DO RESTEEMING AND MENTIONING actually work well? Are those efficient ways of building reach and exposure on Steemit?steemCreated with Sketch.

in steemit •  6 years ago
124.jpgLately I've been discussing a topic that is related to mass memos with several people and it’s safe to say that I have learned enough about that particular way of "advertising" our content.

INTRODUCTION

line2.png

... And I've encoutered suggestions several times over now that perhaps it's better to use mentions or resteem as alternative tools instead as this would allow us to get more exposure to promote publication (either ours or posted by someone else).

To be honest, I've mixed feelings when it comes to the efficiency of those two methods. In my opinion, resteeming doesn't bring almost any traffic and mentioning users is very easily skipped by them (since the notification system doesn't really work at all on Steemit).

So, today I would love to share my little experience as well as learn what is your opinion, my dear readers. After all your opinion is the only one that matters to me, since I'm engaging with many of you directly.

RESTEEM

line2.png

Those who know me for quite some time now are already aware that for each post I publish, it enjoys very high engagement.

Which makes me believe that many people out there do make an effort to visit my account sometimes and check out my latest publication.

If this assumption is true, then I should also be able to assume that at least some part of this traffic will visit my latest resteemed post. Unfortunatelly after a few "tests" I conducted, each time showed that it is not happening.

My impression is that hardly anyone ever does care about any resteemed content. I personally don't. The only exception is when I recognize an author of a resteemed post. Other than that, I really don't open resteemed publications and I hardly doubt that other people do it as well.

Please allow me to give small example:

Just look at amount of comments.

Those are 3 quite recent publications, out of which two are posted by me and one is resteemem (@nachomolina is an author). The moment when I shared his work on my account he had 4 or 5 comments. Over 2 weeks later, he had only 6. At the same time, my own publications are enjoying close to 200 comments each one. How do I not have the impression that resteeming this post has been pointless then?

MENTIONS

line2.png

I've been trying to figure out how many people do actually react when you mention them in your post.

I quickly realized that mentioning is not as useless as I initially expected.

After all, the notification system on Steemit doesnt exist and the only way I know how to monitor who and when mentioned you is by using www.steemworld.org. Is there even any better way?

Based on my current experience, a majority of users mentioned in our post will hardly ever visit it. Which only underlines the problem with awful an notification system that all users are facing. Using different tools to check out Resource Credit (steemd.com), different to check out notifications (mentioned steemworld.org) and Steemit.com to publish our content and engage ... it all does look so confusing and it doesnt seem to work for many users. At all.

MY OWN FINAL CONCLUSION

line2.png

I personally gave up on the idea of bringing traffic to my publication by mentioning users within this post.

Sending memos to all those users seem to work way better.

I rather like receiving memo, which is easy to ignore if I would find it not interesting instead of someone mentioning me (by mentioning a very long list of everyone this person know), then followed by the process of opening this publication just to see if I even care takes more time than judging memo.

My strong impression is that people only care if resteemed a post that has been published by someone they know. So when my post is being resteemed by 20-50 people then it surely is a great way to reach many users. But pretty much only those who are familiar with my work will bother to click on that resteem. Otherwise it's just not worth it and it does make our profile look like a spam account.

I wonder what's your personal experience with resteeming?

Share your opinion with me. I read, reply and upvote each valuable comment.

Do you guys bother to visit resteemed posts? Do you think resteeming works fine for you? And what's your view on using mentions as well as the current Steemit notification system?

However, I personally don't have a big network of followers so I have to careful what I resteem.

Hi @crypto.piotr. Still new to the platform, so I'll withhold judgement on "resteem" for the time being.

As far as leveraging memo, I can see where this is tricky, but I'm definitely going to give it a whirl. As long as wallet's are not overwhelmed, this seems to be a viable alternative.

Thanks for your help.

Dear @guysellars

As long as wallet's are not overwhelmed

I don't think it will ever happen. Sending mass memos is not cheap and some platforms apparently filter wallets already and are showing only transfers of min. 0.01 instead of 0.001.

So sending 1000 memos would cost 10 STEEM. How many people out there would be willing to spent that much ?

Also I've learned that it's pointless to send memos to those who do not engage back with your content. And that simply means that if I send mass memo to group of "new users" then obviously next time I will ignore accounts of those people who didn't reply at all.

At the same time: if I open my wallet and I see 10 different transfers, then naturally I will ignore those from bots or people I don't know. But I will read every memo coming from someone I recognize.

So idea is simple: we need to improve "audience targeting", engage with people ensuring that they will recognize us and only then start sending memos (results shold be efficient).

ps. are you on telegram? perhaps you could find me there: crypto_piotr

Does it make sense?
Yours, Piotr

Its a matter of frequency.. just resteem maximum once a day and everything will be fine.. if posts are resteemed by several persons I know I would not see it as spam but as notification that it is really important to read...
and in general terms: if I follow someone and he finds a post worthwhile to resteem there is a high chance I will look at it...

Dear @solarwarrior

Resteeming once a day ? That's very often. Reality is that people care only about latest 2-3 posts visible on your feed. If those are resteemed posts then you can make assumption that you will lose your "reader".

if posts are resteemed by several persons I know I would not see it as spam but as notification that it is really important to read...

Very good point. Thx for sharing your opinion with me.

