Hi fellow Steemians, I love the concept of Steem, but have no clue what I am doing :) Could Steem be the way of the future? If so, I intend to be here for the ride. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Sounds like twitter may have de linked wikileaks toward the end of 2016. I think block chain social media provides more resielience an protection to the voices of the 4th estate.
