The Domino Effect
The World Record for a domino fall was 4,491,863 dominos in an amazing display. In this instance, a single domino set in motion generated a fall that toppled over the other 4,491,862 dominos in the sequence. This equated to 94,000 joules of energy, enough to do 545 push-ups.
Geometric Progression
Lorne Whitehead wrote in the American journal of physics, not only could dominos topple many things, they could topple bigger things. Up to 50% larger to be exact. But what does this mean? This is known as geometric progression. With a starting domino of 2 inches and increasing in size by 50% each time, the 2nd domino would be 3 inches tall, the 3rd 4.5 inches tall and so forth. By the 10th domino we are looking at a domino over 6ft tall! By the 18th domino we are looking at a size similar to The Leaning Tower of Pisa. 23rd: Eiffel tower, 31st: mount Everest. Domino number 57 would bridge the gap between the Earth and the Moon! You get the idea. Dominos of this magnitude can eventually topple from the push of a 2 inch domino! Yes Luppers, but what does this mean for me?
Applying this Principle
Getting extraordinary results is about recreating this domino effect in your life. Take a step back and look back on your life for a moment. Where have you witnessed this domino effect? What one thing did you start and gradually you improved until you couldn't miss it in your every day life? Think of the time when you started learning an instrument and gradually improved until you could sight read with ease. Think of the first time you kicked a football and then you could score from a free-kick. Think of the time when you struggled to read and now can speed read. These are all examples of knocking down that first domino which can lead into knocking over a much larger domino! If not, try to find a lead domino and whack away until it falls and see where it can take you. By simply taking action this can give you the motivation for greater success. The key is that these dominos will fall over time, have patience.
Thank you for reading, I hope this brought some valuable knowledge and awareness to you!
Reflective Questions:
- Did this help and bring value to you?
- Can you relate to any examples of this in your life?
- How can I improve for next time?
- What would you like to learn about next?
