Women & Cryptocurrency - And Why Steemit Is A Game-Changer!

in steemit •  7 years ago

The Crypto world is an awesome place, without a doubt.
I feel like people in the cryptocurrency scene are mostly open-minded, bright, futuristic risk-takers, with a desire for MORE.

But why is it that the crypto scene is still mostly dominated by men?

Whenever someone meets a woman that is into crypto, you always get the same kind of response:

"Oh, you know about crypto? Really?"

Although the surprised look on their faces may be flattering, it's still strange to think how much of a difference it makes if a man or a woman talks about technology.

The problem is that women still have to cope with stereotypes - being objectified and judged for our looks is still a regular occurrence.

And even WHEN you start talking about crypto, I feel like you just don't get taken seriously.
It's easy to underestimate someone's knowledge because you just assume they won't have anything valuable to say.

I get it: in the end, crypto is all based on technology, and you need some technical understanding (and interest in it) in order to gain some knowledge about crypto.

But honestly - even without understanding every detail of the technological concepts, I personally have developed a huge interest in the crypto scene!
With all these new ICO's, new ideas, new innovations and constant price fluctuations, it just never gets boring! How could you not be interested in that?
When @sirwinchester first introduced me to Bitcoin in 2012, I thought the concept itself had a lot of potential - but I didn't really get into it. (And little did I know that Bitcoin would decuple in value soon...)

It wasn't until a few years later when I slowly started to develop my own interest in the crypto world, because I realized the huge potential of not only digital currencies, but also Blockchain Technology itself.

That's why you can expect some crypto-related content on my blog, as well as personal or more "girly" topics.

Like I mentioned above, many women don't even give crypto a change because they don't understand the technical background behind it.

... And that's where Steemit comes in!

Steemit is the first cryptocurrency-based platform that doesn't require any technological knowledge.
This is such a huge benefit, and one of the reasons why platforms like Steemit have the potential to finally bring cryptocurrency to the masses.
To use Steemit, you need barely any crypto knowledge - you only need to know how to blog, and maybe how to convert your steem earnings back to fiat currency. But that's it!

And that's also why Steemit has become the gateway to cryptocurrency not only for many women, but also many people outside of the crypto scene.

Steemit introduces people to cryptocurrency in the most simple way, and gives everyone the equal chance to blog about whatever they like - Steem On!

You don't mean you are a lady with this much knowledge regarding the crypto industry :)

I honestly admire your type of girl and it makes me think i could actually still find the kind of woman i want to marry (a woman that is into cryptocurrency and has no fear of blockchain techie)

But seriously assumption is one of the biggest problems of human being, we assume things faster than we think and research them.

We assume female would find it difficult to understand crypto and even assume few females can decode the knowledge of blockchain.

But in our world there are women that knows more than many men about crypto, blockchain and other sophisticated technologies and one of such women i found is you @agent

I will be following you henceforth to gain more knowledge and insight from your wealth of wisdom.

Wow thank you so much for your kind words, I appreciate it!
Yes you're right, stereotypes and "assuming" something before actually knowing the truth is a big mistake.
Thanks again for your comment and for your support, I'll definitely write a few more blogposts about crypto-related topics in the future!

Great article! Glad you´re back on Steemit. I just recently saw an arcticle about a Google developer who disrespected women in saying that women are biologically less suitable for success in the tech industry, and he has been fired by the Internet company. So crazy... Can´t wait for your next posts !

Thank you 😘
And yes that's absolutely ridiculous, especially at Google which is such a modern and open-minded company!

I feel it's almost easier to be ignorant in our current age. Facebook force feeds you info you agree with and a supporting argument is just a biased Google search away!

WTF??? That is a bizarre thing to say in the 21st century! Glad he got sacked :-#

Yeah right! I was shocked too when I read it in the news

I wrote a post yesterday about the effect steem would have on my community and the cryptocurrecy industry. I am awed to see that someone sees steem exactly the way i see it. I feel a lot of people are going to miss this cryptocurrency boom because of povery or apathy or fear. But steemit just solves the problem. Thank you so much for sharing. I look forward to reading more of your post. It dont maks any differencs if u r a lady. Actually there is this lady I invited to steemit that is currently doing better than me. It gives me a sense of fulfilment u know.

You can check out the post i talked about here

Thank you once again for sharing

upvoted your post :)
And you're right, many people don't even get into crypto because they're afraid or confused, but they're missing a great chance!
Thanks for your comment!

Thank you

I can relate entirely to this! As a female myself I definitely feel stereotyped, although I'm aware its not intentional, when it comes to crypto currencies.
Hopefully more women in the future will see the potential of crypto currencies and join the platforms.

Exactly! And I feel like Steemit is a great opportunity to change that stereotype and get more women into crypto!

It really does not matter to me if it is a man or a woman who is talking about something I am interested in. Since I am really new with crypto i will take any information I can get. it does not matter to me where it comes from.

That's exactly the right mindset that one should have.
Thanks for your comment!

Agent, more power and info to women of crypto. I am blessed with 5 daughters and wondering which of my girls will nibble first. Upvoted resteemed and followed

Thank you very much for the support!
You're blessed with 5 girls, I'm sure it can be a lot of work at times but you also have to be very proud!

Agent, yes I am proud of them. for now they are doing well. All went to college and have not come back home. As they make their way in the world, I think Steemit and blockchain are Hugh opportunities for building a life of abundance. But typically, if I suggest they try they do the opposite. Keeping my fingers crossed for the first to join and try this space. Then the others will follow...

Great post! Thanks for representing.

tip! 5 hide

Thank you very much for the tip - totally unexpected! Thanks, appreciate it!

I'm assuming you get surprised reactions from people outside of crypto? I get the impression that the cryptocommunity seems to have its fair smattering of female enthusiasts.

Plus we have more women that are becoming more prominent spokespeople for crypto.

However you're right, Steemit is the perfect gateway drug for crypto, because people with zero knowledge can be set up with a wallet (Steemit account) in minutes.

Steem on sister! :-)

Cryptogee

Gateway drug.. I like that! 😬
Thanks for your comment and also thank you again for your help. Much appreciated!

Welcome back! :) Great topic choice. I think with all these "technical" sort of sectors it's first male dominated, and later more women will join. I agree Steemit is great for getting more women to join AND females like both of us are helping to make that change / shift happen.

Thank you 😬
Yes the shift towards towards a more gender-balanced crypto world is happening right now, and we are a part of it!

Great post . I think that the crypto scene is mostly dominated by men so far just because most of women around the world don't aware enough about that technology yet , and i believe that once they will know about it they will get in to it fast . I believe women are more Adventurers than men 😀 I personally like the crypto world and looking forward to see where it will be within next few years :)

Yes you're right! I think the shift is happening right now and once more women even KNOW about crypto, they'll get into it!

Hey! Nice to see you blogging again, welcome back! :)

I'm glad you still remember me 😬 Thank you for your vote!

Do not underestimate women are even more organized than we are.

I truly believe technologies like theses are evening the playing fields and its amazing. Thanks for sharing your experiences :)

finally, some light on the topic!!