Piotr

My strong impression is that people only care if resteemed a post that has been published by someone they know.

This is very true. Generally resteems and mentions are a real hit or miss. There have been occasions where I mention someone and get a comment in less than 15 minutes. I've resteemd posts and seen them get extra engagement. But it's not a real strategy.

BTW you should check out Sam Ovens:

Dear @vimukthi

Thanks for sharing that video with me buddy :)

Hope you will have a great week ahead,
Piotr

Do you guys bother to visit resteemed posts?

No I don't, I really just care about the author and mainly the title of the post.

Do you think resteeming works fine for you?

No, not for me.

And what's your view on using mentions as well as the current Steemit notification system?

I don't think that using notifications is effective. I think the best way to catch somebody's attention is to really make him interested in following you. The number of followers is what matters the most in my opinion.

Thank you for this post. Still I am learning here in steemit.

Hi @crypto.piotr,

Just called you out on another post, so I decided it would be better to comment here as well.

Well, calling you out is a bit strong, because like I already told you, I don't mind the wallet memos.

In this post you also explain why you won't tag me even though I told you it would be better than sending me a memo. I get it a lot better now, thanks for the explanation.

I'm still learning about the platform, so my verdict isn't out on the old skool rules of not using votingbots and wallet memos.

But I do have one question:

  • Compared to a Facebook Share or a Twitter Retweet, how well does a Steem Resteem score?

For me that would be a more interesting comparison, because it would tell me of there is a steem blockchain related issue with resteems, or like someone else alreay said as well, we only check out a resteem if it is resteemed by someone who's resteem we value or have interest in (which is exactly the same as other social media channels)

As for the notification part. I think @partiko has an amazing notification system and I barely miss a tag. And like @fitinfun mentioned, @ginabot is great for non-partiko users.

Lastly, if you really read and respond to all of these comments, that's a lot, respect for that.

AMAZING comment @jeanlucsr

Just called you out on another post, so I decided it would be better to comment here as well.

Would you mind sharing with me link to that post? I really cannot find it (to many notifications).

Compared to a Facebook Share or a Twitter Retweet, how well does a Steem Resteem score?

Unfortunatelly I'm not able to give you any reliable answer. I never used Twitter and I only use Facebook messanger. So my experience is very limited.

I only have some strong opinions about Steemit because I tested number of solutions (together with few other friends) and we all came to very similar conclusions.

I think @partiko has an amazing notification system and I barely miss a tag.
Lastly, if you really read and respond to all of these comments, that's a lot, respect for that.

I really appreciate your advice. And thank you for your respect :) I believe that I owe my time and attention to those who give their time to write a comment. But yeah, it's not easy.

In my case, the only sensible notification system would have to be organized in similar way to "reply" section. Where you can see one reply after another. Unfortunatelly once you will exceed 20-30 comments / mentions a day it's very hard to react to notifications. All I can do is to open "reply" and go one after another. And still it takes me 2-3h daily just to engage with received comments.

I had to accept the fact, that I will not be capable of visiting posts where other people mention me. Memos are really best solution here so far :(

ps.
I'm not sure if Patriko does work on desktop or only mobile devices? Would you perhaps know?

Yours
Piotr

Hi @crypto.piotr,

The post is a week old and not my own, so finding the comment would actually be difficult and I would have to use steemd to properly link you up, so I'm going to elaborate on it here.

In short it came down to sending unsolicited link through memos being considered spam on this platform. I've added the image that sparked the discussion to this comment.

That it (the memos) serves for you as a solution to other problem, I now understand. However, we are now having a meaningful discussion because I can over to your post and posted a comment, not because of the memos. I just don't think memos are personal enough. They have the feel of an email newsletter, which works best with a) previous interaction/purchase and b) interest in the topic discussed. It is more of a push marketing tactic, which has severe limitations long term. The biggest issue with the memos is, you are sending the memos to people without prior consent, in online marketing terms, they didn't opt in.

I do however understand your intent much better now, but still feel there should be better options. Especially on a platform that hosts so many great developers. I hope some of them read this and will address the situation further.

@partiko is currently mobile only, but I did hear that there is a desktop version in the works (I don't have a timeline, sorry).

To conclude, your case study is quite interesting. With you demonstrating that you get more traffic and engagement through memos than actual mentions, the Steem blockchain has to come up with a way to improve the notification system and interactive culture of the platform in general. Just out of curiosity, do you by any chance measure the conversion rate from memo sent to interaction (upvote/comment) on your post?

Well, I found your post because @chireerocks resteemed it after I followed their blog from a comment they left in @steemflagrewards.

So I guess resteeming works 😉

I think often it does have a lot to do with the # of followers in the account but, as you can note in this case, not always.

As for mentions, it really depends on if the user has a notification system running such as Ginabot or a @partiko user.

Posted using Partiko Android

Dear @anthonyadavisii

I found your post because @chireerocks resteemed it after I followed their blog from a comment they left in @steemflagrewards.

Wow. who would think. I'm complaining about lack of efficiency when it comes to resteemed posts, and yet you found me thanks to them :)

All the best
Piotr

Also wondered the same thing. Thanks for taking time to research this. Makes sense. I also get mention by people I dont know and really only respond to those who are familiar to me or that I have build a relationship with. I tend to react to resteems and reciprocate vote as I appreciate being resteemed. I guess a mention does not hurt my posts too.

