IN WHICH LANGUAGE ARE YOU WRITTEN YOUR POSTS? ENGLISH OR YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE?

If your native language is not English, you might be wondering whether you should write your posts in English, or in your own language.

It’s an interesting situation when you are able to speak and write in more than one language and you need to decide which one will be for posting.

In my case, always running short in time, it’s impossible to translate every single post in English and Spanish (my native language). I am even struggling to find time to write just one simple post a day. Writing in more than one language is more time-consuming and potentially leaves you with less time for other activities.

Which are the more common questions most bloggers have before to write a post? (It’s not about what language should I write the post)

  • What to write about?
  • What name to give to the post?

But if you are a bilingual speaker, first of all, you will need to decide what’s the main language for your post. And sometimes it’s not an easy decision.

Although lot of people can understand English, they are not able to express themselves in it.

Let’s see pros and cons writing in English instead of your native language.

  • First and foremost you feel more secure in your own language when it comes to communication. You will be more likely to avoid misunderstanding and the words would flow more easily as you will have a better grip of local sayings.

  • When writing in your own language your target group will be smaller, than writing in a global language like English. This is one of the main reason why no English native speakers we finally chose English.

And Steemit is all about expressing yourself: writing about your life, travels, ideas, hobbies etc.
A high percentage of Steemit posts are in English and the trending + hot ones are all in English.

  • The competition, on the other hand, will be much lower if you choose to write in your own language and probably you will find easily a free niche.

Sincerely, we are all here because we can earn money posting and commenting other posts, so… I chose to write my posts in English in order to attract a larger audience. Even if I am taking double time to write them :)

The Steemit community is growing and lots of posts are now written in other languages rather than English.

Let’s continue this trend and give the opportunity to other people here on Steemit to write posts on their native language!

i think it depends on what you're trying to accomplish, exactly like what you said. if you want to become a bigger influence in the spanish community for example, you definitely need to do more posts in spanish. but then again, how big is that community, and are they active? would it be worth it to dedicate your time to do all your posts in both languages? so many questions :)

We are trying to establish a Czech community but it goes slower than I would expect. So currently i use English mainly.

One good thing about the smaller communities is that if you are one who starts posting in Czech for instance... probably you would have more chance to get more followers :)

Not likely, surprisingly. Altough we are one of the most advanced nations in the attitude to cryptocurrencies, we are not into Steemit so much. I guess that most of my fellows wait till somebody makes a Czech localization.

English for me. Sometimes I translate the foreign language articles on google if they look interesting, but the image has to hook me or there isn't much point in me clicking into something I can't read. Cheers

Hahaha.. good point with the images... they play an important game!

exactly, but in addition writing in English (when not main language) you improve both your writing and speaking in English.
So ive chosen English comments ;)

You are right!! I think it's about timing.. For me it's not easy to write in English..

I think it depends on the audience that you are trying to reach, if it will be all the people on the world it has to be in english, if it will be on your country only then your native languaje, and so on...

In my opinion, it would be nice to use a global language that is english.
Because everyone finds it hard to understand when using a language other than English.
I think so !!

Good post, i have the same dilemma.

Mostly in my native language spanish in my case, some times in english.
