How To Use The Power Of Math To Skyrocket Your Steemit Account

Do You Realize 80% Of Your Steem Dollars Come From Only 20% Of Your Posts?

If you've ever heard of Pareto's law, you're familiar with the 80/20 rule.

In essence, the 80/20 rule states that 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts.

But that's only just scratching the surface.

The REAL power lies in that 20%. Disregard 80% of your customers.

The remaining 20% will still adhere to the 80/20 rule! So 80% of your sales will come from another 20% inside the other 20%!

For example, you hire ten employees. Two of them will accomplish 80% of the work in your company.

That means that these two are performing SIXTEEN TIMES better than the other eight...

There's tons of leverage to be found by using that principle.

Here's the real, hidden power of 80/20:

80/20 = 16:1

80/2² = 250:1

80/20³ = 4000:1

.......

If you have enough numbers to run this five times, your winners are a million times better than your losers.

This is just simple math!

The 80/20 rule is also applicable here on Steemit.

20% of the users are taking 80% of the profits.

80% of the steempower is in hands of 20% of the accounts.

Once you put this data into a graph, you start seeing the incredible leverage potential:

You might be wondering how exactly we can put this information to good use.

Let me introduce a term coined by Perry Marshal:

Racking The Shotgun

Perry Marshal explains this with a story about a shotgun in a bar.

But I've never been one for guns, so I'll tell you the concept through the eyes of a DJ.

You're playing in a dark, underground pit.

There are 50 people dancing like madmen in front of you.

Then you play one of the most obscure songs in your collection.

One that only real 'connaisseurs' would know.

40 people stop dancing.

10 are staring at you intensely.

These 10 are your biggest critics.

This separates the pros from the amateurs.

Selling to the right person is the most important factor. More than sales methods and copywriting skills combined.

The right person WANTS to buy from you. The wrong one doesn't care.

And this is not just about customers. This applies even here in this funky playground we call steemit.

Even if we don’t actually ‘sell’ anything here, we still want our posts to be seen. And more importantly, getting upvoted.

At this moment, you might argue that there is not enough diversity in the community to truly target specific audiences. But the travel category begs to differ with you.

And we know for a fact that the hordes are at the gate.

They are coming, and it will be a lot of them.

So pay attention. Rack that shotgun. And find your audience.

Nice post. What your discussing is properly known as zipfs law though.

Note that the above focuses on word distribution but it holds true statistically in almost every situation.

This is why there are 80/20 bands on your trading charts and as soon as the line breaks through one, it almost always signals a new trend breaking.

Wow, that's interesting @williambanks
Guess it shows I'm not a mathematician but an entrepreneur. We only know the term coined by Pareto :)

Interesting post! I agree with you on the count of people worrying too much about appealing to everyone instead of a core audience. That hurts a lot of people and a lot of those people don't see success.

Thank you @arrogantobserver.

People tend to forget that you have to speak to your customer directly. Or, on Steemit, your readers and audience. Find what makes them tick, what keeps them up at night, what their dreams and aspirations are, and then TALK to THEM! A guaranteed path to success :)

Jan , That's a very good 1 !!!

Thanks @mammasitta ...
Feel free to send me PM on slack by the way ;)

Will do ....by the way , I saw lots of djs messing up like that haha !

This is a great post, I love your reference to Perry Marshal, I wish you would have used the shotgun analogy though :-)

CG

@cryptogee I found it quite macabre. You know, I'm on of those European peace loving hippies... The dj reference is something I witnessed thousands of time while spinning my vinyl though, just made more sense to me :)

Wow! Never looked at "our situation" from that point of view. This should help those who think they did not get the best deals on their post by targeting a specific group. Maths should work for most! up-voted!

Thank for the comment @norbu
People are posting random stuff at this moment, without thinking about a long term strategy.

Now if they would only keep their eye on the math, it would help them massively :)

math is beautiful :D

Have a look in this post, it's great too!

I think it's possible to be consistent... you just have to have your mind set in the right direction and having will do do the best you can, always!

I agree @brunopro.
Consistency is key when it comes to an online business and branding.
And let's be honest, it might still be early days on the Steemit platform, but brands are already being built!

if the all people knows the power of maths, all world study that

Yes, the classic 80/20 rule. Nicely applied to Steemit! :)

good post mate

Great post! I'm seeing the 80/20 rule everywhere (along with some game theory stuff as well). Thanks for applying here in Steemit also.

Hey @lukestokes
Thank for the comment man, I agree that the 80/20 rule can be found everywhere around us. Just investigating the Steemit posts shows that even here Pareto's law is bubbling to the surface.

Thank you for reminding me that I need to "find my audience" sometimes i get so caught up in the upvotes I forget to write about what I'm truly knowledgeable about.

Hey @kaylinart
Thank you for the comment. I agree, people on Steemit are following the money at this stage, instead of writing and posting from their heart and what they know. Guess it will even out in the long run. The best advice I can give anyone is the same as you said, write about what you truly know and are passionate about.
