May 30 Days Writing Challenge - Day Twenty Seven: How Many Comments You Upvote Each Day? Why?

in steemit •  7 years ago

Welcome to the twenty seventh day of the May 30 days writing challenge. If you don't know what this challenge is about, please have a look at the introductory post. Also, at the end of each article I will post the links to all the posts in the challenge (if you're joining the challenge, I encourage you to do the same). Also, if you join, don't forget to tag your post with #challenge30days and also leave a comment with the link of your post, so I can evaluate if you're one of the 3 lucky Steemians that will get a full upvote from me.

How Many Comments You Upvote Each Day? Why?

On a regular day I upvote between 20 and 30 comments. There are days when I upvote more than 30.

The regular voting power for each upvote is between 5% and 10%. So, a "regular" comment, one that contributes at least with an honest opinion, gets at least 5%.

There are also comments that I upvote up to 50% if they are relevant or very complex.

I think the curator role of a participant in this platform is very, very important. And I think this role should be enforced constantly, according to every user time constraints and abilities. For instance, I do not have time, currently, to read the entire content that I subscribed to, hence I'm not curating too many articles. But I read all the comments to my posts and I do my job as a curator here.

I often vote comments just because I recognize the account, as a way to say: "Hi, I recognize you, nice to see you around".

So, how many comments you upvote each day? Why? Leave a link to your post in the comments so I can check it out.

Sort Order:

I have very limited time to dedicate to STEEM each day. As a result, I upvote 5 comments/posts a day at 100% SP. Since we are also looking out for ourselves (a little bit anyway), I try to make 5 posts a day too, which I also upvote. The end result is a 50/50 split of my daily 20% SP that needs to be distributed or else it's lost.

I upvote each comment that I receive on my posts unless it is clear spam. The voting weight for these upvotes is most of the times more than 50% because I don't receive so much comments on a daily basis. And even with the upvotes that I cast, still it is hard to get other people commenting so I guess I should increase my SP :)

And also I upvote comments from other posts when I find them underrated or when I want to increase their visibility and in really rare cases my own comments when I strongly disagree with the post presented and when I want to make my opinion visible. But again, these are some rare cases :D

That's what I do to . . . when I've got something worth posting anyway. I think it's one of the best ways to reward engagement, but, like you say, you've got to spend some time sorting through everything so that you're upvotes go to real people truly making the effort to add to the conversation in an intelligent way.

And when I don't have anything interesting to blog, I look around for other opportunities to reward and comment on quality content outside of my blog . . . like I'm doing here. 😎

Hey, I didn't expected that at all! I always respected the fact that even though you got a lot of Steem Power, you are using it to encourage engagement and you have achieved this by upvoting the comments that you receive at your posts. This generates a lot of traffic and as you have seen by now, a great number of good comments. I wish that more people would do these things more often, and not sell their Steem Power to bots or using self upvotes, but after all, there is everybody's decision about how to use their stake.

They may earn more money, but you definitely earn respect and appreciation doing what you currently do. And I have to say thank you for your upvotes, given to me, and to anybody else!

I agree with this approach! It gives people incentive to read your posts and is a nice way to promote engagement!

I think that's the real kicker, steem is best when people talk, so voting comments is really important.

Yes, I see this encouragement to engagement as a way to bring value to Steem. If at first people engage for money, after a time they get used engaging so most of them will keep doing it after the rewards get lower or even disappear. I guess this is how Steem is designed to work after all :D

I think it is really important that we upvote (genuine) comments on our posts as comments 'add' to the overall value of the post and therefore should be rewarded in my view.

It also shows that we've read it and acknowledged their input (which, after all, is equivalent to a post itself in the eyes of the steemit platform).

I get it, that for dolphins and whales, there may at times be a heck of a lot of comments to wade through but the effort to respond with at least a token upvote is appreciated.

One thing I want to try to do more is to upvote other's comments in the comment section ie on other people's posts.

~10

ANyone that leaves a thoughtful comment on one of my posts, I will give an upvote to. Anyone that leaves thought provoking comments on other peoples post I will usually also upvote. I don't really have a set number in mind but I think it is something similar to your, 10 - 30 per day. I agree, curation and discussion are fundamental to growing the user base on this platform and upvoting comments are one way to do this

I (often) upvote every non-spam comment on my posts. Sometimes I forget, sometimes I don't feel like it. People shoudl feel entitled to an upvote :P

On other posts I seldom upvote comments. First of all, I don't always read them even if I upvote the article.
Second, quite frankly, it is a bit of a hassle, especially since you cannot batch upvote. Always wait 3 seconds...
Third there is the bad thing with the money. As long as I am not FIREd, I have to et what I can ;)

Voting 20 to 30 comments a day, its very generous. I appreciate it.

