Greed

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

Self interest and Greed are taking over Steemit.
What i can say is there is also a few really selfless, awesome people here, who are doing so much everyday to make Steemit a better environment.

I have to be careful what i say due to the flag abuse system, and those who are corrupting the platform the most, are in a position to wipe me out.

Trolling for upvotes and followers, through comments is a cancer that is spreading. Even subtle methods like tagging and asking people to read their posts, can usually be seen as the same as asking for upvotes.

Steemit has the potential to be the best social media site on the internet, but needs a wider variety of content providers and less downvoting by people who want to keep it in the image they prefer.

I am keen to improve the platform and have put forward suggestions, for our favorite authors to be grouped and prioritized in our feeds, and for search to be improved, and a Steemit exchange to protect people from problems. I have other ideas too, and have shared some of them, unfortunately my followers are not the people who could make them into reality.

It would be great if i could speak clearly about the reasons Steem is 17th most popular Crypto and why it is valued at such a low price. Perhaps it is better to say what a great buying opportunity has been created, and that we should all power up as much as possible right now.

Multiple accounts have to be limited, as this leads to disputed amounts of users on Steemit, and other problems with hiding who is making massive withdrawals and self voting.

Thanks very much, to the awesome whales who are doing a great job with curation and sending out upvotes, your efforts are always noticed.

Think about how precious this platform is and how poor the alternatives are, lets all do our best to improve Steemit and make this the best social media site on the internet.

I read a post from a popular Steemian, who suggest padding your posts with lots of words, simply to attract larger rewards, and it certainly works for him. Wouldn't it be better for us all, if we got our point across as concisely as possible?

Thanks for reading my post and i wish i could have pointed out specifically the real culprits and exact problems, as i see it.

Hi DD4R

Good post.

We at Community News are not concerned with your so called trolls - these are just newbies, often foreign, trying to meet people and get ahead. We actually like to support these guys.

We are not concerned about multiple accounts as this is Steemians planning for the future.

We are not concerned about self-upvoting and this all part of a capitalist platform and you can only upvote to the extent of your stake (either in one account or across many).

We are however concerned about the number of gambling upvote bots who charge a fee to distribute the steem they receive for free.

What is most important however, is that people like yourself are thinking about these issues, with the purpose of improving the platform.

There does seem to be a neverending amount of scamming and gaming the system going on. It does make you wonder "what's the point?" at times.

it is still the best social network= thnks for dropping in

thanks Choogirl

This really thoughtful post received $2.26 so far. Two minutes before I've stumbled upon a funny meme that made over $90. I think the promise of "being rewarded for creating great content" doesn't really add up. We observe the same phenomenon as in Facebook: cat-pics get tons of upvotes/likes, whereas critical thoughts are being overlooked.

Steemit has great potential, but the reward-structure needs to be overhauled. But how to do it? No idea so far 🤷‍♂

That being said, I agree completely with your point here:

lets all do our best to improve Steemit and make this the best social media site on the internet.

thanks

Excellent post. I can tell you have been researching the problems that could easily be resolved on Steemit. I agree with you as well, especially about the Whales that do help out. Truly, their presence does not go unnoticed. I myself have never used the flagging system on anyone. If i see a problem I just usually avoid the user all together. Also, no worries, you didn't step on anyone's toes. You are simply pointing out flaws that are sometimes overlooked because you, as I, want Steemit to be the best blogging site out there. Cheers and RESTEEMED.

thanks mate

I totally agree with you @daydreams4rock, multiple account abuse is definitly a plague on multiple currency platforms. It has been an issue on bitrad.io, which I have invested in.

they hide the actions that people don't agree with

I am still relatively new here but I do agree fully with your post, the spammers are so rise here and I have seen many who clearly have multiple accounts, and I think for Steem to grow these both need to be brought under control somehow

wish i could say the real problem -- the risk is a downvote would wipe me out

I understand what your saying you have to be careful

Execellent blog @daydreams4rock as many may or may not agree but it seems greed is the vehicle used on steemit by many users. Many will never understand the true value of networking so they will continue to act selfishly. Let's see what happens as time progress.

Well, no idea if that post padding works. I actually get paid better when I post less. Sometimes in the past, I would make a really long post, and get hardly no upvotes because it was too long for most to read. Concise is better, and I think it pays more in most situations.

People with large whale followings, they may receive more because whales who regularly upvote a person, may upvote more if they believe that person spent more time on the post. For most people, though, overly long posts is a recipe for wasting your time.

for me i agree -shorter is better - if you cant say it quickly clearly and concisely then no one will understand - good to see you here mate
