If you are a NEW Steemit.com user (< 1-4 months on the platform) I'd like to hear about your experience? Don't hold back, tell us all the pros and cons about the platform!

BONUS REWARD - I will pay out all of the SBD earned on this post to the author who's comment receives the most upvotes

Here are a few questions to get you going...

  • Is it easy or difficult to use? How does it compare to other such sites (BitcoinTalk, Reddit, etc)?

  • What do you think about the interface? Is it intuitive?

  • Have you been able to make your first $10?

  • What do you like the most/least about the platform?

  • What would you improve? Where does Steemit.com come up short?

  • What works really well? Where does Steemit.com excel?

  • What ideas do you have to grow the community?

I want to start a dialogue with new users about their experience. This is how we build a better product and a better, more engaged community!

Disclaimer: I am NOT part of the Steem or Steemit.com team. I am just an avid user and someone who wants to see this platform take off and be used by a BILLION users!

Oh yeah...let's start using the #FEEDBACK tag on our posts and get it trending. Is this community run or not? ;)

Okay, where do I start. To be honest, the interface when you're trying to post something is not that user-friendly, what with all the HTML and Markdown formatting. If you just type and post, all you end up with are a wall of text. Don't know if this is workable or not, but it would really help if the Steemit draft page has those Formatting buttons like in word editor, you know, Center, Insert Pictures, etc

Second, I'm not a hypocrite, I join Steemit partly to make money. But it's not easy. Oh, there's the FAQs and other articles, but in practice? I haven't even been able to make my first $1, let alone $10. Not Steemit fault, of course. But it's not made clear in the beginning. I thought you just write some quality article and wait for the votes rolling in. Then you realize that the article that you wrote with blood, sweat and tears got 0 votes after 2 days while a steemian who posted a knock-knock jokes got 90 votes and $40 in 30 minutes.

And third, almost all of the comments now are populated by who I like to call "'votes' and 'resteem' beggars". You know the time, instead of commenting or giving insight about the article in question, they simply write "Upvoted! Please follow and upvote me back! And while you're at it, can you give me money and rub my feet?". With Steemit being the way it is now, there's no way to stop these guys, but how I wish we could kickban those users whose comment doesn't at least reference something in the original article.

I think I'm gonna stop now. You'd realize by now that once I start, I have difficulty of slowing down. That's the curse of an amateur writer, I guess. We can continue with point 4, 5, and 6 if you like but I had a feeling this is already too much for now.

#FEEDBACK

awesome feedback, thank you. Agreed that the markdown editor is a huge speedbump for new users to understand. Especially when they are used to more wysiwyg editors.

I came to use steemit because my friend recommended I started using steemit on September 25, 2017. I think steemit is not as difficult to use as it is to use Facebook. Just make a post for people interested in it and change it. It's up vote. My first post made $ 7, because I got support from @curie, and my Thai friends got upvote from @curie. I like it a lot because it makes me money and makes me meet new friends too. But once I was by @cheetah I was shocked and very anxious. I want to improve steemit. Because sometimes I use it and then my post disappears. Now there are more and more people using steemit. And everyone was wrong like me. I will not go to sleep. What I want it to happen in steemit most is having a language that belongs to each country group. Will make people who are not good at English. Works better. No errors. My personal, I want to make steemit available in Thai.

#FEEDBACK

I'm currently living in Chiang Mai! I've been using the #Thailand tag on some of my posts. Did you see this one? https://steemit.com/travel/@ashe-oro/thailand-lantern-festival-2017-yee-peng-and-loy-krathong-chiang-mai

I see that post. It is a tradition of floating lanterns Yee Peng , and it seems to be done with the Loy Krathong tradition. Your post is very good, I understand the Thai culture well. Good job. 🎇🎆🎉

what goes around, comes around :)

Steemit has been a great platform to socialize with new people, learn from inspiring super awesome post from great bloggers, then the great distinguishing aspect is that you get paid for blogging here.
I have actually improved my writing skills from steemit plus I have earned as well.
I remembered joining steemit this year, My first 10 post yielded less than $1 but I never gave up.
I kept pushing until I earned my first $21 ($7, $5, 9) from 3 posts.
I felt like I won a jackpot.

congrats on making your first $21! That's great.

