Creating A Crypto Utopia - Announcing STEEMIT CITY

in steemit •  9 years ago

Become a part of one of the most ambitious projects seen on Steemit so far.

Imagine a place where everyone is welcome. Visa rules are so loose that almost every single nationality can enter, no questions asked. A place where food is cheap and plentiful and can be paid for with your own steemdollars, or any other cryptocurrency! A place where rules and regulations are practically non-existent and the local population is more friendly than Thailand!

Imagine, Steemit City!

A location in South-East Asia, where you can live off steemdollars or other crytocurrency, surrounded by other crypto-minded individuals. The ultimate form of lean and dynamic startup, where everyone can work on projects together or by themselves. From developers to graphic artists and project managers. We'll need all kinds of people to make this huge undertaking a reality.

What is the plan?

  • Create a community of steemit users working together on different projects
  • Work together on the future of the platform by building apps and marketplaces
  • Create the first crypto city in the Asia, where everything can be paid for with cryptocurrencies
  • Slowly evolve in to a hub of technology and arts in the whole of Asia
  • Become a self-sustaining and open-source community with all the resources needed for development teams
  • Integrate crypto into the everyday life of stores and merchants in Asia
  • Become a destination for crypto enthusiasts to meet others and have a great time working on related projects
  • Provide an employment opportunity for Cambodians across a wide range of markets
  • Create a safe haven for developers and crypto-anarchist to be free from government control

Why do this in Cambodia?

Cambodia is one of the easiest places to get a visa for. Almost every single nationality can get in without any hassle. It's as easy as showing up at one of the airports or border crossings and buying a visa.
An ordinary (non-tourist) visa costs a mere $35 a month and can be extended indefinitely! A 12-month visa costs you between $260-$320, depending on the agent you use.

Our Grand Vision of a Functioning Crypto-Utopia

PHASE 1:

The idea is to bootstrap this project. Starting with a small core group of people who are dedicated to make this a reality. We'll begin with renting a small 5-to-8 bedroom villa and turn it into a co-working space for the core development team. The network connection will be small at first, with at least 3 different ISP's connected to a high-speed LAN. Enough to work comfortably with 4-8 people. We'll setup our own servers to start a mining operation in the villa. Other server resources will be used for setting up projects such as Dash masternodes, Bitshares delegates, or any other crypto related opportunity that might pop up at that time.

This phase will require the participants to pay a monthly fee of around $300. The costs of the accommodation, electricity, and internet will be covered by this. We'll also get our own staff to buy and prepare food for us.

Pre-requisites:

  • Before we can start renting a villa and installing the network and equipment, we'll need at least $10000 in capital.
  • Two more community members to come over to Steemit City to make this project a reality.
  • Develop a system for easy payments with Steem Dollars (or other crypto) for all the inhabitants of the fledgling Steemit City.
  • A backup generator to combat the frequent power cuts in Cambodia.

PHASE 2:

Phase 2 is all about growth hacking and expanding the projects and teams. We'll do this by renting a whole hotel for Steem City. If you think this is too expensive, think again. Siem Reap is a tourist place with a huge real estate bubble. Investors have been building hotels here without proper planning and marketing. As a result you can find 10-15 room hotels for less then $3000 a month.

Pre-requisites:

  • The capital that we'll need to start the second phase amounts to $50000.
  • Manpower to strengthen the development and project teams to around 10-15 people.
  • Order a dedicated internet line of at least 100MB.
  • Integrate solar panels in the building to cut the cost of the electricity

PHASE 3:

This is the proper utopia phase. Here we would have earned, or crowdsourced, enough funds to build our very own building complex. Becoming a self-sustaining community in a complete crypto-enabled environment. Wild ideas of a hydroponics farm, windmills, and our own market where everything can be paid for with Steem dollars are floating around. Before we can even start thinking about this phase, we'll need sufficient funds and a huge team.

Pre-requisites:

  • We'll need at least $500000 in liquidity (not Steem power!)
  • Expand the community to 20-40 people
  • Order fully redundant 1GB lines
  • Create our own datacenter by clustering raspberry pi's or similar hardware
  • Site that can easily house 50-1OO people
  • Government approval and support

What kind of projects are in the pipeline?

