Georgian authorities from April 1 introduced a complete ban on the use, production and import of plastic bags. On Monday, the press service of the Ministry of environment and agriculture of Georgia informed the TASS correspondent.
"From today, the sale of plastic bags, as well as their local production and import are prohibited," — said the employee of the press service.
According to the Agency, initially in case of detection of the facts of sale, production or import of plastic bags, law enforcement officers will make a warning, and in case of a repeat offense - to fine 500 gel (more than $185). If a person continues to sell, manufacture or import packages again after the fine is issued, the monetary penalty will be increased to the widow and will amount to gel 1000 (more than $ 371).
In return, the authorities of the country offer residents to switch to biodegradable bags, which disintegrate faster than polyethylene and cause less damage to the environment.
Georgian authorities began to fight with plastic bags in November 2018. Then under the ban were packages with a thickness of less than 15 microns.
