An examination of what it is to be “woke”

One of the newest buzzwords that has been circulation on team left in the past couple years, as I’m sure you have heard, is “woke.” But what does that word mean? According to the Urban Dictionary, there are a few different examples of the word, the main definition being-

Although an incorrect tense of awake, a reference to how people should be aware in current affairs.

That definition from the Urban dictionary needs some serious reexamination. It states that being “woke” is “reference to how people should be aware in current affairs.” That means there is a certain way that you should look at the world as dictated by someone else. Certainly being “woke” is void of independent thought because a woke persons’ views is projected by another entity, which the definition makes clear when it says how “people should be aware in current affairs.” Who is anybody to tell you how you should think?

The definition of “woke” is vague, therefore, malleable. Anyone with the self-imposed racial moral high ground is the arbiter of its definition.

There is certainly a racial element to the word “woke.” I refer to the Urban Dictionary because of the word’s ebonical implementation. Here are some examples of “woke” used in a sentence according to the Urban Dictionary.

Ali is so woke. At brunch she explained how wearing anything other than Chuck Taylor's or Tom's is really a microaggression. Hey did you get your Amy Schumer tickets yet?

According to the media and academia, microaggressions are a form of racism implemented only by white people. When accused of a microaggression, that means you’re a racist. According to that sentence, anyone who is not woke is a white racist because you’re wearing Chuck Taylor’s- that’s a microaggression. The sentence is also an example of how the perceived intellectual authority (Ali) has fabricated the definition for the word “woke.” And in Ali’s case, it was to look cool and smart.

Person 1: Stop bringing racism into everything
Person 2 : Your clearly not woke

This example sums up a lot, especially because of the grammatical error purported by the racial sage, that is, Person 2. Person 1 clearly doesn't care about what a person’s race is but Person 2 sure does and wants to make it clear that race is the only thing there is that defines a human being.

I understand the extra burden it puts on you but I still feel everyone needs to get woke.

In this example, we see the push for indoctrinating everyone to be “woke.” It shows conformity of thought. Free expression be damned.

To give the Urban Dictionary some credit on the issue of what it is to be “woke,” they took a quote from controversial truth teller Paul Joseph Watson who often calls out the dumbing down and crazyness of modern culture. The Urban Dictionary took one of Watson’s sentences for an example of the word “woke”-

Being completely deranged, hysterical and seeing racism/oppression in virtually everything.

How accurate is that? Describing “woke” as “deranged” is very fitting, especially that one can make up the definition on the spot as they see fit.

A modern tyrant depends on a collectivized society. In order to do that, the tyrant must do what he can to get the people to think the same and to think the same, a new twist on language (newspeak) must take place. “Woke” is newspeak.

A classic way to get everyone to think the same is to demonize anyone who doesn’t think the same, and in the case of being “woke,” anyone who isn’t, is a racist, and you don’t want to be a racist.
