I noticed somethings in the past few days:
- Spammy account
- New accounts
- Great writers
- Not enough Steem Power
Spammy account
Yesterday or so, it was quite obvious, with more than 1 post per minute Steemit was spammed. If you looked closely, most of the content was plagiarism or fake #IntroduceYourself posts. Those spams made our legit posts less visibles.
New accounts
With all the hype around Steemit, new people arrives everyday (which is great BTW). And they posts, more and more. Which make it difficult to all of use to get noticed.
The posts are up by 58% between the 6/07 and the 8/07. Which make it almost twice at difficult to get noticed.
Great writers
As I said in a previous post, great writers trust the charts. Every day we see the same name on the hot/trending list. And those sections are the best to get noticed. Less competitions and more visibility since spammy posts won't get there.
Not enough Steem Power
I am actually to little to kick myself enough with my Steem Power so I get notice quickly. If my post doesn't make it in the 12 first hours, it is dead, since it goes on the lambs of the New section.
As an example, when I upvote one of my posts, it makes only 0.01$. Usually, people won't go on a 0.01$ tread, because they will think it is not good enough to have more than that, and pass to the next 10+$ big thread in all this ocean of posts.
So, should I keep posting even if I have almost no chances to get noticed?
I don't ask the question only about myself. Because I'm not the only one in my position.
So, should we let the great writers and the spammy accounts take over the platform, to make a website with only 2 sides, a great one and a bad one?
I am new here so I am still working my way around the site. My own strategy is to keep my head down and put out quality stuff that is from the heart and/or backed by data or personal experience. This should hopefully allow some of my readers to benefit. And leave the rest, particularly equity in discovery and reward, to the mods to improve over time. I can focus on only one thing (which is within my control) and that is the quality/relevance vector.

Their is no mods, so it probably won't improve over time!
But you are right, the key to success it the quality of the content.

Good point about the absence of a mod, Clement. I guess my point really is that your entire energy as a content creator is better served focusing on getting kick-ass quality out rather than figuring out how to hack the system in your favour at the margins. I suspect that my approach is likelier to move the needle in the long-term.

Hopefully there will be some organic re-discovery mechanism so that "unique" / "novelty" posts can be found like gems in the wild. I want to try to publish my 46-pager short story here lol.

Yes that would be cool if "unique" and "original" posts had their own section.
Good luck with your short story, I'll read them when you will post!

@clement Unless the whales around here upvote, new comers will find it harder to get the desired payouts. I've been here for 2 days and figuring out how the system works before sharing my posts here! I value my time and content as much as anyone else. Your points are valid too! But, just as any other online community, this will take time to grow. We must have spent several hours on useless networks as FB and other forums everyday. Spending a few hours, learning and earning something along the way out of Steemit isn't a bad proposition, and ofcourse nothing is guaranteed! Don't make it your job just yet. Underdogs have to endure! Im upvoting you (tho it may not yield you substantial income) because I don't want you to give up just yet! For when I start posting this will remind me not to give up myself! :)

it's trial and error. post everyday, you only need a hit once a month, right? :)

Don't you think that getting a hit a month will be much harder when Steemit will be famous?

that's possible. there's no formula to tell how and if content goes viral :)

At the pace where the network is distributing rewards (literally helicopter money), whales will soon represent no more than modest cetaceans in an ocean of steam power and users. But until then, please bear with us. We are trying to review as many posts as possible but we are humans, and it can happen that good content slips through the cracks. Don't be discouraged. Keep trying. You won't regret it if (when!) Steemit chomps Reddit alive.

I like the "when Steemit chomps Reddit alive" part aha!
I will try to keep posting then :)

Does it really go like that? :s
For NEW content I read titles and if I'm interested I open/read the post...
I don't look at the $ value to decide. Choose a great title and a good picture to attract readers :)

If you don't have much time, see two posts that seems great. One with 30$ the other one with 0.06$. Which one will you read?

Yeah keep posting. It's tough. I don't think that it's only good writers being upvoted all the time, just consistent writers and people who've been here from the beginning.
I think once the spammers realize they can't really make much money this way, they may stop. It takes a bit more effort now.
What about depositing some btc into Steem Power so that your initial post starts off with a higher vote value, maybe it would make it more noticeable? I'm not sure

I am only here since a week, so not from the beginning.
It will cost a lot of BTC to have sufficient Steem Power to get noticed isn't it? People with 500K Steem Power only make you earn 2$ per upvote, so you need 250BTC to upvote for 2$..

I wonder the same, I think my post are worth reading as I put a lot of thought and time into them. I do it for the enjoyment, I try not to think on the "payout". Keep posting things that matter to you. Plus follow and vote on my posting can't hurt.

I am new to this and was a little disheartened from how little notice my intro got and I thought it was rather interesting as I shared some of how I underwent brain surgery. Then tonight I wrote out a somewhat lengthy post and it gets no attention at all. I'm thinking I'll just stick to FB. :/
