How Many Times A Day Should You Be Posting on Steemit?

in steemit •  7 years ago

Ahhh yes, this is a common question asked not only by newcomers to the Steemit community, but pondered by several renowned Steemians as well. In fact, @jerrybanfield dedicated a post to this question about a week ago. At the present moment, there seems to be no specific answer to this question – it is simply a matter of both individual preference and convenience.

On one hand, there are quite a number of Steemians who are able to successfully post several times a day and generate plenty of upvotes, comments and earnings per post. On the other hand, there are other Steemians who post several hundred times a day and can barely generate a cent or even a view per post!

Why the discrepancy? The big difference between the successful Steemians and the other Steemians posting several times a day is QUALITY! Regardless of how many times a day you are able to post, you must always produce articles of high quality – they need to be useful, informative and provide something new or of value to the community.

Moreover, while there is no specific limit to the number of times you can post in a single day, you can’t be posting your articles within minutes of each other! So you can’t post an article when you wake up at 8 am and then continue posting your other articles at 1 minute intervals: 8:01, 8:02, 8:03, 8:04, 8:05, etc. Ladies and gentlemen, those aren’t blog posts – that’s SPAM! Any person on the platform will get immediately turned off if you’re posting at such an insane frequency each day. Not only will your articles get ignored – you might even start losing followers!

In addition, if you post a multitude of times in a single day, you will probably just end up exhausting yourself. In fact, if you post over 5 times in one day, you might not summon the energy to post even once the next day! So not only are you mowing down your followers with a machine gun frequency of posts – you’re going to mess with your health too!

Now that we’ve established that there is an unspoken upper limit to the amount of times you can post every day (more than 5 articles in a day is seriously pushing it!), let’s see if we can determine the lower limit.

At the very least, how many times should you post a day? This question is easier to answer – you should be posting at least one article a day! That’s right – you must post every single day if you want to stay active on the platform and continue gaining more followers and expanding an audience for your content. This is an especially important piece of advice for all minnows because it takes approximately 30 days to build a new habit.

So if you can post every day on Steemit for your first month on the platform, you will eventually become accustomed to creating blog posts each day – it will naturally become your favorite hobby! And do you know what happens when something becomes a hobby? We begin to enjoy it a LOT more and start excelling at it!

Thus, you should aim to post at least once a day on Steemit and no more than 5 times in a day. If you do choose to post multiple times in a single day, make sure that you space each post by at least 3 hours. That way, each new post can attract a new audience at different times of the day as opposed to turning off the same audience if you post at smaller time intervals!

If you decide to write 5 blog posts, you can post the first one at 9 am, the second one at 12 pm, the third one at 3 pm, the fourth one at 6 pm, and the fifth one at 9 pm. As you can see, this posting schedule will attract five different audiences to your posts:

  1. the “I usually read Steemit during work” crowd at 9 am,
  2. the “I like to read my cell phone while eating” crowd at 12 pm,
  3. the “I’m pretending to work while counting down the hours” folks at 3 pm,
  4. the “I’m returning home from work and tired to the bone” people at 6 pm,
  5. the “I like to read while eating dinner” party at 9 pm.

What if you can’t post more than once a day because of your day job or other daily commitments? That’s perfectly fine – I have a day job too and usually post only once a day! Just because there are other Steemians who are able to post several times a day, that doesn’t mean that you are required to post multiple times too! You should ONLY require yourself to post once a day, in order to maintain the habit of posting regularly on Steemit.

For those of you that decide to post once a day, make sure that you try your best to produce an article of the highest quality possible! And aim to post your article at roughly the same time every day. Thus, your followers can have something new and awesome to enjoy around the same time each day – kind of like their favorite TV show!

Keep posting and never get discouraged! The upvotes and comments will come the more you post on Steemit and the higher you rise in Reputation. Also, please continue to engage your readers actively in the comments section – respond to all readers who comment on your articles as well as leave genuine and helpful comments on the articles you enjoy reading on Steemit!

Great post! I try to make time post at least once a day. But making quality posts takes time, so posting more than once is sometimes hard!

Thanks @bikinibabes! Yup I totally agree - it takes me at least 3 hours to produce a quality post so I can produce at most one post a day!

LMAO, she is not bikinibabes :)

Wow, thank you for this. I'm a bit late to Steemit but you know what they say! I just finished my first article here and am scared and enthusiastic at the same time. That goes hand in hand sometimes. I learned a lot just today reading your article and a few others in this same vein of thought and learning. Never stop learning y'all! Peace.

Wow. Another goodie! So, I posted yesterday and today. But prior to that, I skipped 5 days of posting and focused on reading and looking for good people to follow, upvote and resteem. I won't miss a day again thanks to this post. You rock!

