My First Two Weeks At SteemIt - So How Do I Measure Up?steemCreated with Sketch.

in steemit •  8 years ago

I joined SteemIt almost two weeks ago, and made my first post on the very same day.

I was hesitant about joining, because all I'd been hearing about was the rapid decline of Steem. I knew a little bit about cryptocurrency, and so I realized that this was probably just a temporary thing and that the value of Steem would be going back up again soon. I've heard all of the BitCoin success stories, and I figured the very worst that would happen is that I would write a few articles and not make anything from them.

In all honesty, I have a pretty successful online business, and I was really more interested in trying out SteemIt so that I could get back in the swing of writing again. I used to write a lot, but as my business and other activities took up more and more of my time, I'd gotten away from it.

The idea of SteemIt really intrigued me. I'd heard that in the very beginning, people were making astronomical amounts of money for their content, and a lot of people thought it was too good to be true. It looks like that's calmed down a bit, but I still feel like getting in now presents an opportunity to get in on the "ground floor," so to speak.

I got to learning about the site, and the more I learned, the more impressed I was. I've come to the conclusion that the very best way to use SteemIt is to write for enjoyment, and if the money comes, well that's just a bonus. I've also come to the conclusion that the thing to do right now is to accumulate as much Steem Power as possible. I set my posts to pay me out in 100% SP, and I don't plan on cashing out for a LONG time. I'm looking at this as a long term investment and I'm doing something that I enjoy. How can you beat that?

I've published 10 articles so far, not including this one. The main goal of this post is to get some input from you, my fellow Steemians, about how my progress has been so far. I want your honest opinions on things like:

  1. How is the quality of my content?

  2. How are my payouts and votes for someone who is a newbie?

  3. What kinds of things am I doing wrong?

  4. What can I do to improve my content and my overall SteemIt experience?

  5. How did my first two weeks compare to your first two weeks on SteemIt?

I thought the very best way to do this would be to list all 10 articles in order, along with how many votes each one got and how much money each one earned. Then, I'll post some screen shots of my account value and average author and curation rewards. Here goes...

Well, I guess that about does it. So what do you think? Are these statistics below average, average, or above average for someone who has been a member of SteemIt for two weeks? I've written a total of 11 articles, including this one, and I have also managed to get 47 followers and achieve a reputation of 57.

I know I'm still a "minnow" right now, but I'm hoping that some of your suggestions might be able to elevate me to the next level!

Hello @contentking I've only been here for 7 days (is it that long already?) and I've put up 13 posts. Almost all of my posts have paid out $0.00.
At least I am consistent :-) I've got three posts that paid out more than $1.00.

But most of my stuff sinks like a stone.

I didn't come here thinking I'd get rich overnight. I came here to get a bit of a buzz from writing again, to get away from a wall of advertising on Facebook, and to try and connect with some positive people.

And that seems to be working :-) I guess Steemit is what you make of it. If you're in it for fun, then it will be time well spent. If you're in it to cash in quick, then it looks like you've missed the boat.
Upvoted and followed ;-)

I'm definitely here for enjoyment, and I figure if I make a little money then that's a bonus.

I don't we've missed the boat totally, though. Actually, I think it's still an early time to get in,and if you and I keep posting quality content on a consistent basis, I think we will eventually be rewarded.

I really think that Steem is not only going to recover, it's going to skyrocket. Now is the time to invest and buy while the price is so low. I think it's a perfect opportunity to get into SteemIt now.

Please don't get discouraged, either. I have a few posts that I thought would do better, but I guess that's the way it goes. Keep posting good content and one of these days you will catch the eye of a few whales and you will have a really valuable post!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate that.

Well with people like you encouraging the rest of us, I'm sure we'll all do well ;-)

I think Steemit will continue to grow as more people learn about it.
I think a different marketing strategy is needed however, and some work on the UI.
Telling people they can make their fortune, only to find that almost no-one is, is likely to lead people away. Telling people we won't spam you with advertising and hold your profile hostage when it gets popular will attract more people I think. And they'll be happy with the experience they get.

Just my 2 cents worth :-)

Heck yeah, you're doing great! Some top quality content from what I've read. Keep on steeming @contentking!

Thanks so much! That means a lot!

Operating to payouts, you've actually done very well in my opinion.

You obviously got noticed by the whales often, which is where the real money comes from.

If I were you, I'd keep it up!

Really? AWESOME! That makes me feel great. I appreciate you taking the time to give me your input. I did have two articles featured in the Curie project so far and also one was featured in another project that wasn't very big yet, but I was still honored.

You're definitely doing great then.

Wise choice to give steemit a try, especially if the price starts to rise.

Take a peek in some random accounts and compare your payouts to theirs.

Overall, you're even doing better than many.

Keep it up, and see what else you can accomplish.

Thanks. I'll definitely do that.

You're welcome!

@contentking I am also 2 weeks and think I am running parallel with you...good work

Good posts and quality your doing extremely well for a newbie and agree with the thoughts you mentiond on this post, upvoted.

Thanks! I appreciate that.

In my opinion you've done well

Thanks so much! I appreciate your input.

I think that you have done pretty well. Keep on steeming.

Thanks for your vote of confidence. I plan to try and post at least one quality article very day.

I am doing this on a part time basis so it's one article once 2-3 days
