Some Steemit Ideas

in steemit •  7 years ago

My coworker and friend @cesarvalencia and I were working in the junk yard the other day “throwing out a bunch of junk” as he likes to call it and were talking about Steem. He started asking some pretty interesting questions that got me thinking about Steemit and the cool features that it might have in the future. Unless of course there are ways to do these things now that I’m not yet savvy enough to know about.

(Way back when I used to rock climb too!)

He’s trying to figure out a way to make enough money online to travel in his van and go rock climbing which is his passion. Nothing fancy just a low key life that he doesn’t need too much money for but that can provide him with enough financial support to live well and travel. A dream that many of us want I’d say. Anyways he’s starting a little online gear shop and we were talking about all the ways to boost its presence on social media. Of course we started talking about Steem which we are both really excited about being a part of.

He asked if there were any ads like Facebook ads on Steem and I told him that there weren’t any that I know of other than just posting like you would any blog post. And he said, “Well I’m surprised the people who run Steem haven’t started that to make a bunch of money!”

I laughed. “You and I run Steem!” I told him. The holders of Steem who write and post and comment and keep it going are the people who “run Steemit.” Sure there are the people who started it and the people who curate (I don’t exactly understand how that works but…). I started thinking about it and it would be pretty cool if you could pay SBD to post an ad and that money got thrown back into the pot and redistributed to all of us. Maybe I’m over-simplifying or under-simplifying, Steemit isn’t exactly the easiest thing to understand or explain but it seemed like a pretty cool idea to me.

(somewhere on a road trip but made me think of ideas…)

On the topic of “Ideas for Steemit” I started thinking some more and got really psyched about being able to have a bunch of drafts that you could time to be posted. I generally spend all day Wednesdays on Steem and a word processor writing up all my posts for the week and then each day I have to copy and paste them from the word processor into the posting page and then add each of the pictures individually. I would love to be able to write them all up and have them saved as drafts on Steemit with the option for them each to “go live” when I schedule them too. Maybe some people would hate this idea but it would be a great time saver for me. ( :

Gosh I’m sure if I sat here long enough I could continue to come up with idea after idea but I’ll leave it at that for now. What are your thoughts? What would you like to see happen with Steemit in the future? What visions do you have? What would make things easier on you here? And am I totally wrong in some of my understandings and thinking? If so, help a sister out!

‘Till next time,
Jay Jay

I can't be 100% but I believe you can do draft postings using Busy.org now. I'm not very certain if they let you schedule but parts of me believe it does.

Also I like you idea on improving the ads experience. I think that is what's missing for Steem's price is a very easy to use and pay for ad system that burns the Steem that is paid to promote.

I'll have to check out busy.org ... I wish it was integrated into the Steemit platform itself though because going all over the place to different platforms for things is something that makes things a little bit more clunky in my mind ( :

Thanks JayJay! Psyched to keep learning about Steem. I'll start playing with the Promote button and let you know how it goes :)

Steemit actually has an "add like" function. It's that green PROMOTE button a the bottom of each post just above Facebook, Twitter... icons. You pay to get your post promoted. And as far as i know, views and clicks burn the amount you invested in promotion.

I would also love to see the "draft" option ... :)

Interesting! I guess I never tried the Promote button, wonder how much it actually works. Any experience with it? I'll have to tell Cesar about that. ( :

The draft and scheduling would be amazing features to have right here on steemit. It would make my life so much easier too.

Glad I've got consensus on that from three other people ( :
I'm sure there are others... wonder who we bring it up to... a curator perhaps? I wish I knew how to code and could just whip that up haha
