4. VIDEO TUTORIAL : What is Reputation Score on Steemit? What is mine?

in steemit •  7 years ago

Welcome to my MINI VIDEO SERIES exclusively for Steemit.

This video is about reputation score on Steemit and what does it mean. I will tell you how to increase your reputation score and show you examples of bad profiles and good profiles. This applies more to people who are beginners and its a great video to show to your friends/ partners / family who will be joining steemit.

I would appreciate any feedback on this tutorial. I appreciate its very basic, but I have put a lot of effort into creating this.  This is a second episode, more episodes will come :)

Great work girl.

thank you!!

I have a reputation score of 7, my rep score didnt go down from the fact that I was trying to scam the steemit community or I was plagiarizing, it was because people with much higher steem power didnt like the content that I spoke about and began flagging my post "without" writing or informing me of their flagging. Given that I received no notifications of this activity I didnt realize what was happening until my reputation score was down to a 5...practically in the toilet bowl. Furthermore, given that there was no way to protect myself I had to basically accept this situation as some sort of internet chastisement though I was only on the platform for a week and the same group of people continued to flag my content without ever once attempting to write me and inform me of the unwritten rules when using this platform. Generally I understand what you're saying, but just because someone has a reputation of under 25 doesnt have to mean that they're suspect or cant be taken seriously, just like if someone who has a high rep score it doesnt mean that it's correct to hammer down smaller pages knowing that there's no level of defense to that. I've been on this site for about 2 weeks and overall it's been a blast, but I also came across my fair share of people monitoring my page and flagging without reaching out whatsoever in order to school me on what I may have been incorrectly doing. It's great to monitor the community, it's not cool to destroy people's opportunity at establishing a page or silently hammering someone's page without writing a post on why you're doing it, what Im doing wrong and how I can prevent this situation in the future. That can be viewed by the new/little people as cyberbullying. Great work. Hopefully you understand what im saying and can see that not all low reputation scores means a non-worthy page. Maybe I just didnt know the unwritten rules. Great videos overall! I am here to learn how to make my page grow and to avoid the obstacles that Im beginning to see as I become more experienced with the platform.

Very good job🖒

Thanks for your efforts. It's very useful to me :)

"Scam the platform? but I have a grandma that made 60 grand in one night!!"

hahaha.. Great explanation of the reputation system. You hit it right in the nail with the purpose of rep and how it works.

I'd like to recommend to the newbies another nifty tool.

http://steem.cool/

Which shows your reputation in detail as well as showing it in action. So as to make it easier for people to picture how the system works.

Looking forward to more videos!

thank you!! glad you liked it!! heheh i will check this one out!!

I am new to steemit and i found your videos very informational thank you!

Really glad to hear that !!!

Hey Alla... Thank you very much for your steemit videos. They are very helpful for us, the ones who are just starting in this platform. Great work ☺

yes they are :)) welcome!!

so glad they are helpful :))) you are welcome!

Thanks for making this very useful video on the Reputation score Alla. For the longest time, I tried to understand the methodology behind advancing in reputation score since it wasn't very well defined in the Steemit whitepaper, which reads like the Constitution lol.

However with continued active participation and engagement with my fellow Steemians on the comments sections of posts as well as continued creation of my own blog posts, I eventually discovered that eureka! you rise faster in reputation the more upvotes you receive from those ranked higher than you in reputation! I'm glad to see that you explain this point very succinctly in your video and I agree completely that it is always important to participate on the platform with good, high-quality comments. Plus steemwhales.com is an awesome site that I continue to check regularly!

In all, an awesome fourth video to your Steemit video series and you are absolutely smashing it right now. Keep making us all proud Stoody! :)

you are welcome ;))) yeah its not hard but i hope it is more clear now!! :)) your reputation is quite good given you only been here a while :)) well done!!!

Thank you for your very kind words - it certainly means a lot to me coming from a hard-working blogger and Steemian like yourself. Yup, I've been working hard every day to create content that everyone can appreciate and benefit from as I approach my one-month anniversary on Steemit wooo! It's great being inspired by your fantastic work on this platform so let's keep it going! STEEM ON!

you have done very well in one months, you should be proud of yourself!!

