I can't really decide if this is positive news or not. But let's get to the facts.
Appics have been around for several years now, 2 at least. During this time, they have struggled to find any business model which brings them any sort of real revenue, let alone contribute to any purchasing power of STEEM, themselves as a business, or their "user base."
As before, delegations from Steemit Inc. should be handed out with the intention and use towards fostering potentially high growth projects that do not intend to contend for the reward pool as part of their revenue, much less being composed entirely of revenue from reward pool. In the medium to long term, it is only a sign that the project is under performing and isn't bringing any value to the space.
For some reason, I don't see anybody pointing out the fact that Appics ran an ICO and collected over $4 million dollars. Given how important it is that they have a significant amount of SP for the purpose of onboarding, as well as user onboarding and retention, surely allocating 170,000 usd of those 4,000,000 usd (less than 5% of their warchest) would be the very least that they could do? After-all, isn't the point of an ICO to raise funds for them to spend in mission critical elements of their project? Having enough SP to sustain their purported mass user base of influencers and their followers on the cusp of joining STEEM but inhibited by their paltry "support" from Steem Inc, is surely one of the highest priorities for directing funds to. Would you not agree?
I wonder then, what exactly cost them 4 million US dollars, that after only around 2 years, other projects with far less funding (if any at all) have built far more extensive apps—esteem to name but one—would lead them to even need to ask for delegation and pretend like they don't have the funds themselves? Could it be that the team embezzled themselves with the proceeds of the 4 million usd, chucking a bone at some developers to cook up plausible mvp whilst gorging themselves with the majority of the rest of the "development" fund? Where does this story sound familiar?
This, all the while attempting to flex on other social media like they're some big time entrepreneurs living the high life bringing in top dollar in their business.
Something tells me they're out of cash, or they're too committed to spending whatever's left of those 4 million dollars on sustaining their own raucous and decadent lifestyles and they realise that 4 million dollars between a cohort isn't actually very much. Especially when "business" requires you to purchase 10,000 dollar handbags, and stay at luxury hotels, day in day out.
But you know, faking it until you make it is thing. And I suppose you have to pay to play if you want to attract the attention of people with actual influence am I rite?
Take this HUGE influencer we have right here. He's not a Zac Efron that's for sure, but we'll take whatever we can get right?
... All 1262 instagram followers if possible.. (HUUUUGE)!
I wonder what other mega influential people are now going to join? They must all be queuing up for their official accounts, eagerly looking for those 15 dollar votes everyday cause it's "good money" and obviously way more preferred than posting to a platform where potentially millions of people will actually see and engage with them.. perhaps not.
BUT WE GOT PICS WITH ZAC EFRON.
WE GOT 83k followers on tiktok (but less than 10 comments on any of our videos)!!!!
Well. Now that the delegation is out, we'll see what happens.
