VANITY

Who makes merry in the face of fury?
Who dances to the tune of death?
He who fights believing he’d never fall
He who lusts thinking he won’t get lost
History is filled with such romantic tragedies
Of princes, who slaughtered the world for their brides
Of men, who betrayed the course of reason for riches
Life would have been more peaceful
If men had not lain with goddess of riches
She is the mother of all wars and betrayals
The murderer of nobility and trust
On her bosom, many kings have risen and fallen
Her bosom harbors the treasures of many nations
And she is the first love of every king
As tempting as gold, she is an epitome of beauty
Her tempest has consumed many brave hearts
The more one looks, the more one’s grave grooms
“All is fair in love and war”, she professes
Like a capsized ship falling off the cliff,
Her advice had led many into the pit
Our generation is been carried away by her deceits
And we have turned our deaf ears to wisdom
What is love without principles?
How good is war without a course?
How fair is a war that consumes the innocent?
What is beautiful in the love that stains ones reputation?
We have forgotten that whatever goes around, comes around
And all life is a bunch of vanity
If we reminded ourselves of this truth,
We would; act a little kinder,
Love a little deeper,
Help the downtrodden
Seek for the divine
And live without war
Preferring wisdom to riches would make our lives more meaningful
And our future brighter
