Comprehensive analysis: What is the best time to post on Steemit?

in steemit •  7 years ago

On Steemit, posts get eaten in a matter of seconds hence the need to strategise so your posts get as much exposure as possible.

When is the best time to post on Steem? This is a million dollar question, but the answer may be worth a few millions more.

In this report we will try to hack the right time to post to Steem. Enjoy.

Actually, the question is; What do you want?

Before you even write or post to Steem, ask yourself this question; "why am I posting this content to Steemit"? Your honest answer should be for one of these;

  • to get upvotes
  • to get followers
  • to contribute

That is it. Whoever you are, we all post to Steemit for one of these three motives; to make money, engage the community or share something important.

Now that you know the motives, decide which one is your primary motivate and that will help make it easier to know how to achieve your goal.

When to publish for upvotes

It is not easy to find the best time to publish on Steemit but we will try.

Time zones to consider

Looking at the globe, we can see 4 main timezone;

  • North and South America
  • Europe and Africa
  • Russia and Middle East
  • China, India and Oceania

All nations in a particular timeline have almost the same time.

The timeline of (North and South America) and the timeframe of (Europe and Africa) is separated by sea leading to a huge time break between them.

Likewise the timeframe of (China, India and Ocean) and that of the (North and South America) is separated by sea also leading to a huge time break between them.

To blog at the "most right" time, you need to know which of these four time regions you are targeting. Of you are targeting America, then you need to post at a time when it is still daytime in America.

The same rule applies to posting to target readers from other time zones.

Timelines to consider

By timelines, we mean the times by which Steemians are mostly active on Steemit. Believe it nor not, most Steeimans are still middle class works and for this reason they only come to Steemit when they are free,

There are only three times that working class Steemians would be free;

  • early in the morning before work
  • in the after after work or during work breaks
  • late at night before bed or while in bed

When to publish for followers

If you are in to post mainly to get followers, then perhaps the best time to post is anything. Once you have something interest, post it.

At any moment there are thousands of Steemians on Steemit and if you want their attention then you must constant put your post before them.

When (and how) to publish to contribute

How do we define contribution, by contribution we mean when you want to contribute a valuable information to the Steemit community with no immediate intention of monetization.

What to contribute

Find your niche, for instance you want to share;

  • breaking news
  • art work
  • story or poetry
  • coding exploits
  • steemfest moments
  • personal moments
  • personal opinions
  • whatever makes your world go round

Build a community

Don't lie to yourself, Steemit is too big an ocean to navigate or command.

If you will succeed on Steemit, then you will need to build your own alliance and friendships. No one will reach out to you expert in your "introduceyourself" post.

After that, it is up to your to build your own community of friends and loyal readers on Steemit. There is no sending of  friend requests on Steemit, you have "catch" friends through comments, discord or Steemit.chat.

Set a posting time

As a contributor, you would have to be very wary of the times you post. You need to let you readers know when you post and get them to check on you.

So as new blogger, you need to let your reader know how many posts you post each day and when your post. This way they know when to check on you and what to expect.

If you happen to be a working class Steemian who uses Steemit for your personal life and moments, then you have to let your readers know when you are free to post on Steemit;

  • early in the morning before work
  • in the afternoon after work
  • or even on weekends

Making your timeline predictable for your followers will let feel they can related to you on a more personal level. Playing anonymous and mystery man on Steemit is fun, but still behind those weird usernames and ridiculous profile image - there is a human face.

Entertain your audience

Steemit is not a bot for posting content and expecting people to read or appreciate it. Steemit is a blog where humans create, consume and appreciate the contents of each other.

If you really want to contribute something to Steemit, look at @heiditravels. She made made her life transparent on Steemit.

That is how you build community and trust. Let people know the personality behind those scary profile pictures and absurd usernames.

Like as @heiditravels blogs about her life travels, let your Steemian friends know of your life's journeys on Steemit. Let your followers know not just who you are but where it is that you are going.

Let them  follow your life progress through out education, marriage and everything else that you share on Facebook!

Remember to also celebrate important moment with the Steemit community. When it is mother's day, Christmas or New Year, share your moments with your Steemit community.

What happens when you post out of time?

You may be wondering if these time markings are necessary at all. Well they are not entirely necessary for some reasons;

  • faithful readers will check their feed to see the posts made by accounts they were following while they were away
  • if you happen to have an upvoting trail behind you, then no matter what time you post, you will get auto-upvotes
  • also if you atleast one friendly whale to rely on to upvote your posts, then you are free to post at anytime

However, if none of these are a possibility in your situation, then perhaps you should advice yourself and consider observing the upvoting timelines.

If you do not have these advantages yet decide to post out of time, then you could end up with post that get little or not views.

Content gets lost on Steemit as fast as they are created, and even if you try to drive in traffic when no one is home - then no one will still get to read or appreciate your work.

I post when I feel it! :)

that sound moody!
lol
feelit - steemit!

Very practical advice. Most times, I post whenever I am free. perhaps I should change my strategy.

I'm still new to Steemit and this is very sound advice. Time to start posting for my North America target audience.

Actually, commenting is better strategy than following some proper time to post

that is also true, @libert. thank you for raising this issue up!

I never worry about up votes to accumulate Steem dollars. I notice I get followers (about 2 a day) in a steady stream. I write to contribute to the community. If I add value everything else will follow. Good post, good topic

I have had a bit of success posting at different times of the day.

yes, I too and that is why I wrote this post

Very helpful thoughts and ideas. As someone who is new to Steemit this has been a great resource for me and will change how and when I post. I realized that I probably have not been posting at the correct times for the east coast in the United States. I was posting right before I went to bed which is around 11 pm and have seen very low activity and money related to these posts. It makes total sense to post at optimal times during the day as the posts get old fast. My strategy now will be to write my blogs at night in word and then actually post them to Steemit at an optimal posting time. Hopefully I willl see better results by following the guidelines in your article!

Good one

@blockrush, You are right On with this post. I have observed that when I post any blog at around 6PM Indian standard time which is like early 9AM or so in USA EST I get my max likes n up votes or response. An hour or two later my post loses it. I have tried different timing and have zeroed on 9-9:30 USA EST as one of the best time to post my blogs. Sometime even when I have finished writing the blog, I wait the whole day for the above time and then post my blog. I have seen that it makes some real difference

genial, si que te excediste! trabajas muy bien, excelente análisis veo mucho trabajo aquí, dejo mi voto

Thanks for this advice, I find this very helpful. I want to contribute and make money doing so.

I had similar thoughts too last week and checked the data from steemsql to see when most people are active and voting. You can check out the results at https://steemit.com/steemit/@dbdecoy/steemit-voting-pattern-analysis-based-on-hour-and-day-of-the-week if you don't mind.
