Steemit, a better place?

Hello world, I recently found something called Bitcoin and was fascinated. I wanted to know as much as i could which led me to the Blockchain, a story in the making. There seems to be endless applications for the Blockchain and it will undoubtedly change global economics, politics and culture in the future effecting every citizen of the world. At this moment the story is only just starting to be written, which means there is no certainty it will have a happy ending.
I see Blockchain as the peoples greatest weapon to fight against corruption and to make the world more decentralized and transparent when it comes to economics, politics, and culture. I fear this power may be corrupted and abused by the very people it is supposed to bring down as the top 0.1% aren't going to give up without a fight. Evidence of the Blockchains abuse and manipulation exists already in the cryptocurrency markets, where more and more hedge funds are taking an interest. Unfortunately i can't just blame the 0.1% as the more i researched the more i found profit driven people rather than people who invested because they believed in the technologies potential to benefit the world.
This brings me to Steemit, a better place? I believe an unfiltered, unbiased platform like Steemit could create a community which could help the technology to be used for the right reasons by making the world aware of it's potential to do good. Youtube have chosen to be biased and unfair to users like alternative media sites by demonetization of their content. Steemit can change this and give everyone an equal chance to be heard, by not manipulating and filtering what people see. It also gives people like myself an easy platform to voice concerns without having any experience creating content previously. As you will clearly be able to see i'm not a writer of any sorts, just someone who wants and believes the Blockchain can make the world a better place.