Thanks Alla! I'm working on my latest post and you're making me blush ;))

Alla - Thanks. As a minnow just 6 days young, your video helps me to understand the Steemit reputation system. I have been already trying to leave meaninful comments as you have pointed out. I have also tried to involve in the Steemit community by participating in contests and even hosting a small contest of my own for minnows and wildlife cause benefit. I am also posting original content of my pictures with a though chain inspired by my picture. Thanks for your guidance.

ay I make a request - When you have time, please do take a look at my blog where I tried my hand at writing - a chain of thoughts on solitude - inspired by my wildlife picture instead of just putting the picture. Thanks

Thank you !

These series are very helpful. Steemit is not really easy to understand for newbies and we could think of making this series (and other good introductory posts) stickies somehow.

yeah thats why i wanted to create these series to help! :)

Thank you for sharing this video with us! I'm also new here, so any kind of guidance is more than welcome! :) I will followed you for more.. glad to connect @lavitaebella

no worries :) there is loads more to learn, i post new tutorial every day!

So great to hear that! I'm not sure so I will just shoot (maybe you can answer)- how is it with upoviting? If I upovote some posts that amount goes from my wallet? How many upovotes can I give per day?....Thanks a lot for your kind support :)

no it doesnt go from your wallet!! its just your power goes down, but it goes up again the next day!

I was wondering about from where it goes..really new in this and grateful for your answer 🙏🙏🙏

no worries will also do a video on that!! every day new video and hopefully i will cover everything for the newbies :))

Much appreciated! Thanks a lot! :) Have a nice day :)

Do you have any idea why reputation is stuck for months on 67.4 and doesn't move on.

I got damaged by some downvotes in the name of some stupid whale experiment by smooth and abit while most top members were not active. I held through but got flagged for their fun.
I don't understand why I am stuck since then

Reputation has moved very very slowly since the whale vote experiment started. We may see it move faster again now that it is ended.

yeah i wouldnt know, sorry to hear that happened to you!

Happened also to me . What a joke !

Good to know because those guys really damaged mine

That's unlikely. Your reputation can generally only be damaged with net negative posts.

I don't understand but I don't move further up since weeks. Can you explain?

I don't know why you didn't move, if that's the case. However I can say that with that experiment, the net reward shares being applied was dramatically less than before the experiment. Because reputation is based on how many shares are being applied to your account, it moves more slowly if there are less (after negative shares are counted against positive).

Thanks for this info. I will read a bit more about this topic today

Great to hear that you are 'only' at 67 but still want to reach 70. That's the spirit.

Keep up the good work.

Never stop dreaming to reach the top because the view is just a bit better to help others as well. 😇

Thank you

welcome!

I'm on platform for a week I think, but still can't find my way out. It can be just me, maybe I still don't get what is interesting, who knows. It can be a bit frustrating to make content, spend some time and effort and then feel invisible. We'll see...

yeah for sure, you can also earn money by just leaving amazing comments and voting others, as you get curation rewards!

Look forward to your videos. Always informative.

thanks so much :)

Love your videos, very helpful, I've just started out on Steemit and I'm so excited, Thank you for your videos, Great work :)

She rocks, helped me loads on my first introduction post. Definitely give her a follow if you haven't already!!

aww thanks a lot ;))

heheh glad to help _:)

Thanks for these videos. You have a way of explaining the complicated (to me a beginner) so that it's understandable.

yeah i want to make sure its clear :)

So I have a question. Lets say I was reviewing a beer and I wanted to go into how well it paired with a certain food and I used a recipe of a user on steemit for the food. Should I just not include the recipe on my post or would it be better to promote their channel and say where you got the recipe from and resteem their post or should I just say their channel name and not resteem? I hope I am making sense to you lol.

Ok so you would make a post bout tasting beer, you could include a recipe of that beer and link it to original source. But the post still has to be original, like why did you like this beer, whats special about it, pictures ect do you get me?

