Why twitter is ruined. Don't let it happen to steemit.steemCreated with Sketch.

Twitter is completely ruined. You can probably guess why. The only people that are popular on Twitter are because of 1 reason. They use bots. Heck, even I used bots. My account has around 2500 followers last time I check and I got most of them in under a month, just from following people. So I made this post to raise awareness and so that us (the community) can discuss what can be done. Twitter is controlled by follow back, auto msg, and auto like bots. I have a feeling that as steem becomes more popular more people will begin to use this damaging bots. Why? Because people like money and these bots make you money in the short term. The problem is, if everyone uses the bots then the whole system becomes polluted and the sense of community fades away. You know the feeling, like when your entire inbox is filled with 100s or even 1000s of bots saying check out my site, buy my product, thanks for following me, follow me now.... So as the opportunity arises to use these destructive bots (and it will), I encourage you to not. Sure maybe it will make you more popular, but its ruining the experience for the rest of us. Anyways, I made this post not to hate (heck do whatever you want) but to throw out some suggestions. I am curious to read your opinions on the matter. If you are so inclined maybe consider resteeming to spread this post around. ;)

I share your concern. I joined Steemit because I thought social media that is un-hackable would be uncensorable. But I'm beginning to fear that Steemit could become just another "vote for prom queen and prom king" exercise, where only popular drivel is discussed. Hope I'm wrong.

Yeah. Guess well see.

I have only been here a month and have see the bots at work.
And it does take away from the happy feeling you had while chatting with the guy as he has 8 votes on each comment seconds after posting.
But one guy had a solution down vote and flag ... So felt good again lol

The fact that steemit uses manual approval would help no? For both you and ops concern. An ip ban could probably fix it, if not vpn circumvents it. My biggest concern is how much voting and posting power the biggest accounts have. If thats what you mean with prom king and queen i agree. It seems like it could snowball out of control. I feel like i dont understand enough tho.

Good post @edolo, resteeming

Thank you, appreciate it.

Well thought out. I hope that short term greed does not trump the creativity that can be fostered by a homegrow community that is incentivized to create good content. I guess only time will tell.

Agreed.

I don't think this problem is fixable without drastically inconveniencing the actual users by putting captchas for every post, follow, upvote, etc..
That would be much worse than bots.

Interesting. Good idea haha. jk

That's what drew me here, a platform that hasn't been corrupted quite yet.

yep

Thank you for the information.

Anytime.
