Voting Tips

  • As a new user on steemit.com you Start with 3 STEEM POWER and that means that your vote is worth just about $0.000157 Steem Dollars and that is only when you are at 100% voting power, so don't go all out voting for hundreds of articles on the first day
  • No need to give all your votes for articles published by whales that will surely generate a lot of rewards, because with your small initial Voting Power you are still not very likely to get any curation rewards
  • Try to vote for less posts per day, but for better articles (10-20 per day) and go for articles that you like even if they end up with less votes and reward you can still manage to earn more curation rewards from them
  • Try to vote after the 30th minute after a publication of an article to maximize the reward for your vote and avoid any early voting penalties

Posting Tips

  • Do note publish more than 4 articles per day, otherwise you get smaller rewards for the additional posts you make as a kind of penalty - the idea is to stimulate the writing of fewer, but higher quality posts
  • Use tags that are related to the content you publish, don't go for tags that are popular at the moment just because you think this will generate more exposure for your content
  • Try to include an image and not just write text, the right image can help you catch user's attention better than just when writing a good article that is text only
  • Proofreading your article before posting it can be helpful, especially if you are writing in English and that is not your native language
  • Formatting the text using simple things like headings, bold and italic text, quotes, using the right size of images etc. can make your publication look more professional

Other Useful Tips

  • There are a lot of helpful websites that offer tools for making your steemit experience better such as the Steemd Block Explorer, the Steem Stats or the Steem Dollar and many others, so you might want to give them a try and see what extra information they will provide you
  • Read more about the interest rate for the Steem Power you are have and the Steem Dollars that you earn by posting as it helps further grow your voting power and earnings just by holding it
  • You might want to read more about Mining Steem as this is also a way to help you increase your Steem Power over time if you have some spare CPU power to dedicate to that
  • Don't think only about money, the rewards you can get should be just an extra thing stimulating you to contribute to the community and not your main goal
  • Don't give up, not after a day or two or after posting a few articles that you spent time and effort and they do not end up very successful, keep trying and learning as you go

Thank you. I just started today and this article was very helpful.

Glad that the information was helpful.

Hi an thx for this article.

I have some questions for you.

  1. How long does it take to get new Voting Power
  2. You say vote only 10-20 articles per Day. So with how much Voting Power in % should i stop voting?
  3. What are early voting penalties? How do they work?
  1. 1 ot 5 days to fully regenerate (from 0 if you don't spend it), different sources claim different time, but once you start voting you probably won't be able to easily get back to 100%.
  2. It is up to you, the more you spend, the more time it will take to regenerate, but it is not a good idea for new users to spendit too much as this dillutes even further your low initial vte worth.
  3. Apparently the earlier you vote the higher penalty for your voting power you get in the first 30 minutes, so if you vote as you post your own publication at the time of publication your penalty is 100%, 50% at 15 minutes and 0% after 30 minutes. The same applies for voting for other's publications.

How do I even find the article I published as introduction yesterday? I want to see if it received any votes

Go to your Profile, all your Blog posts are listed in the Blog tab there.

Oh, just found out by clicking on my name, but if you don't see name as reply I am assuming you just ...? See it received VERY few votes. Is there anyway to re 'bump' it to get views or is that it, and you keep doing new articles? I want to but I would also like to 're-invigorate' my first one. For example is it possible to re-title it in the hope it may attract more interest?

I'm brand new to Steemit (I'm yet to do an introduction post) and have been gobbling up posts like this - yours is one of the best I've come across so far, so thank you very much!

I have written a post which I'm pretty happy with (I'd upvote it!) but a few posts I've read have said you more or less have to start with an introduction post... do you think this is true? I have much more interesting things to say than "this is me, I like X, this is my face (pic), these are my other interests", so a #helloworld post just seems a bit silly. Thanks in advance for your help : )

Intorductory posts can be quite helpful for new users to get them started, but them becoming really popular requires a really interesting story that is well told and not everyone has such a story to tell...

thanks for your help!

Thx - just started and this really helps - it's super kind of you.