Yes I get you and it would be a original post. I was thinking more along the lines of like if i homebrewed a beer, my recipe and i thought drinking my beer with a cake you tought me how to make on your channel would pair really well with the beer I made how would i tell people that i got it from your channel. I would not post the cake recipe on my blog but I would want to tell people i made it from your recipe. You know what i mean?

ohh yeah of course you can do that! hahah that just recreating recipes!! look forward to seeing that cake ;)

Lol well i'm not going to post for a couple weeks after my vacation. Thank you so much for the help

Keep up the good work

Wow! What an awesome series of videos. Thank you so much for the information @allasyummyfood

you are welcome :)) new ones coming every day :)

@allasyummyfood, love this post. Should have found it when I got started. Figured out most of the things myself. Really looking forward to the day when signup is realtime. Thats when promotion really makes sense. Thanks for the videos, keep them coming!

Thanks for this, I joined up when I saw your youtube video. I like how you can integrate your youtube channel videos into this so it creates a space to gain more interaction.
We shall see where my journey goes, but thank you for the recommendation.
Colin

aww you are welcome :) yes for sure!

Thanks for making Steemit more public :)

Just what I needed to know! Nice and clear video too. Thank you

so glad to hear that! :))

Wow Steem whales, I had no idea. Thank you :)

Great videos, thanks a lot. I need lots of help.

helps a lot specially for those beginners like me thank you @allasyummyfood

Alla, I'm still hanging in there.......planning for the long haul! LOL! I still feel I have so much to learn. I am overwhelmed. I appreciate all your knowledge and I recognize all your hard work. Tess :)

These were so helpful for me today. I posted my first post in over six months thanks to this! Upvoted and resteemed Thanks again!

That is the second very useful video I have watched, great stuff.

Thanks for the video, @allasyummyfood
But does it mean to comment more on this platform rather than creating your own blogs? I am actually confused, can't figure out the balance between posting a blog and leaving a comment. Could you please guide me regarding this? How many bogs should I post daily and the number of comments to be posted?
I watched all of your videos and appreciate your efforts, do you have any plans to make videos on Steemit Dollar, Steemit Power, Savings, APR, difference between Steemit and Steemit Dollar and how to convert all these into Bitcoins and then finally cashing them? Or any guide you recommend for beginners.
Sorry, I asked too many questions but yes, I am curious to know about all these topics in order to fully understand the functionality of this platform.

Keep up the good work, lady!

One more question, how do I increase the number of views on my blog?
I tried to be different but it's been 3 days the number of views aren't increasing.
And BTW, I joined Steemit 4 days ago so may be I should be patient too :)

Sorry for asking too many questions but you seem to be the only one who can guide me in this right direction.

yes I'm planning to make videos on all of those and i have been working and recording those! in terms of finding a balance, there are few path ways. Either you create - and post you original content and you work your way up and earn money or you comment and participate in the platform and become a social commentator and make money from that! There are a lot of poeple who are not creators, but you can attract new ppl to steemit and support those who do! I hope that helps! Yes if you joined few days ago, all you need to do now is go and say hi to loads of people and build your reputation. no point in posting anything as you dont have the following and people dont know who you are! good luck! and next time dont send accusations like i dont care - because that will not get you far on steemit. I am very busy and i do get loads of comments so be patient!

Thanks and I will make sure not to bother you in the future.

wow thank you very helpfull!
Question? What if you want to post a song from you tube because you like it, or if you want to drop a video from another person, because it is interesting, or if you want to recommend a book because it is a helpful book, is it considered a plagiarism?

Good to know about reputation score.

Thank you for your help and support
Your getting paid well for your work

I am a beginner here and I find your post very education. I think that it will be helpful to other beginners like me. This has to be resteemed.

Thanks for sharing your awesome tutorial!

Great just great. ^voted and resteemed. Really thank you, was very helpful.

Thank you, I am new and didn't know what that number was and how to raise my reputation, usually I just tell some jokes and buy a few drinks to help with my rep, lol. Much appreciated.

I just found your work and I think it's great, it's very good to see it, especially the practical way in which you teach and bring knowledge, thank you for existing, I follow you!