Dear @crypto.piotr
I resteemed good content most of the time because I think in this little way I can help their posts become popular especially contest posts but sadly my reputations and steem power is not that high so even how I wanted to give them a much higher upvote as a reward for their effort contributions in this platform I still can't do that. My resources are very poor to support them and I'm not really into mentioning names because it may find annoying to some especially if you just mentioning them for your own benefit. In my own experience here people usually ignore and you can't force them, if they really care then you will see their response and if not then sorry. 😔There are some reasons too- they are inactive from the time you mentioned their names or they disabled their notifications, lots of reasons that for me mentioning doesn't really works, it depends to those steemians who have the heart to help and communicate. I also noticed a lot of articles posted here really a valuable post but none of the big fishes dare to give upvote I don't know why because as I have known there are too many planktons followed big fishes here and I don't think none of them see that valuable post that the steemians worked very hard. That is why I salute you sir @crypto.piotr for being the most supportive steemians here. Sending memos to each and everyone of us here with those given token is such a great effort. Thank you sir for reaching our accounts and get us notified with this valuable content and be engaged. Resteem and Mention doesn't really works but the thing you did to us sending memos sir does. 👍 You make steemians go over to a particular post and boost popularity. It is one big help sir. I thank you for that! I know digging very hard for a good content is a way of getting big upvotes. But how about those steemians who exerted much effort about their contents but still undervalued because first they pay much attention to the reputation. If you have 55 and below reputation I swear most of you still hard to get $1 upvotes. Well, I have to be honest with my opinion, I think if we really want this platform to grow more then let us not leave newbies behind instead help them grow by going through with their hard earned post and have time to read regardless of their reputation. I also give thanks to those steemians who run easy contests like mermaidvampire, melinda010100, shaka, travelsbyblue, zephalexia, eii, photochallenge, atongis, tobetada and a lot more to mention. Most newbies engage in a contest than concentrate in making their own original content because they have bigger chance to earn and become popular. Shout out also to our generous and very selfless mentor surpassinggoogle for all his support he is the first big fish I am very fond of here. Again resteeming and mentioning doesn't really give a big advantage if the one who resteemed/mentioned has lower reputation or not a good friend to the one who mentioned. That's all and thank you sir for sharing this post it's one important topic to tackle really.👍👍👍

Dear @crypto.piotr - I immediately wanted to re-steem yur post (as always!) as it appeared in my feed. After reading your take I will not as I do not want your content to suggest "spam". sigh - the rare re-steem by myself is more of an act that makes me feel good in support but I can sadly see how, in fact, it is forcing unsolicited content on others. It appears tha Steemit is very heavily a marketing tool / ploy on others to pad pockets and the line is too blurred betwixt that and useful / joyful material.

  • a certain conundrum; how to ever hope to aspire beyond minnow status without grinding out regurgitated content on a fairly high level

Pee.S. - I have never received any notification of my name mention, I just recall reading in Steemit rules that by taking to time to type out a user's name (@+____) - they receive a "Steemit point" on some level or another toward "STEEM" or "SBD" or some such thing!

Dear @lanceman

After reading your take I will not as I do not want your content to suggest "spam"

I would love it you could resteem my post. What I meant is that if you will keep resteeming many posts, then your account will look very "spammy".

BIG thx for sharing your view on that particular topic. Appreicate it.

Cheers, Piotr

I personally do not do it The only exception is when I recognize an author of a redeemed publication.

Hello my dear friend @crypto.piotr, I think it happens to all of us and I think it is due to the fact of building strong relationships and commitments. Good, attractive and interesting publications are found in lots but what will really make a difference is the relationship with the author and the commitment of mutual support, interpersonal relationships is what will make you exist and commitment to review a publication immediately that you recognize the author of it. Of course, there are exceptions.

And what is your opinion on the use of mentions, as well as the current Steemit notification system?

Particularly I do not know if there is a notifications system in steemit, I have made and received some mentions but I do not have any notification or I do not know where to find them, but if this system exists I think it should work as in other networks like facebook or telegram.

I like receiving a memo, which is easy to ignore if it does not seem interesting to me instead of someone mentioning me (mentioning a very long list of all that this person knows), then the process of opening this publication just to see Yes I even care more time than judge a memo.

So far the memos are the most efficient tool that I have used (and I have not used many) and the one that has most compromised me, whenever I receive a memo from a known author with whom I feel committed immediately I open the link, I read and I try to leave my impression about the subject. Also sometimes the time is not enough to review account by account and I would also like to receive a memo and make the decision to open or not the publication but I usually read it.

Blessings friend piotr, a great theme once again, excellent publication.

Hello there! I always make sure that I get to talk to people and connect with them at least once a day. I don't mind being the first one to exert this effort of connecting with them. I post relevant comment according to my perception about the topic he/she shared. As you go along building this connection, you will always have this thought of checking this person out and then be able to get along with a number of people.

I usually post on steemit condenser so I am not getting notified whether I receive a comment of reply unless I will check my Replies and comments buton. I only do resteem is the post is really exceptional and hit way off my expectations. Thank you for sharing this post. I don't mind not getting the attention here because I already indulged into being popular several years ago.

Dear @fycee

I would like to thank you for your kind comment and for accepting my invitation (memo). Appreciate it a lot.