I'm just curious what are you going to do with all this feedback. I plan to post an extensive reply. But so far just curious what kind of leverage do you have or plan to have to change anything?

I've interviewed @ned on my podcast and plan to send this to the team. http://libertyentrepreneurs.com/2016/08/le48-steemit-com-future-social-media-w-ceo-ned-scott/

I'd LOVE to be more involved. I'd LOVE to share a lot of feedback and quality assurance work and user interface streamlining and and even managing a small team that can redesign, redevelop and improve a lot of things for the front end. IF(!) anybody would care to listen and would be willing to follow up with changes.

I think i can bring a lot of value from years of experience, user's usability research and a lot more that i could bring to the table.

I am not even bringing up compensation! If i am paid for it - it is awesome and it is some motivation. If I am not paid, i could still contribute a lot IF that help was in demand.

But what I am not going to do - to waste my time if nobody is interested to do anything with what I can bring to the table. No time to just yapping into deaf ears. For just yapping maybe i'll do some... blogging on Steemit. lol.

Private message me and let's chat....oh wait. Would love to clone Steem, raise some $ and really build out an amazing g experience. Been thinking abt this since they launched.

How to private message you? LOL. How ironic this question in the context of the above. Anyway, you know how to private message me.

Actually i might also add a link to my Discord to my profile. I registered with it for the only purpose to be able to communicate with some Steemians :-) This messenger seems the most popular among them. (Them? Us? Hmm.. an interesting thought about self-identification).

As for cloning Steem... Why cloning? I would redesign it from scratch with different rules. I might even connect it to other crypto currencies and blockchains. Maybe even more than one!

As for blogging society i am torn apart in my thoughts between the best approach. I know that extreme approaches do not work. But i still cannot find the perfect balance between capitalism, socualism, democracy, dictatorship, maybe even spice it up with elements of communism lol. Ok, jokes aside it is a very serious question actually, the fundamental for the platform.

As for funding... I just invested in 2 large projects. Well, very large on my litle scale. Although it would be enough to redo Steemit from scratch without any third party fundraising. If either one takes off (for real) i might be able to fund the development myself. A bigger question is - do i really want to get into it? How risk analysts looks... What kind of ROI can it bring? Are the benefits worth the risk, hassle and expenses? Would this project be any better than others that i had in mind? I am not the best mind for social platforms. Well, maybe that could actually be an advantage to build something from scratch with a clear fresh mind?

Too many questions, too little answers so far. You caught me off-guard with your idea to juts make it properly. For a moment i even thought "why not"?

Anyway, mental exercises are great. But I am not jumping into anything without proper research and analysis.

Maybe we can talk more in private.

Good luck anyway, regardless where it leads us :-)

p.s. i have some ideas for other blockchain technologies where I think it is worth more to invest than in a social blogging platform...

Congrats to @bix for winning $20.82 for the top comment!

A simple answer from a simple person.

  1. Not here to make money although its an interesting concept to investigate later.

  2. Its a very clean straightforward experience for someone who likes to read stuff

  3. I worry that the financial rewards will lead the users content creation removing some of the community aspect.

  4. It's excellent that people are delving into decentralised applications and blockchain technology because this is without doubt the future but again I say unto thee, embrace the technology as a way to freely share and interact in a libertarian fashion and not as a capitalist exercise in making cash.

  5. Please keep it simple because simplicity will bring new users and expand the potential user base.

Thank you :-)

PS I hate Reddit with a passion, its a bloated ugly confusing mess. Theres lots of great info there amongst the dross but finding it is a nightmare.

great reply :) One thing is for sure, Steemit.com is a working blockchain product with a real community behind it, which is still very rare.

Honestly someone needs to build a better frontend for the Steem blockchain. The only problem is that there's no incentive really to do so.

I completely agree. How do you think it could create revenue? I'm very interested.

busy.org gets donations, but it's not much better than steemit.com. i dont know how it could create revenue. Ads or paying for membership, much like the current traditional model. I think things will stagnate a bit until SMTs come out, and then we might see some good web or mobile apps that are built for the owner's new SMT.

But yeah it's really a problem that there is essentially no incentive to make a really good steem frontend platform right now.

And I wouldn't want ads on the site. Can't "feel like home" if there's always someone selling you something. Also, wouldn't put up any ICO garbage (like CMC does).
