Some Morning Steemit Thoughts + Some Steemit Questions

in steemit •  7 years ago

So I've been trying really hard to onboard my friends to this platform lately. So many people I know make great music, take great photos, do amazing art, or write about whatever they're passionate about. I see an opportunity for them here - I know they could incorporate themselves into the community, and bring good content to the site.

When I tell them about Steemit, they're generally confused and curious. "You can make money? Real money?" My answer is generally: "Well, yes, but only if you work really hard to understand cryptocurrencies and the innerworkings of the website, create good content, and insert yourself into the community".

The first point is a problem all on its own. It is real money, but it's crypto, and that is difficult for many to grasp. I generally tell my friends that Steem only has value because people say it does (just like any money, really), and because of the elements of the technology, investment in the coin, scarcity, and trading on the markets. It's a lot for newcomers to take in, and it is very difficult to make people truly feel like they could even possibly navigate the crypto landscape correctly and end up with funds in their bank account.

After you learn about why the fuck any of these coins have value, you get to learn about how the fuck Steemit works (yaaaaaay)! Post rewards (why are my numbers changing all the time?), curation and curation awards (why isn't anyone seeing my posts and why are voters getting part of my rewards?), dtube, dsound, and dapps (which do I use?), contests, and so much more. It takes some serious dedication here to iron all of this out and make sense of the chaos. I think some of them could do it, and want to, I just dont know if they will.

Despite some of the difficulties of getting started here, I've still been recommending Steemit to tons of people. The way I see it, blockchain, crypto, and these kinds of sites are the future of the internet. The more people get into to this stuff early, the more they can potentially prosper in the future. I won't let the steep learning curve and looking like a total nerd stop me from promoting this crazy platform :)

Now, some recent Steemit questions I have:

1.Why did the rewards system change?

IMG_3255.PNG

I noticed that we are getting regular liquid Steem in addition to Steem Power and Steem Dollars from posts now! Wasn't it just SP and SBD before? I was curious what changed.

2.Delegation

If I delegate SP to a user, do the curation rewards from my delegated SP go to them or to me? Or do we split the curation rewards? I've been curious about how that whole system works. Been thinking about delegating some to @openmic or @curie lately regardless :)

3.When does ONO get English support? Anyone know?

IMG_3256.PNG

I downloaded the ONO iPhone app from https://www.ono.chat the other day, only to find out it is exclusively in Chinese (Korean? I don't know). I'm wondering if we know when this app will get released in English, I want to jump right on the bandwagon when it does. Why choose one decentralized media site when we could post on both, right?

Thanks for stopping by, and if you have a minute, help a noob out by leaving an answer to one or more of these questions in the comments section :)

Until next time!

Dude I’m trying to get in early on that ONO platform as well, wanna be an early adopter with it since I was 1.5-2 years late on Steemit. The payouts change to include Steem as well as SBD and SP when the price of Steem drops too low (like around 2.50 or lower). The lower the price of Steem drops, the more Steem you will earn in your payouts longwise your SBD and SP.

Same man, I hope we get some updates soon on the english ONO app! Would be sweet if you could change the language but obviously... can't read the option for that if there is one x) And thanks for the answer, that's pretty interesting. That must be to incentivize usage of Steem while its at a low price then? If it gets all the way down to $2 and my bank account says I can, I might buy some anyways 😎

Haha same man, wish I could read Chinese right about now, but I also don’t think it’s open for registrations right now, right? Yup, bought some Steem last time it was down below 1.50

Epic bro! Thanks for keeping me in the loop. That's only 3 weeks away!
