In my opinion, Steemit would be better if we could estimate the time it was going to take to go through a post even before clicking to open the post.
I don't even think this would require changing anything in Steem, the blockchain for Steemit.
Medium.com uses a subjective formula that may not give acceptable read-time estimates for some people, myself included.
Read-time information similar to that of medium.com would be great for a lot of people but I would prefer the option to see the raw data so that I can judge for myself:
Word-count
Medium.com uses the average reading speed of an adult: about 275 words per minute.
I hate it when I start reading a post and only midway through it I realise it is an entire book!
Image-count
For images, medium.com counts:
12 seconds for the first image, 11 for the second, and minus an additional second for each subsequent image. Any images after the tenth image are counted at three seconds.
I hate it when a post takes longer to completely open, especially on cellular networks, because it has an unnecessary number of images!
Video-time
I suggest showing the combined total time for all the videos embedded in a post. I believe this is possible but not entirely sure. Initially, support for only the popular video hosting platforms would be enough.
I hate when I open a post looking for something to read and instead I find a video, maybe with some introductory or summary text!

Could make a github issue feature request. Not sure the video thing is possible at this time, video duration is also already written when playing the video.
Seems like a low-priority feature to me.

I will do the github feature request as soon as possible.
I meant seeing the video duration before opening the post, and when multiple videos are embedded in a post, seeing the total video duration for all the embedded videos.
It may seem a low-priority issue in the general scope of issues but as the project is Open Source, the issue might be picked up by a motivated developer and expedited.
