Steemit has undoubtedly provided one of the most intriguing and valuable platforms using which you can avail the maximum worth of your writing. You can easily make a good amount of digital currency by writing a blog post on any topic that interests you and is liked and upvoted by others in the community. But as is with almost everything in our controversial and ironic world, the purpose of this platform has also become conflicted.
The primary goal behind this venture was to let people share content over things they are passionate about and be able to make something off of the hard work they pour into writing a blog post that can float the boat of many. People have, however, looked past interests, hobbies, and expertise, and began to think of it as a business more than anything else.
EARNINGS OVER QUALITY
If you were to visit the homepage of the Steemit.com website, you will automatically be greeted with the overall ‘trending’ blog posts list. This list comprises of the posts that are being viewed and commented on frequently and are generating the most revenue. You will also see tabs at the top of the column which will allow you to sift through the ‘new’ and the ‘hot’ categories as well.
Overall, you will notice the general trend that most of the blog posts in each of the categories will belong to the same theme: Steemit and cryptocurrency. These are the topics that generate the most traffic and people have now taken to writing about these topics regardless of whether or not they possess any kind of knowledge or expertise on that subject. As such, it is resulting in a great decrease in the quality of the content on Steemit yet these blogs often get the most traffic. This is discouraging for those who are producing quality content in other categories.
QUALITY CONTROL
There is a need for quality checks which would require an expert from Steemit to judge whether the content should or should not be published in the desired category. The content should be required to display a certain degree of expertise in order to be posted for all to see and for revenue to be generated. Otherwise, this puts those people at a great disadvantage who are writing very well about their interests but are unable to gain sufficient exposure, deterring them from the platform altogether.
ENCOURAGEMENT FOR ALL
Steemit should try to figure out a way using which they can give equal opportunities to all kinds of content to be featured at the top of the pile so everyone and every category can get equal exposure. Instead of arranging the tags in the column in terms of preference or any other criteria, a non-biased method should be employed, such as arranging them in alphabetical order.
It would also be helpful to group certain tags into broader categories to ensure that visitors and readers do not find it tedious to browse the tags and view a category. For example, tags such as ‘life’, ‘love’, ‘health’, and ‘story’ can come under the broader heading of ‘health & lifestyle’. Such segregation will help visitors to access the tags much more easily and frequently.
So does anyone have anything to say about the above? Are there already methods of doing the above that I have missed? Do you have any ideas for improving the platform? Please post your answers in the comments. Thanks!