Thank you very much @karencarrens, I really appreciate it! I try to keep up the habit by posting once a day - never more, never less! Eventually after 30 days, it just sticks. Even on days when there isn't enough time to write a blog post, you can continue commenting on posts you enjoy reading. That way you're still posting and gaining ideas for your next blog! ;)

Absolutely, the problem I had was I was so caught up in communicating with others, I didn't just sit down to write out one of many ideas rolling around in my head. I'm telling you what you already know. You do this and you end up falling in love with the people. When you post things like these two I commented on, you're paving the way for the rest of us. That means alot to us. :)

Thanks so much, I really appreciate your kind words - that means the world to me and encourages me to create more content that is hopefully useful for everyone. Steemit rocks because of awesome people like you. Thank you!!!

HI! I just started and have been wondering about that too! I think for now, I'm going to just do a lot of reading and spend time on the platform before I begin posting articles. Seems quality over quantity is the way to go on every social media site, and so far Steemit doesn't seem different in that regard?

Exactly right @huntcast! Read plenty and start getting your feet wet by commenting and interacting with your fellow Steemians. Then whenever you're ready, you can start posting blogs! Focusing on quality over quantity will take you a long way on Steemit! Welcome and have fun!

I'm Feeling Exhausted but in a Good Way.. and I've only written 3 Posts in 2 days. I think Reading a lot of Posts is Tiring as well, but It's just so darn Interesting. lol.

I know what you mean - I started last month too trying to read every single article! Now I try to focus on completing my blog post for the day before diving deeply into reading all the new posts on my feed. Take it one day at a time and you'll do great!

I have resolved to post once a day, a kind of "variety post" featuring a series on habits, a musical offering, a "crypto-corner" and a devotional/scripture. I call it the "Steveitt Standard".

What that does for me is it stops me from making a bunch of crappy little posts, and it stops me from spending hours making a really good post that nobody reads, because people don't know me yet.

I figure the Steveitt Standard could become something predictable and comfortable to some of my followers, kind of like how people used to watch "The Tonight Show" not necessarily because it was a super show, but because it was part of a comfortable routine.

Anyway, I wish you the best, and I think you're on to something when it comes to one post a day--very smart, but make that post count!

Thanks @steveitt! Haha I like the idea of a "Steveitt Standard" - offering variety but also a type of predictability similar to "The Tonight Show." It also helps you stay organized and focused on a producing a quality post every single day of the week. I totally agree - if one post a day is the sweet spot, gotta make that post count!

great advice! Thank you!

You're welcome @makemoneytoday!

So true, too many posts and that mute button starts looking awful tempting 🤠

Lol exactly, too many posts ends up looking like spam and can automatically lead to a mute and cost that pour soul a follow!

Hi, you have nice picutres, gif and good post. I think 1 good post a day or 2.

Thanks for reading @winvideos!

Thanks for the advice! I haven't posted anything yet, but I'm planning on posting once a day. Just getting used to everything first. All the best.

Thanks for reading @dreasbeats! Always start first with plenty of comments and then whenever you are ready, you can write your introductory post. Take your time, interact with the entire community and have fun! Welcome to Steemit!

Okay nice one, appreciate it!

Helpful article. Especially for new bloggers like myself. Unfortunately, It's quite hard for me to post one article a day, especially one of good quality. I usually end up writing one every 2-3 days and I always try to make my posts helpful and of excellent quality. Thanks for the post! good read!

That's understandable - it certainly takes a lot of effort to produce a high quality post every day. But even if you can only write one every 2-3 days, you can continue writing useful and good quality comments and interacting with your fellow Steemians every single day! Thanks for reading @lenscape!

great post, usuful for me too cause i have habit of doing something without any limits so i will just post a single blog a day.

Hey i like it. Quality over quantity😁

I am new to steemit and was wondering about the frequency of the posts. thank you for the great tips!

I'm a baby minnow and I'm just getting on the scene. 30 day challenge accepted! Thank you for the information, I'm inspired to inspire.

wow! This post has been on steemit for 6 months already. But it help me a lot. I found out this post because I am seriously looking for this and i typed it in my browser. Thank you @cerebralace.

By the way, I am so sorry for my bad English.
With this English skill, may be I will need years to produce quality post.

Very helpful post! I'm worried about developing a sustainable Steemit presence that I doesn't turn into a chore. Not sure I can do one a day that's of good quality, but it's helpful to think about.

Thank you for the helpful advice. I am new here, and this was one of my first questions.

Beautiful and helpful article. I learnt a lot.

You're very welcome @newsworld!

I knew i was creative and smart but there was no platform to express myself.
I am just beginning to write.
Practice makes perfect and sometimes i read my writings and i won't believe i wrote them.
I want to keep writing...
I want to keep posting
Thanks for the post

Great article. Thanks! Good advice. I like how you kept it specific and simple. Is there any way to schedule your posts for future posting? For example, say I'm feeling extra pumped today and write more articles than usual. Can I schedule a post for tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, a week later, etc.? Would be cool if that's possible. Thanks again. :)

I take the 30 days challange :D

Thank You!

I post only 1-2 times a day and my posts have been getting little upvotes or completely ignored.

Great share. Thank you for this

Thanks for providing great content. I try to post only one post per day and make quality content.

Wow I tend to post 5 posts in like 1 hour and then not post for a whole other day (I am doing this completely wrong) *facepalm
