"Not putting yourself first is a disservice to yourself, your family and the world of the highest order".
This is a life lesson that I learned a long time ago but still proves difficult to put in to daily practice even now years later.
With all the 'good' advice sources in the world telling you things like, "Treat others how you want to be treated"
and "If you help enough people get what they want, you'll end up getting what you want". While these are great quotes for certain life situations, I have to throw out some more real world fatherly advice for the vast majority of foundation principals one should rely on to help guild themselves through life's struggles and adversities.
I say this not from a selfish standpoint but quite the opposite.
Now, being closer to my mid-life then I am to my teenage years and having two awesome little boys, I can say without a doubt that not putting yourself first is a disservice to yourself, your family and the world of the highest order.
I'm sure there will be some that will not like &/or agree with what I am saying but, that's okay.
I mean, on the surface of the statement it goes against a lot of teachings of the world today but, you may find that it is not as self-centered of a statement as one may think.
"You can't save anyone from drowning if you're under water yourself"
There is much truth to that statement but to take it a step further, I prefer,
You cannot help others become the best version of themselves' unless you are or are at least on the path to becoming the best version of yourself that you can be.
Putting yourself first gives you the best chance of helping as many others do and be great.
IMO, if I did not get myself ready in the mornings before I helped my two sons get ready for their day(s), it would be complete chaos around my house. More so then it already is. Someone is always missing a shoe or something. Seriously, why are the two dang shoes not in the same place? Like ever?!
So just a little bit of wisdom from someone that has to remind himself often.
It is easy to understand but can prove difficult to stay on top of,
Put Yourself First.
