At the end of this working week inhabitants of the earth will be able to watch the most powerful "meteor rain" over the past 12 years, told RNS Stanislav Short, scientific director of the observatory, "Ka-gift."

Every August the inhabitants of the northern hemisphere are watching the Perseids - the meteor stream generated by the comet Swift-Tuttle, which makes a revolution around the sun for 130 years. The particles that were previously in the tail of a comet, fall at high speed into the Earth's atmosphere and burn up in it, that the observer sees the effect of "shooting star."

"Every 12 years a comet passes close to the planet Jupiter, which is its attraction deflects the stream toward the Earth. 2016 turned out to be like this, so this would be an unusually starry August, "- said Stanislav Short RNS.

The greatest activity of the meteor shower will show on the night of 11 on August 12th around midnight and before dawn, Moscow time. According to Short, the researchers predict that the number of meteors in this period can be up to 200 per hour.

For more qualitative observations expert advises to leave at least 100 kilometers from major cities and 40-50 km from the small to the sky was clear and artificial light sources as small as possible. Meteor rain will be easier to see the residents of the southern regions as Crimea and the Caucasus, but it can also be observed in the middle lane.

Very interesting. I always like to watch meteor showers so thanks for reminding me

We need no clouds. I hope to see meteor show.

Just get a cheap telescope and you can see them if you live in rural area then you might even see them with naked eye.

Hmm. May be it would be great to make a foto of sky with long-long delay -- 10 or 20 minutes.

Clear Skies!

I read somewhere that it's on the night of 11th, morning of 12th that we'll see the most. Can anyone confirm?

I have always wanted to see a meteor shower but I am in the southern hemisphere. Will I be able to see this ?