Well written post @crypto.piotr.

From my experience resteeming and mentions unfortunately don't work. Seeing post in a feed usually doesn't encourage to visit it (unless it has catchy photo or title), and if the post is resteemed the probability is even smaller.

I think that memos are the most efficient and not so bad way of promotion - as long as users agree to receive them. Unfortunately the system of "messages" as a memo on Steemit is broken in my opinion, because contacting with people through wallet interface is terrible experience, at least for me.

Dear @crypto.piotr
My experience is that i mention many people in my post but hardly any reaction. So it's not worth doing that.

Hello @crypto.piort

Particularly ceo to do resteem is not very beneficial, when I started I used a lot of resteem bots, however with time I realized that there was no difference in the visualization of my publication if I compared the before and after using the resteem bots .
It will probably turn out when someone of great reputation does, but nevertheless it is not the big difference.
You use a method, send memos, it is quite effective, in my opinion, but that is linked to your vocation to help others, and in turn this makes you want to help, because you know that your work is to benefit of many, not only personal.
Mention in publications, sometimes it can be useful, but it is something specific for some people, so it is not much that you attract only for that tactic.

And finally, yes, you need a notification system in steemit, which is efficient, only the applications that work with the blockchain or the steem server do.

I particularly have a week using the Partiko app, and it has a very good notification system.

Dear Piotr, i agree with you that steemit notification system is a bull shit, so i decided to move to busy.org where you can see very detailed activity page and where you can see every movement in a better grafic than steemd.com
Anyway i agree with you that resteem function doesn't have sense in order to get more visibility, so i agree with you that memos are the best way to inform your followers about yours news

Dear @intellihandling

Does busy.org allow users to switch to "toggle night mode" the way Steemit does? It wasn't possible year ago and I wonder if they changed that (it makes it easier for eyes to spent hours reading).

As I've mentioned before, now that the steem wallet requires a second log-in, I don't go there any more, so will not see any memos. I check my "replies" link several times per day, so THAT is the best way to reach me.

I know that Steemit was not built as a social media platform and lacks those things that would make it one. This is exactly why I post the weekly "promotions" page. If only people would start USING it, we could then have a central place where people could go to see what other have to offer. It takes some time to build it up, but if nobody wants to be first to use it, then the opportunity is wasted. The solution is there but I can't force people to use it. It is up to each individual to either support it or ignore it. Someone like you would be the perfect candidate to start the ball rolling.

Dear @happyme

This is exactly why I post the weekly "promotions" page. If only people would start USING it

I've learned already that your strategy may not really work well here on Steemit platform. I've seen few other people trying to achieve similar goals and they are all failing.

we could then have a central place where people could go to see what other have to offer

That's the thing. We are all overwhelmed with amount of content and choosing what to read and support is not easy. If people cannot even go through their own feeds, then very unlikely they would visit anyones post to see what he is suggesting as valuable content. That just doesn't seem to work this way.

The solution is there but I can't force people to use it

As a user I would say that 'your solution is not helping me'. After all users want to reach interesting content created by those who they know and recognize. Not that many people actually care about content created by "strangers". So for that reason your solution may not really work well on this platform.

So real problem is not to collect links to interesting publication in form of "promotions" page. Real problem is somewhere else: how to notify your followers about your new publication. This is what is missing the most here.

Regards @crypto.piotr .
this week try to do more publications in steemit.

I must take advantage of the time I have internet.

The healing work that I like the most, requires that I be more active in steemit.

The problem of light and internet makes it more difficult for me.

Today I published what I do when they mention or label me.

Personally I always review the mentions and I come immediately
according to the case.

if your agenda allows you and you can take a look at my post, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks for the invitation to your post.

I check the tab "Replies" to see who mentioned me. This has been useful for me

Screen Shot 2019-04-06 at 6.10.54 PM.png

Memo is useful when I know the other person who writes me.

Another option is to use hypertext. For example, I was concerned about the health implications of 5G technology.

Maybe we need a Dapp that emulate some features of facebook / twitter.

Dear @danielfs

"Replies" do not show all mentions. It only shows replies to your comments.

So if someone will publish post and mention you in it, then you won't see that post in "replies" section.

Memo is useful when I know the other person who writes me.

Exactly :)

With resteems if I see them and think they look interesting I’ll check them out .

Mentions I always check out , sometimes not straight away as I have a lot on, but I always get back to them.

Also if I have time to browse my feed I will see resteems . But if I don’t then I will just miss them.

Using Partiko though I get notifications constantly and among them are mentions.
And I will check them out when I have time to do so.

So I would say mentions are more effective to get a persons attention.

However mass posting of mentions is frowned upon by the community and seen as spamming users for rewards . So I would not recommend doing this.

Mentions for people actually mentioned in the post is what I would recommend.

Your current method of messaging through the steem wallet is to be honest probably the most effective method I have seen .

It would be very time consuming on your part though . Not to mention the constant stream of steem flowing out.

You do an awesome job promoting others .

Have an awesome day!