  • Integration of network projects on the Steem blockchain (VPN, DNS)
  • Create a framework for the development of Steem apps in future phases
  • Work together with payment companies to get the first Steemit debit card that works across the world
  • Build a supply chain for electronics from China with our own warehouse and online ordering system
  • We rely on you to suggest more projects and megalomaniac ideas!
  • World domination!
  • ........

What do we have so far and what are we lacking?

Our current team consists of an eclectic mix of infrastructure, network, and hardware specialist. Other skills we currently have are project management, sales, security, webdesign, and marketing. Our development skills are a bit lacking, so we are definitely looking for a few rock-solid coders!

What are the next steps?

Crowdfunding is the key point to set this all in motion. Our goal is to secure the funding for phase 1 within 5-6 weeks. To do this, we've started mining Steem with multiple accounts and are pushing for the account @kloudery to become a witness on the Steem blockchain. This will be combined with all the profits of the account @steemitcity .

How can YOU help?

Voting for the @kloudery witness will definitely be a big help to get this project off the ground. Showing your support by voting on this post and all the posts that will be made by the @steemitcity account also goes a long way. You can vote on our witness by going to this link https://steemit.com/~witnesses and scrolling down to the end. Since we're at the time of writing not yet in the top 50, use the box on the end and type kloudery. Then push the big vote button. The system will ask you for your active key to complete the vote.

And that's it, you just helped Steemitcity become a reality!

We've created a separate account for this project, follow the account to stay up to date with the project.

I have no idea how serious you are, but this sounds like an incredibly fun and exciting thing to be a part of. Need a game theorist? :)

We're 110% serious.

We are 100% serious and committed to get this project going! Even if we never hit phase3, it will still be worth it. If you want to become part of this amazing journey, just do it! At this point we need people from all possible industries. Game development is actually something we are definitely considering as a project!

Wow, a Steemit city. It looks like there was a lot put into this. All the best to you.

Thanks, don't forget to vote for our witness! That will help us a lot in securing the funding.

STEEMIT CITY sounds great, keep up the good work and we will continue to support your efforts. Thank you

Truly radical.

What's the plan if some well armed Cambodians invade steem city to rob yall?

Good question. First of all, there are no armed insurgents in Cambodia. The only well armed Cambodians are part of the army.
Second, everything will be done with crypto. We can basically just wipe the hard drives and all traces of the funds will be gone. Since crypto is non-existent here, this would be a very effective way of clearing everything.
Third, this is not a place like North-Korea or Iran. They love foreign investment here and we would be pushing for official government regulation and approval.

Awesome. Count me in as soon as the USA lets me leave the country.

Why can't you leave the country?

We'll be welcoming you with open arms here in the tropical paradise that is soon-to-be Steem City!

Last I checked, the bastards wouldn't issue me a passport.

Wow man. I'm impressed by your resourcefulness and diligence. Truly a go-getter. I'm finally feeling almost 100% again and should be back to posting soon. Be well and get on it!

I am looking to do this in a bootstrapped way as well. I have access to land........but not in Cambodia.

Maybe we should pool resources and exchange ideas.

but there are many questions here. for me in particular. what if someone is a novice with things like steemit or blockchain or cryptocurrency but has the ability to learn, has a brain and is very creative, does that count as tangible to be part of steemit city. are those people in the picture already in cambodia? this is splendid beyond words but what does a newbie do in steemit city. what will the future of steemit be eventually, will generate income to eventually take care of the steemit members. is the only financial need at the beginning that for sustaining ones living? will there be love or brotherhood in the household of steemit? i live in philippines and cambodia is totally accessible!

Hey @surpassinggoogle, the goal for steemit city is diverse. We welcome anyone who wishes to join and work on anything you like. Be it art, community projects, developing apps, creating freelance graphics, or even just make Steemit posts! Future projects should grow organically between the members of steemit city so we can all decide which direction steemit city will take.

At the moment we are only a handful of people living in Cambodia. Once we can secure enough funding we will start renting the first phase villa and start inviting people to join us. Follow the official @steemitcity account for more information!

Also, the website https://steemit.city will be online soon!
