The silver lining... You cant buy this kind of Publicity.

Fridays are generally slower for on site traffic.

Even on good days since the jump in STEEM market cap, we have around 250 - 300 users on site simultaneously.

Earlier today we were peaking at over 500 simultaneous users, that's almost double!!!! and on a Friday.

...and here is the cause.

these are just a couple of the many....

PLEASE NOTE: the diversity of sites featuring the news, and as they say in the classics...

There is no such thing as bad publicity

It shows in the "active users on site" stats.

It may be news about a hacking which isn't positive but the quick response is highlighted and more importantly it is driving traffic to the steemit website from a far more diverse set of news sites.

I'm going to be interested to see what the sign up statistics look like tomorrow.

Thanks Hacker. $85 000 could not have bought this diverse kind of publicity.

...and nobody has coins to seriously dump when bittrex reopens the wallets!!!

The price is slightly decreasing in Bittrex tho.. I think people are getting out of it, but since Whales won't we will be fine!

What difference does a temporary price spike on an external exchange make? It's a short term blip and in the long term this news is giving more publicity to steemit as a whole. You can't buy this kind of publicity/visibility for $85,000, like the original post said.

Crypto Markets are a weird place - this will be forgotten next week. This site has huge potential for the average internet user and not just crypto junkie

All many people will remember is that there is a site that pays you to post.... and that it must be "real money" if hackers are trying to hack it.

So does this make it a good day for me to have made my first post? Hmmm

Any day is a good day to get started

The key here is to save for the long term. Sure, the price of Steem will fluctuate, but those who persevere and don't jump ship will be rewarded in the end.

That's what building up and holding on to Steem Power is all about.

Absolutely

This coin is going into the billions for sure.... and what you suggest is what we all should plan to do.

sometimes i find a post that i just want to reward everyone for participating in the discussion. this is one of them.

Thanks gavvet and i'll gladly follow you to see what else you post!

If you ever post something you think is more "human interest" and/or "blockchain based amazingness" please feel free to add a #beyondbitcoin tag to it so it is easier for me to find and I will consider upvoting it too (as long as it is good content of course!)

Sure thing.

Thanks @fuzzyvest and if you don't mind I'll be reaching out with that tag, I see a huge future here

I'm very curious to see where this will go, great to see more users coming in!

check out http://steemle.com/charts tomorrow and look at the new sign ups. that will confirm for sure.

This hack is nothing compared to theDAO hack and yes there always is a silver lining..

Possibly even a solid gold one in this case

Interesting to see how people react to bad news.

we had only a half day when signing up was available, so we will see what the figures for the whole week-end average out too.

Well, i found about steem and steemit thanks to the boom in the cryptocurrency market, the day after it was hacked but that didn't discouraged me. And as you just said, this was a 85k worth of publicity, as long as these kind of things get covered in the media, more and more people will come and take part in the community, in the long term that loss could become a great win

Thanks, for sharing. We will see tomorrow how many more there are of you.

tons i hope.. If you don't mind i ask, where can i see how many people is online?

you can't yet, I have access to the google analytics

Exellent, fantastic information!

Glad you liked it!

So true! There really is no such thing as bad publicity. Especially when an entity is as new as Steemit. For some it was the first they had heard of it and for others a validation that it merits checking out.
This post was a good reminder of that. Thanks!

always a pleasure

It is incredible how quickly the media will latch onto a 'hack' story and pump it to death. An $85k theft on a brand-new $300M crypto platform is more like a pat on the back than slap on the wrist. Moreover, it gave the world the opportunity to see how the dev team would respond to a crisis - and they were efficient, effective and professional in addressing all issues. Steem on!

I agree, anybody in this space knows that and the coverage is good in the end

Yes this has gotten a lot of publicity and I am glad that this happened sooner than later so we can all get back on track.

it has made the platform stronger and more people security conscious that's for sure

Cool)