Hi Piotr,
It couldn’t be clearer than stated on your post. You know me for a while now and you know I only say something when it’s worth and I don’t write anything different from my thoughts.
I’ve been thinking of the memos you send normally. Thouh I first thought it was spam I finally decided to take a look on your content. I then realized what kind of person you were and everyone who followed your memos know it already.
I was attracted by the kind words of your memos at a closer look when I finally decided to read them. That led me to go and take a look into the posts mentioned. I discovered great interesting content with huge nice true other users interaction with nice respectful conversations.
I have logically to stick on your memos as a nice source of quality content and nice conversations .

Definitely making convenient kind memos is a great way to achieve more exposure. I have to thank you for your contrib about this and also for your support and helping us to gain also certain exposure while commenting your stuff.

Dear @drakernoise

I then realized what kind of person you were and everyone who followed your memos know it already.

Thank you for your kind comment. Seriously it give me such a huge energy boost to read your words.

I discovered great interesting content with huge nice true other users interaction with nice respectful conversations.

I know. Aren't somehow people on Steemit different (better) than comparing to other social media out there? I love communities here.

Definitely making convenient kind memos is a great way to achieve more exposure

Keep in mind that you also can count on my support (if you would like me to help you get some exposure and topic is related to my main interests).

For me the memos work great.
I always read them and they are like virtual bookmarks for me.

However once am on the blog of the sender I also check the resteems but momos are more effective.

It's the promoted, hot and trending sections that needs fixing. If someone wants to get his/her voice heard, they have to pay for it. I am constantly seeing the same whales populating the trending page. Instead of the traffic going to the ones with the best content, the traffic is going to the ones with the biggest wallets. The rich are getting richer.

Dear @snoreball

That's very true. And nothing can be done to change it. Nothing except of war :(

RESTEEM is have some useful !
But people will only pick she have interested blog to reading.
Take my personal example,
When I visit my friends,
If her RESTEEM is my interest ,
I will click into it.
@nachomolina she is talking about Weku,
I only looked at it for a while.
Immediately skipped it.
Because that time,
I almost have to give up Weku,
I had joined Weku.
When she published that article,
Weku has some big problem.
Such as:
Pictures are often not uploaded,
Often can't vote,
Often unable to power up,
Many witnesses were officially fired,
Many people are officially asked to return their WKD coins to the official.
Many people are so angry that they have launched robot tactics.
I can have nearly a thousand people reply at each article - all is robots.
At that time, many people thought that Weku would go to die.
Weku at that time,
It’s already almost abandoned by me.
So naturally skip her article.

I usually resteem a lot lol 😂 but yeah resteeming has less organic intereaction but it still has higher impressions maybe we should get a tool to check this lol

Posted using Partiko Android

Hi @crypto.piotr i have gone through the post and share my view about it .

For resteem- I think it's not much effective way to attract more engagement. If I talk about me then I preferably read the resteemed post if-

  • Title is attractive
  • Photo creates interest to open it.
  • If I know the author then I read it.

Apart from these I don't read posts which are resteemed and I think many people do the same but I am not sure and this is my personal view.

** About mention** I like mention because I use Partiko app and whenever someone mention me in the post I get notification. I keep on checking these notifications whenever get time. Probably many times in day even when in office. So personally I like to be mentioned as it helps me to track the post. For me it works the same way like e-mail flag in Microsoft Outlook.
Though memo also notify me in Partiko. So whatever notifications I receive, I try to check it once for sure.

Memo- you always send memo and this is also very nice way as by this way I can even see it in steemit.com

Apart from these, I have a regular practice which I am going to share. For all the people I closely follow, i check their account daily or once in 2 days to check their recent posts and add my comments with upvote. I try to comment first then vote because if i visit again next day, i see it upvoted already that means i have added comment already.

You are one of them in the list of people I closely follow. I even see many people going through their feeds but for me its bit difficult as I don't get that much time to scroll it.. though i do it whenever possible..

Thanks brother and this is a nice topic to post. Loved reading it brother.

To be sincere with you, resteeming sometimes works but mentioning over and over again is counted as spam in this kind of network. I've been mentioned several times that I don't even think I care anymore to check the person's post.

The best things is to have a relationship with the user first.

yeah, resteeming and mentioning are helpful to promote your content. What if there are people who are not your followers that interests your writing's. Unlike those follower you already had, not interested of your content. We all have different taste.

in my opinion, resteem, memos and other notification is way to communicate in this platform.as a blockchain steemit has steemd which all activities and transaction noted. When we use another dapp such as esteem we get notifications about our activities in steemit.
Some time we resteem because we want to participate in a contest which ask rsteem as mandatory. the other reason is they think that the content was has good quality. I think resteem, memos and notification must be responded wisely.
Thank you @crypto.piotr
Warm regard from Indonesia

So, I had never been resteemed. But sometimes I resteeme posts by myself. You know, from an experience in the old platform like lg I can tell that there are 2 values of resteemed posts for your acc/journal: 1. You make a libreary of the interesting information for yourself, so you don't so thinking a lot about up-votes that it may bring you 2. Your libreary is really usefull and interesting not only for you. In this point you'll able to do even more points on the article than the author themself. It's like in a real life, I think. Everything depends on you ability of choosing and classification materials. Like a good bibliography that allows you to get the information without waste time

Posted using Partiko Android

I don't think mentioning is that useful, same goes for resteeming.

Thank you for sharing your post. 😁 I like to resteem blogs that I find highly interesting.weather I know that blogger or not.plus some blogs that I find to be fascinating and meaningful to me.and that it’s something that I don’t want to forget I will resteem it on my page.

