"How do we reconcile anguish and suffering with the Bible's portrayal of a loving God?"
This is simple: because the 'God' of the Bible is not a loving God, but a jealous, warmongering, ecocidal, misogynistic , homophobic control freak. Why? because the mindsets which thought him up were the same and he is simply representing their same attitudes!