On average, I do 5-10 comments in a day and upvote only 10% of that.

Depends on my SP at that time, I can get to comment up to 30 times a day, even more and give my opinion on a subject and vote around 10 to 15 votes a day, it all depends on the quality of them.

i can hardly do 10 comment per day

i upvote 20 to 30 comments a day ,i dnt know how much helpful it is ,but i am generous enough to upvote everything which comes to my eyes

I usually upvote posts more than comments.
I tend to read just the very initial ones on the pots and could upvote just one or two every day. It is just very uncommon to find comments adding value to the post, that is the main reason.
Here's my post

i Think everyone should get up vote 10% on his own voting power and comment unlimited.

I never check and seldom upvote comment. Well i guess i have to start now.

I vote for all the comments in my posts but I notice that this is not a habit for many of our colleagues.
My post: https://steemit.com/challenge30days/@bluemoon/may-30-days-writing-challenge-day-27-how-many-comments-you-upvote-each-day-why

Upvoting comments gets my typical answer: It depends 😄

Just as my post's title says, I would love to give back more. It's just that my account is still really small.

I do like that people like you are actively trying to help grow the community. I'm looking forward to those days I'm able to do that as well.

Wow. What an interesting challenge @dragosroua! I wish I'd found it sooner. I really like some of the other challenges. As far as today's post; as a newbie on steemit I've really been confused by the voting and commenting aspect. I feel that those making the effort to comment and upvote me deserve a comment, and generally that comment an upvote. Those whose posts I regularly read and comment on without reciprocation don't exactly encourage me to continue to do so. I don't always comment on my upvote, perhaps half the time and I upvote maybe around 20 posts a day. I had planned to do so more but was advised to restrain myself. In total, with the upvotes and replies to those taking the time to comment and even reply again I probably upvote far more. I'm still trying to understand all the nitty gritty and I feel that a good quality posts deserves recognition. I understand many are purely motivated by filling that wallet, others are simply too big to bother with the small fry but I really enjoy some of the content, as well as the further interaction and acknowledgement. Thank you for putting sharing your thoughts

Just stumbled upon this challenge. Hope that you will do another 30days challenge again, this might just be the push I need to start writing and posting. The current topics are very easy to write about, maybe just one or two that Steemit newbies might have less to write about since our engagement with the community just started. May I suggest for the next 30days challenge, maybe a 'wild' topic can be introduced begining of each 5 days, and participants can choose to invoke the wild topic to replace a particular topic that they find difficulty writing within that 5 days. I think this will spice things up and maybe you can have different sponsors every 5 days to review the wild topic submissions and give a special prize (upvote/SBD/delegation) to whom wrote the best for the wild topic that sponsor chose. Different sponsors from diverse categories would be fun (food, crypto, beauty, travel, etc).
Anyway it goes I'm sure it will be a great challenge to take part in and count me in.
#challenge30days

just upvoting my own comments.

Can't see that :))

here you can see :p

Oh, that is unfortunate!

What is your strategy for this action?

Any person cannot comment on my post. If any one comment it then I upvote on its comment

I have never counted, but this is why :)
How many comments to you upvote each day? Why?

Thank you so much for sharing a good post. I wish you a better post. For this nice post you want to improve your steemit. I also want steemit devolope.@dragosroua

I upvote all those comments I found worthy of upvoting.

i post good stuff daily ,i am regular in upvoting ,still i didn't get better author and curator rewards ,why isnt steemit streamlined? @dragosroua

One of our bad habits is that we do not read the post and we do not understand the comment. It's very annoying.
So we should read the post and comment on it.

Я не знаю о сущности Вашей деятельности, но мне нравится то, что Вы поддерживаете свою аудиторию. Я ценю таких людей

To be very honest, i not posting regularly, but i'm upvoting posts related to steemjet comunity.
why steemjet?
because sp delegated to me is from our boss @dimimp. and i want to utilize it for steemjet cause :)

Hi. First time here. Nice to meet you and thank you
esteem://challenge30days/@talkingwiseshit/thoughts-19-on-upvoting-comments-here-1ac07da2d5e8

I'm here after a long time, but i'll start upvoting posts as well as comments but the issue is my vote worth nothing.

I've been upvoting every comment on all my posts, except for what looks like spam, though I may try to engage with them if I feel they just don't know what they're doing is not acceptable here. I upvote nearly all the replies to my comments, too. If I'm going to upvote, I do nothing less than $0.03, which is currently 20%, and I go up according based on the content of the comment. Rarely does the vote go above $0.06-$0.08.