Thank you again for sharing your post.and thank you very much for your generous gifts and kinds words to me.much respect to you and your family ❤️

I seldom read resteemed posts either. Unless it is a topic that I am interested in or an author I really like. Services that offer you resteeming services and just fill their feed with hundreds of randomly resteemed posts are totally worthless in MHO. I do use ginabot and steemworld.org for monitoring my mentions and comments. I try to keep up with them so that I can reply to people kind enough to make comments. I also do not mind getting memos to my wallet. Like you mentioned, if it's something that's not relevant to me, I can just ignore it, no harm done, no need to be upset about it!

Dear @blueeyes8960

BIG thx for sharing your view on that particular topic. Appreicate it.

Cheers, Piotr

Dude. Just stop it. :D

Dear @luegenbaron

Thanks for pointing out my mistake within that memo.

I hope I didn't upset you with it. Obviously I respect your wish and I will stop sending you memos in the future.

Yours
Piotr

Thanks.

But I think spamming in general wont help you.

It is not really liked here.

This platform is not like Facebook or Twitter ;)
It's the first of its kind.
But I guess I should not have to explain that to you.

Posted using Partiko Android

Dear @luegenbaron

You're indeed very right that Steemit is not like Facebook and Twitter. Mostly: notification system on Steemit doesnt exist at all.

And for that reason I'm sending notifications to all people I know and every now and then I also send memos with notifications to group of new accounts. Those who do not reply and engage - I simply ignore in next "wave" of memos.

You may say that "I think spamming in general wont help you". But why would you say that? Without strategy I would probably struggle the way you do (and most people does on this platform). With zero to very little engagement.

But I guess I should not have to explain that to you.

Well. I really appreciate your time and I only can wish you good luck. As I wish everyone else who chose to struggle here. If you were right, then each of my post wouldn't have 100-200 comments. Unfortunatelly your assumptions are wrong and I can show you several other very succesful people here, who use memos for their benefits.

They all are doing very well.

Piotr

Resteems - I think the person who cares the most about them is the author of the resteemed post. I never got much exposure when someone resteemed my post, but it was good to know someone actually liked it.

And mentions are pretty useless unless the mentioned user has ginabot ,partiko or another way of getting notifications (who the hell checks steemworld every few hours for mentions).

In my experience, the best way of promoting yourself is hanging out in Discord servers for a looong looong time, then you can catch a few glances of people who are also there...

Dear @modern-trojan

Thank you for sharing your view on that topic with us. Appreciate it a lot.

I sometimes look at resteemed posts. It may be a function of the front-end I use. It shows the author first in the usual format. At bottom, in small print is "Resteemed by so-and-so."

Posted using Partiko Android

@crypto.piotr, In my opinion many misses the Mentioning part because majority of Steemians use just Steemit to access the Steem Blockchain and they face lack of notifications. If more people will use Partiko, Busy or Ulog then in my opinion Mention tool will work more effectively.

Posted using Partiko Android

Hi @crypto.piort if in my opinion drop by and comment on a reasonable post, besides to appreciate an article and the content that is conveyed I don't think it is a problem, and about notifications in Steemit there are only answers and comments so there is nothing excessive, I can only comment like this😂

Well it depends on how many users are around on Steemit. Resteems used to work much better when they could be amplified to a bigger user base. Still work quite well though IMHO =]
I remember how on my alt account about photography I could not get a 0.02 payout for a couple of months then I started using free resteem services and got my first payouts. I found it still quite essential for newstarters that are trying to be seen.

Also, in your article you bring as example a post that went unnoticed on your wall. But resteems give a chance for posts to reach a broader audience also because they re-appear on your followers feed page, agree? =]

😃 ✋

Imagine not (((I have a crazy schedule now. Now a series of excellent projects are entering the market and I am working on it. I don’t even have enough time to analyze the projects before.

The biggest problem is. What I have to deal with projects. Read documents and there are a lot of them. And in this schedule, I'm already a week. In addition to preparing an advertising article for the project.

Yes, and that project CBNT - in my opinion it is not yet ready. But you know how to quickly post an article? You can copy it and simply paste it into the CBNT) Yes, somewhere, something will fall. However, the work will be unique and fast. Perhaps you should try to attract a new audience. Or take a new territory.

Dear friend of mine, Piotr:

I have been a witness and victim of adverse reactions from certain users who feel "invaded" the privacy of their wallet. I recently made a comment where I said that in Blockchain these spaces are not at all "private".

But since we live in community, the primordial aspect for subsistence is respect for the ideas of our neighbor.

Based on all this we should take "subtle" but tactful measures when sending bulk memos. Mainly select the recipient very well. Create lists of "non-cordial" users, for example.

The Resteem. It has shown little effectiveness to enhance the projection. There are steemit accounts that promote their resteem services to more than 12K subscribers. This provides "little or nothing" of scope.

The mentions. The raw steemit interface does not provide ways to find out when you've been mentioned. For this you must use for example, extensions in your browser. Some platforms such as "Busy" or "Dtube" include mentions in their notifications. The "Partiko" application for phones provides a good notification service.
Mentions may provide some scope, but they are not efficient.

Proposal. I think we could go a step further if we include the use of social networks for promotion. I think Twitter and Discord could work.

