This post is a simple guide for beginners on Steemit. It gives you the necessary non-technical introductory information to start on this platform to become a successful Steemian.

Here you go.

  1. What is Steemit ?
Steemit is a social media platform like facebook, twitter etc. It rewards you for posting blogs on it. It also rewards you for commenting and voting on blogs posted by others. It is decentralized and based on blockchain. It uses a cryptocurrency called Steem to reward the users.

  2. Do I need to pay to become a Steemit user?
No. Posting, commenting and upvoting is 100% free.

  3. What is meant by upvoting a post?
It’s like a facebook “Like”. When you like a post or comment, you upvote it. To upvote, click "encircled inverted V" present at the bottom of a post/comment.

  4. What is meant by commenting on a post?
Again it’s like a facebook “Comment”. To comment, click on “Reply” link present at the bottom of a post/comment. You may comment on a post; or comment on a comment on the post or comment…In this way you will participate in the discussion and get connected with other users.

  5. How can I make money on Steemit?
You can make money on Steemit in two ways:
    i. As an Author: By writing quality blogs.
ii. As a Curator: By upvoting and commenting on posts.

  6. What concrete do I need to do to earn on this platform?
    i. Spare at least 45 minutes a day for Steemit.
ii. Post at least one quality article every day.
iii. Read as many possible trending posts. Read at least ten articles every day.
iv. Comment in at least ten articles every day.
    v. Follow “whales” i.e. consistently trending authors.

Stay tuned for my post detailing about other aspects of Steemit. Of course in the simplest of way possible. 
