Too Many People Plagarize On Steem, And Make Money On It!steemCreated with Sketch.

One of the people I follow on Steemit posted an article on bitcoin news and i saw the @cheetah bot saying that he copied it, the guy literally responds "didn't you see I cited the source". WTF! Us bloggers are working hard to put out quality content and this dude made almost 10$ on this post, and he does this multiple times, i'll post his username in the comments when i'm done with with post, people like this should be suspended for a week on Steemit if they plagiarize. I want to ask my followers to report his posts where you see @cheetah comment on it, and please resteem this to get this guy banned! Oh, and also, this guy is a complete a**hole.steemitbloginvest.png

Yeah there are three types of post I don't like:

The copy-paste plagiarists

The people who just post a link to other people's work without talking about it

The "just embed a video and don't even type a sentence" posts.

haha, right, at least give the external link some context and/or add your thoughts on it.

You are so right... It makes me so sad if I found out afterwards that I liked and commented on a post which was a copy-paste and they did not mention it. Sometimes I just need to ask: "is this your work?"... To bad it is like this. But I hope we will see changes in the future, Steemit is still in Beta, and if cheetah kan find these copies, I bet the Steemit developers could create a tool like this on the platform! Great post, I guess this one is really yours 🤔😉

haha yeah its mine, no cheetahs in the comments! But yeah, its still in beta form so many improvements will come to this platform to make it better than it already is, but i hate the fact that some dude just copy and pasting makes 12$ while i'm over here making 1-2$ a post but im actually putting sweat into my blog! thanks for the feedback!

and if you don't mind, could you resteem this post? i would like to build up my steems lol

^^ this is the dude who plagarizes and makes good money doing it

Tough world... :(

Totally agree! Resteem these resources for your followers - Copyright infringement is an issue too.

Citing the source does not make things okay legally or ethically. Fair use allows one to use just enough content to give context, and you should never copy and paste things in whole. If you want to quote someone, a small snippet of text, example image, or short video clip and link back to the original is fine. Copying the entire article, image, or video is copyright infringement. Steemit should implement a filter or automated system that compares submitted content to what it can find already existing on the Internet (humans would have to be involved to compare things in print I suppose) and if the Steemit account cannot prove they have license to use the content here, payouts should either not be made at all or to a charity voted on by the witnesses or community as a whole.

well said!

Thanks, flickr creative commons is a good resource for images that people can use in their posts legally so long as they follow the license (usually needs to be attributed to them with a link to the original in the image caption or at least somewhere in the article). Quoting a sentence or three isn't necessarily a problem so long as you cite your sources, but anything beyond that is really pushing the boundaries of IP theft and fair use. And on Steemit it is pretty easy to see how much someone made off of your work if they just copy pasted, so it's not going to be that difficult to decide if it's worth talking to a lawyer and pursuing it... ;-).