Yours, Juan.

Another amazing comment @juanmolina

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with me. Love it!

Based on all this we should take "subtle" but tactful measures when sending bulk memos.

The truth is that sending bulk memos to people who do not engage back = very expensive process. So at the end it's only worth to send them to those who know us already and will most likely react.

I think we could go a step further if we include the use of social networks for promotion. I think Twitter and Discord could work.

Blah. I'm on Steemit because I like that it's decentralized and it's on blockchain. Twitter and discord represents everything I dont like :)

  • I never look at my feed since I have 5000 followers so I do not care who resteems what. But sometimes I see good resteems while I am at another person's profile.
  • I use ginabot to see my mentions and to see when certain people publish posts I want to see. So I can scan my mentions quickly and visit if I want to.
  • The more wallet spam the better. The last couple you sent already had a lot of comments and I had nothing new to add after scanning the first few so I did not comment on them.
  • I don't see a benefit with a huge number of comments on my posts. I am glad to get comments and reply, but I have only really sought them in a handful of occasions in 2 years. I'm not really using this place for conversation for the most part. the most comments i get are usually on minnow tips posts I do with people thanking me of asking further questions.

This whole issue flies under my radar for the most part.

Hi @crypto.piotr,

I think you point out a very important fact that is problematic here on steemit:

How to communicate with people on steem ?

You pointed out three different options and none of them seems really satisfactory:

  • Memos : By many considered as wallet spam, it is quite tricky and not unexpensive to use. If people are playing steem based games, such memos are lost in the wallet transactions. Still it is possible to use memos if people really agreed to recieve them in the first place. Maybe an idea would be to create an app where people could register/unregister from memos

  • Resteems: People are not watching their feed very much so resteems are not really a successfull way to generate engagement in a post.

  • Mentions: Most users don't react to mentions because they use tools (steemit, steemd) where mentions are not visible.

Other solutions to communicate with users:

  • Using different apps: I've downloaded the Partiko app recently and now I get a notification each time somebody sends me a memo or mentions me in a post. These tools have a much higher impact when users get a notification to their phone.

  • Using internet marketing tools: Services like mailchimp allow you to create lists and send e-mails to your list. The advantage of using external e-mail services like that is that you can make sure that you comply with laws before you send the mails. Mailchimp offers free opt-in pages where people can register for your newsletter. So whenever we write an interesting post on steem we could send an e-mail to the list and put the link to the post in it.

Conclusion

I believe that the communication between steem users is somewhat complicated and not so easy to achieve. The means to communicate are not successfull for all users because we all use the steem blockchain in different ways, with different apps and interfaces. In the end you get the users that read your posts according to the means that you use to prompte them. If you use memos it is the people reading those memos that will come to your post...

Best regards,
Achim

Well opted topic. Resteeming, as of my experience, is not a good way of publicising content.

Initially even mentions were useless for me but after coming in touch with steemit alternatives like busy.org and partiko. You can catch hold of every mention.

But the problem is, not everybody is ready to go to these alternatives. Most starters stick on to steemit. Mentions will be a good way to publicise content if steemit starts giving notifications of mentions.

Posted using Partiko Android

As a starter you don't know there is an app unless someone tells you.

Yeah that as well. Thanks for reminding. I had missed that point.

I rarely resteem content these days and only if the article is a real masterpiece!

So true!

Hey @crypto.piotr, I think resteeming is a) not that effective and b) it can be sometimes really annoying when your whole accounts you follow share the same article with you. Then your whole feed is spammed with the article.

I think you only click on that article if you really value the person resteeming it. Like, this dude has the same interests as I have, so I should give it a try.

As I use Steemworld a lot, I think mentioning names is quite good since you see you got a response on your comment. For people not using any tools the provided toolset of Steemit is just bad. If you comment a lot you have to scroll.

By choosing replies you might be able to see what happened but the whole reply is out of context.

One way to approach that would maybe be a notification center like the one you have on Facebook. Notification: @mcnestler replied on your post or replied on your comment. I think that would make life much easier.

Overall I do not like the resteem tool and I rarely do it. Mentoning names only works for me since I use a tool.

I think Steemit should rethink their approach and probably should reinvent the notification system. But that are just MY thoughts on this topic!

Keep up your good work budy,
Max

Wow. Amazing comment dear @mcnestler

I don't really like following people who resteem too often. I check out the expert curators for that.
When they make a curation post with links to articles and brief summaries, this is good. It helps to summarize content from content summarizers I trust.
An exception is when a ton of people resteem the same thing, then I will take a took because it's probably important.

Mentions in articles are for the most part silly, I've always thought of it as a thank you. If I want someone's attention I'll go check out their recent posts.
But, I think if I read a blog and want to draw someone's attention to it, a mention in the comments is good. Oh I think @crypto.piotr would really be interested in this article.

No i dont think resteem do much difference

It's funny that this article is about "to resteem, or not to resteem" and I had resteemed this article! If I see an article that had been resteemed and had caught my attention; but somehow I've missed seeing the article in my "feeds", yes, I'm going to open and read it. Sometimes this COULD be an alternative way for others, who would have otherwise missed seeing the article, to "get the news out"! It's just like on Facebook: we share other people's content to "spread the news" or in hopes of the content would go "viral"...getting the article in many hands as possible. So, in conclusion: I am FOR resteeming to help great content, like this article, to get out there. Which do you think is better way to "broadcast" great content? Unilateral or multiple streams via resteeming? I like the latter better!

