When im home and my children say to me that the internet is slow and wont load there browser pages or social media. I think to myself back in the day of dial-up, when i was with compuserve u had to dial the company up and wait to be connected before u did anything. The speed of the connection was only 56kbps at the best of times.
If you wanted to use the phone to ring someone while on the internet you had to get a second phone line.
This got me thinking...
The childen of today live in a instant world. Where there is instant coffee, instant messaging and instant food as well as lots of other things. They expect it to be and find waiting for things hard. The older children even text me from upstairs to ask what is for dinner. This is the new generation. Technology is a brilliant advancement but it can take away social interaction if you let it. We have a rule of no phones or ipads at the table when eating meals. Atleast then we can have face to face conversations instead of them watching youtube videos or browsing their messages.
But its funny the two younger ones love to play outside with their friends rain or shine. They would rather play on the bikes or scooters than stay in and watch t.v.
We have encouraged them to play with toys and use there imagination to have fun.
I read an article the other day where some children have access to ipads at an early age and have not been taught how to play. So when they go to nursury they dont know how to interact with the toys and have to be educated in that matter.
I think you appreciate the instant world more when you didnt have it when you were growing up. Back in the day.
