Hey there! Game Dev and experienced PC builder here. When someone asks me to put together a parts list for a new build I always ask 2 questions. What do you plan on doing with the PC and what is your budget.

For a machine that will purely be used for gaming, an i5 will do just fine. I personally own a 1060 and it surprised me at how powerful it is for a xx60 card. It even runs VR quite well. For coolers, I'm a fan of self contained liquid coolers like an H100, but they're overkill if you aren't planning on overclocking. Motherboards really don't matter as long as they have the features that you're looking for. Power supply is a good size, just make sure it's a quality one so it doesn't fail and fry your machine. Cases are purely personal choice and I always recommend 16gb of RAM. I would personally recommend an SSD to install Windows and all your main software on, while keeping your games and media on a larger HDD like the 1TB you mentioned. The SSD will give you one of the biggest bang for your buck for speed. 128gb should do just fine! Good luck building your PC.... don't do it on carpet.