It could be the differences between the Dapps that we may be using, such as, you may be viewing my posts from a different Dapp than what I had used. Thanks for the "heads up" and I will look into this. 👍

I think so

Thanks boss @crypto.piotr!
I really appreciate the memos you have been sending, i tend to enjoy most of your posts. Concerning your post , my own opinion about the two subject matter: Resteeming and Mentioning. I would actually say this does not really work.

Resteeming

Though it might have work for many minnows (different communities) on steemit but has for individuals it rarely work even the newbies do not even stand any chance. I have a lot of experience where most time i send my hard earn steem and sbd to many account who claim to be a resteeming bot, but i have nothing to be happy about because i dont really see any value in it because my post still remain the way it is till the payout day. i might even end up not getting a single steem dollar on my post. In my opinion resteeming may only work for few and 90% of the newbies doesn't really stand a chance at all, resteeming might be wasteful and irrelevant .

Mentioning

As for mentioning, little also enjoy the privilege of this because mentioning can be useful and profiting only if you actually mention who you know either. Many are mentioned but only 5% can be concern about this act and decide to go through reasons why you mention them either reading post or by upvoting as your reward.
I am also a victim where i was writing a task by reviewing people i advise people to follow in order to build engagement. I mention big names like @originalworks @musing @uttopian.io @steepress @crypto.piotr @mediaworrks and many more. but surprising on thee post, even a single upvote, i got none. the only upvote i got was from @crypto.piotr. I later conclude that i just mention and talk about this account for nothing which seem to be discouraging.
So in my opinion, mentioning is not really helpful but i believe many oter people might have different suggestion and view of this two subject matters.

No need to call me "boss" hehehe. It's such an ugly word. Really ugly lol )

I'm very sorry for such a late reply. I only found your comment just now.

Lol

I personally use my mobile a great deal for steemit. I dont get to use the PC much. Only to administer my wallet.
I use @partiko so I do receive notifications @andyjem and always visit the post. To see who is taliking about me.
What would be very useful and I have asked partiko to look into it, is a notification when someone Im interested in makes a post. We cannot look at all of our followers but it would be good to keep up with the active ones.
So please feel free to mention me in your post or I am happy to receive wallet messages.
I try to look at as many posts as I can.

It’s hard to reach more and more people. Your reach is already quite extensive so increasing it further is challenging. I try to get to the memos but don’t always have time to. I do however like mentions. I use Partiko when I’m on my phone and when I’m on my computer I either use Steem peak or busy. Both of them are far superior to the STinc front end that people typically use, Steemit. There have been more and more using busy and Steem peak or still use STinc and add the Steemplus plugin. This doesn’t cover new users though, most still just use Steemit.

In short: I prefer mentions but memos are acceptable. Mentions bring me right to the post where memos do not. It’s about easy clicking for me.

Since I initially learned about GinaBot on Discord. I have been seeing mentions for a long time. Now that I use @partiko app I get mentions there as well. I guess @steemit just needs to add mention notification, which might happen with the new split.

Hi @crypto.piotr good content to interact. The indications are certainly not overlooked, are notorious and you lose the exhortation to comment on any publication. The memos for small users are costly, not all have that benefit in SP. For calling people to my publications, leo, commented on and voted to new people and not so new. It has worked for me, not to such an extent to reach 100 reviews but if you come to my blog. Thanks for sharing this publication.

Resteem is the fastest way, Fastest way to share information, Fastest way to give an initial reaction to a quality post, Fastest way to build a relationship between me and the owner of the post. Sometimes, like me a small fish when gives a vote not very successful because the vote value is small, but when I resteem, its shows how I appreciate. And when my post restemed by whale, wow it's really very wondeful result. This is mutual relation from resteem. This my experience sir @crypto.piotr

I'm here because you sent me a message. That's it. But then I couldn't find in your feed what you had messaged me about. Hmmm, strange indeed.

people who are not heavy resteemers likely have better response to resteems than those who do a lot of it. If we could add a comment to a resteem like we can on Twitter, then it could carry more weight. It would let followers know why it was resteemed.

As for mentions. While you don't use the option, there are a large number of people who use Ginabot on Discord which will alert them to a range of options including when they are mentioned. That is how I pick up most of the mentions I received.

Well that and @partiko which is installed on my tablet and sends me alerts about activity on my account and mentions.

Dear @starbuckscoffee

I just checked your profile to see what kind of content do you publish and I really didn't see anything I would like to support. I'm sorry but I'm not going to be able to help you.

@crypto.piotr for me what counts is having an approachable attitude, you are doing a good job at it :-)

Well, most of the time if I do resteem a content, it is usually for my references rather than just to let others see it.

Those bots that "offers resteeming services" is just bull because these are just "vote-for-vote" desperate "marketing" just to get you to send some steem / SBD over.

Even with upvote bots, as you have mentioned, does require heavy engagement. But how many out there do have enough time and energy to truly read and leave a thoughtful comment?

Now that's a good question.

And by the way, to get your post read from resteemed contents, I believe, personally, the title is very IMPORTANT.

Cheers!
