Is There Such a Thing As A Safe Bomb? Yes, Paradoxical but Possible!

Modern warfare like drone attacks, carpet bombing, and air strikes to target terrorists has escalated human suffering. Such strikes regardless of the precision and cutting edge technology used, are causing innocent families residing in the area to lose their homes, livelihood, and lives. Cities where terrorists’ footprints have been detected have lost their infrastructure, historical landmarks, and libraries due to the constant bombardment in an effort to destroy terrorists’ camps.
Pondering over this issue, I had an idea that I wanted to share with you and have your take on this. So what’s the idea? It might seem far-fetched, unbelievable, and even too good to be true, but I still want to put it out there to see if it can really take off. Please feel free to voice your thoughts whether you even entertain it or not….. May be something better might come out with our collaborative discourse and feedback.
So here is the idea that sprang to my imagination; Nations spend billions of dollars in harnessing the scientific and technical expertise of specialists to make the most lethal and destructive bombs. Why can’t that money and resources be spent on making the safest bombs that get the job done without causing any destruction. You might be wondering what kind of a bomb might be safe? It’s a paradoxical term! What could be considered a safe bomb? Well, to me a safe bomb is very conceivable. An example of such a bomb is a “ Sleep Bomb.” With all the cutting edge technology and scientific knowledge floating around, money and expertise can be poured into creating Sleep Bombs that only induce intense sleep in the targeted area. Once the bomb is launched, everyone in the vicinity sleeps instantly. Boots get on the ground, take the all the sleeping terrorists in custody and voila, the operation is over without any destruction!
If these “Sleep Bombs” do get made, some still might question their success. Let’s do a comparison between the traditional destructive bombs and the safe Sleep Bombs

Let’s first see how the two are alike in some ways.

The success of both depend on:

  • High quality intelligence to detect terrorists’ whereabouts.
  • Ultimate secrecy in order to launch a successful attack.
  • Both rely on accurate timing in order for the operation to be successful.

Now let’s see how they are different.

  • Traditional bombs often cause a lot of human injuries and property damage in the vicinity even if successful in killing the target, whereas Sleep Bombs will cause no damage to life and property in both win or lose situations.
  • Traditional Bombs mostly yield dead targets, where as Sleep Bombs will allow the capture of living targets.
So this was my take on this whole new idea of warfare. I’m looking forward to hearing from you…!

The thing is that even if you agree to use sleep bombs you cannot be certain your adversary won't either. Then, it can also be the case that gas-masks can be used which would render sleepbombs pretty much useless. I think it wouldn't even be that hard to make a sleepbomb.
Good idea tho, just think that others may not be so peaceful.

Yes, but a unique sleep bomb with a secret formula may render ordinary gas mask useless. It would require a special type of a mask that requires the same secret technology used in making the bomb. This is where science , technology, and secracy should play a role to make one of a kind sleep bomb that is highly unique and therefore requires a very special mask or gear to stay gas proof....

While a sleep bomb would be a nice idea, why not a different way of identifying targets. I think a better use of intelligence should be to monitor the environs of potential targets...
I know we all say "thank you for your service" to our Men and Women out there serving our needs, but do they ever say that statement to each other? No; simply we thank them for their service since it means we do not have to go and do what they sometimes have to do.
I do not say this to be disrespectful of their Service nor Duty, but to point out; most of these service personnel are "on the college program". How many young people would sign up if the Government gave them a written guarantee like this; 'after four years service, we will publicly thank you and then execute you'...
I mean these young people are prepared to serve and understand that sometimes they will be placed in the way of severe threats to their life and liberty, but ultimately they expect to serve and move onto other things in civilian life...
Boots on the ground sounds great except there are always to many unknown factors and risks associated with such actions, better to identify targets; validate they are legitimate targets and the best way to kill or neutralize them without damage to surrounding environs.
It is better to let one live target go free instead of accepting the deaths of one collateral damage unintended target.
Simply profile the best way to find, confirm the target and use whatever force that achieves the mission without risking other lives nor damages important infrastructure...
