[STEEM.LY] UPDATE v0.2.0 - Change Log - Added HTTPS & custom keywords

in steemit •  8 years ago

Hello everyone,

Less than 15h after we launched the first beta, upgrades have been added on steem.ly the Steemit Dedicated link shortening service. Some based on the user suggestions received, and they are already available for everyone's use:

v 0.2.0 Change Log:

  • Added HTTPS with: https://letsencrypt.org/. Certificate has been installed and enabled and all traffic is now forced through https. Backwards compatibility measures have been enabled so all previous links should be working fine, no need to worry. Thank you @ausbitbank for the suggestion!
  • Added ability to create custom links by adding your own keywork. Let your imagination loose and create your steem.ly/whateverYouWant simply by adding whateverYouWant in the indicated box.

Looking forward to your feedback and new suggestions.
Thank you @dantheman for your support on the service launch post yesterday!

Happy link shortening everyone!

Ps. I have placed the tool on SteemTools ... so we keep a handy overview of apps & tools & services for the community.

Cool. Thank you Roeland! (and for the upvote :) )
We're working on a Chrome Extension right now to make it even easier to use the link shortener. Should be ready next week!

Thanks again!

One thing that I also wanted to mention is a point I raised in this post: https://steem.ly/I
We need to find a way of clearing as safe the overwhelming amount of apps that are being created.

This is awesome, thank you @anduweb

Thanks man!

Thank you for this cool Steem branded service. :) Take look at https://steem.ly/t

:) yeah, I know the chat! You could have customized that to be /chat. Let me know if you want that as I can do it from the back end.

anduweb, I have a problem, I tried with this post I just made, but it gives an empty result: https://steemit.com/steemit/@wisehammer/5-reasons-why-steemit-is-going-to-surpass-reddit if I try with something shorter it works.

Hey @wisehammer, the shorting was successfully done when you did it the first time. It's: https://steem.ly/v

The application is setup to not create different shortlinks for the same long links, thus keeping them unique over time. What is not happening though is telling you that when you tried the same link again. Now it's blank but I've added this to the bugs list and should get fixed soon. Thanks for spotting it!

Awesome sauce! =)

Got another suggestion for you that I also suggested to the other link shortening service, dont wanna give anyone an advantage .. Add a custom subdomain so people can verify where the link will end up, ie: check.steem.ly/shorturl , simply display the final url with maybe some stats but the user has to manually click it..

I also added steemly to my post of new services and steem domains , do you have any other projects in the works you wanna add ? https://steem.ly/steemdomainhoardersanonymous
