One of the main topics of discussion is the the recent registration bottleneck. Basically from what I understand it costs someone money, steemit.com in fact, as someone needs to physically pay for new user accounts.
Below is a snippet from Proposing Hardfork 0.20.0 “Velocity” thats explains what I am getting at....
Discounted Account Creation
One of the key areas limiting growth of Steem is the cost of creating accounts. We want to grow Steem to at least to size of Reddit, hopefully larger. Reddit currently has 234 million unique users a month. Let's assume that if they have a 50% retention rate (quite generous), then they would have signed up 468 million accounts. If we wanted to do the same then it would cost 93.6 million STEEM ($187.2 million at the current price) and 13.5 billion Steem Power in delegations. The current STEEM supply is only 250 million STEEM. With the stake that Steemit has, it would take nearly 12 years for us to create those accounts and undelegate Steem Power continuously to reach those numbers. Simply put, it does not scale and if we want to grow to become the disruptive technology that we all know Steem is, we need to remove this barrier.
So, what if a existing steemit user could sponsor a new user SP to verify there account?
For example if I wanted my friend John to join I could just donate the Steem power needed to activate John's account.
My thought was this could be like a feature or option. All you would need to do is send a friend a minimum required donation of STEEM or SBD, inviting him to the platform via email. John would receive a invention email guiding him through the account registration setup. Once John accepts the sponsored SP that would be 'held'? and then could be debited from the beneficiary account. Donated steem or SBD would also first need to be converted to SP before the user can access the account if I am not mistaken. Well something like that I could imagine.
This would allow new accounts to be created using the already available liquid steem within the hands of users. This can work as far as I understand, unless there is something missing which is possible as I am still learning.
I am looking forward to all opinions on this one. It's just an idea I thought might be worth while mentioning.
Thanks for reading much appreciated.
