It might be a stupid question, but is there any reason why that a newbie would get fewer votes than a more established member?

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

  • Disagreement on rewards
  • Fraud or plagiarism
  • Hate speech or trolling
  • Miscategorized content or spam

    You need to get followers that care about you subjects. Newbies don't have that and don't have much steem
