Automatically Upvote Comments
Other people may be suffering this same problem.
1.) You make a comment.
2.) You forget to upvote it
3.) The comment gets commented on
4.) You can no longer find the comment, because the post feed only shows so many recent posts (This feature drives me crazy as one who loves to comment and go back and look at comments and replies to see the conversations started)
5.) The commented comment receives a large amount of money from replying to your comment.
6.) The post ends and you forgot to upvote your own post
7.) You curse the fact that somehow you forgot to upvote your own engaging comment
Repeat steps 1-7
While this is an exaggeration, it would be nice if this feature existed. Some people only want to make meaningful comments. Or you could have to upvote your own post and this would cause your voting power to decrease so you would see less worthless comments. Some people always upvote comments and some rarely ever do, so I guess I'd like to see what people think in the comments below.
Should we be up voting our own comments like happens with submissions? I'd like to know the Steemit etiquette on this. I never upvote my comments. Seems wrong.

Yes because we receive some of the rewards for subcomments. I am going to write a post and questions to hopefully enlighten everyone if it gets enough attention and gets answered

I thought I read somewhere on steemithelp that you're not supposed to vote for yourself and that you don't want to use more then 20 votes a day.

Ok, so upvoting is for... visibility?
I don't get get it.
I shame people for liking their comments on fb, but somehow on steemit it's a basic necessity?
To me this seems extremely fishy... like the system is fundamentally fucked up. WHY WOULD YOU MAKE IT A BASIC NECESSITY TO HAVE TO UPVOTE YOUR STUFF?!
That's for OTHER PEOPLE to do!!!

Upvoting moves your comment higher and also uses some of your voting power (I believe or else people would always upvote) You can get curation rewards on your upvoted comments too (if that is still the case as I am almost positive it is). The reputation score you have without any votes yet in comments will put you on top of those with lower reputation without comments. My upvote generates about $.01 and that means if I upvote my comment, it will be on top of other users with $.01 that have a lower reputation too. Hopefully that makes sense, but feel free to ask for more clarity if it did not.

I sometimes do but it feels like cheating. Just like some desperate guys in Facebook which are in need for social acceptance.

This is interesting. I found this post while searching for how to stop auto-upvoting your own posts because, apparently they have added that feature since this was written a year ago ;) I also wrote a brief post recently about whether or not whales upvote their own stuff--I see it as being a visibility thing like someone else mentioned--and also a "confidence" thing. It's almost like, if you aren't willing to "invest" in yourself, then why would anyone else want to?! That kind of thing. Then again, I am quite new to the forum--about a month, so... we'll see :)
