Hello steemian, Hope you're doing great here, thanks for the upvote and comment.
Every year, many students are expelled from our higher institutions for engaging in one form of examination malpractices or the other, this untimely and premature graduation of students continue to occur in spite of the orientation organised every session to enlighten students on the consequences of involving in this gruesome behaviour.
Looking at the menace from religion perspective which condemned the act saying that students should desist from it to avoid God's wrath. Despite all these efforts and action of the school authority to salvage the ugly trend, many students still throw caution to the wind.
Exam Malpractice has been defined as a deliberate wrong doing contrary to examination rules designed to place a candidate at an unfair advantage. it is an illegal behaviour by a candidate before, during or after the cheaply. Hence the worth of examination is violated and the goal defeated.
Exam malpractice has been identified as one of the factors responsible for the steady decline in the standard of education in our country. It is a canter worm that has eaten deep into the fabric of the society at large. it has consistently remained a bane on education system in Nigeria. it portrays great danger for the nation.
This ruthlessship called examination malpractices whose destination is self destruction poses threat to the survival and sustainability of good and quality education, half baked, incompetent and corrupt work force and quacks.
Many graduate of our higher institutions lack the mental skills and knowledge required by employers to function effectively, hence, the rate of unemployed graduates in the country. Many graduate under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme were unable to perform their duties as they cannot teach at little nursery class pupils. What a shame! What a national embarrassement! This is not different from one higher institutions to another in Nigeria. Many people parade certificate without knowledge.
To make situation worse, the menace seems incurable because virtually all citizens in one way or the other are involved in this educational threat. This disease has eaten deep at all levels down to primary school level. Evident shows that most students who engage in examination malpractices at higher institutions are usually those that have colourful results in their Senior school certificate examination (SSCE) and high scores in Jamb/Utme results. what a contradiction!.
Examination malpractices manifest in different ways ranging from smuggling of answer sheets into exam hall, leakage of question paper before exams, begging lecturers for scores or sorting, use of phones, sleeping with lecturers for scores, impersonation of use of machinery syndrome, among others.
The primary causes of exams malpractices can be linked to the steady decline in reading culture among students and growing interest in the social media, watching movies for long hours and playing games even during lectures. Others include laziness of students, inadequate parent control and preparation, dependant on fraudulent means to make it without hard work, following trends of using what you have to get what you want syndrome especially among female students, corrupt parents and lecturers. All these are responsible for students penchant to cheat in examination and they are not always prepared for them.
The effect of this cannot be over emphasised as creativity and resourcefulness are hampered to economy and political lives of the country. It must be totally eradicated from the society as its effects on the socio economic development of the nation can be catastrophic.. Be that, all hope is not lose at some higher institutions still maintain zero tolerance for examination malpractices in the churn out competent graduates to compete favourably in the labour market. .
However, solution is a bit possible when every Hands is joined in a bid to forestall the problem. it always painful for hardworking students to see their effort going unappreciated because of the activities of few individuals who gain unfair advantage by engaging in exam malpractice. Students should know that those that enter through the window must be thrown out through the window.
A step taken now will go along way to determine the future of the country, since the youth are the leaders of tomorrow. Let's work together to sanitised our educational system let's save our country. we can do it remember it begins with you.
