First off, I love Steemit. I love the concept and the platform. It just could be SO MUCH BETTER.
I have bought Steem 3 times (about 300 steem) and added it to the platform, and will continue to do so. Not because I think Steemit is 'there' already, but because it definitely has the potential to be, and that potential can be realized quickly and by changing only ONE thing.
And the thing is, most of you already know EXACTLY what I am about to say. THINK ABOUT THAT!
And the answer, to make it so that an account can not vote for itself.
That 1 simple change would make this place what everyone has envisioned. That 1 simple change would have the most amazing rippling effects. This place would become even more beautiful!
Investors and other people with Steem who are not content creators could invest in content creators and get a return on their steem that way.
Investors with a lot of steem will be much happier if mass adoption happens, far outweighing the nonstop self-voting spree.
The tipping point very well could be the self -voting option.
Taking it away would:
- Increase the # of votes given to other accounts, thus putting more value on content creation
- Increase the quality and length of post discussion (this is the biggest problem from allowing self-voting imo)
- Deeper connections will develop, and strengthen the community even more
- Allow for more investment and biz opportunities in quality content creators, improving the avg quality of content
- Create an environment that reflected even more love and enabled even more creativity than it does now.
I really believe this one simple change would be good for everyone in the long-term.
So, what do you think?!
Don't forget........I LOVE Steemit!

How would the monetary aspect have an impact on the length of a thread?
People that give themselves a self-vote in the comments section of one of my articles, usually won't be upvoted by myself which means that they lose up to $1.00 which is currently equivalent to my 100% vote. I also explain my decision to them like "I won't upvote your comment because you already did.". That's my way of showing people different options and teaching them to be more pro-community. I think that's much better than completely banning the self-vote-option.

Many people right now just make comments so they can vote for them, not to add value to the thread. When you take this option away, it makes contributing to the thread the only reason for posting.
