Steempower the Holy Grail of this community. For me, it seems like that.
I wanted to know if the widespread opinion that more steempower gives you more success on this site is real.
So I tried it out. Currently, I have 7,500 steempower and got 11.000 delegated from minnowbooster.
So does more Steempower affect your Steemit Journey?
Yes, it does!
In my opinion, it could be a bit overhyped. I will explain what I mean.
During the time I rented some Steempower I had an eye on users where I think that they are successfully on their way but with less Steempower.
It's difficult to analyze if my progress came alone because I have more Steempower. But from what I observed I don't believe it.
Of course, more Steempower attracts people but owning a lot of it alone will not bring you much success here. Some people look specifically only for users with much Steempower, but it's more an exception than the typical behavior of users.
For me, the good thing about having much Steempower is that you can sweeten the day of others. When you see a great post with not so much Upvotes or if they are not so much worth in numbers you can bring a smile on the authors face. Especially for newcomers.
This is all my opinion. I would not say that if I had had a really huge amount like 50.000k Steempower, it would be the same. Maybe I would have made a different experience. I don't know that, but I will also try this out.
That means you could have made a totally different experience. If this is the case, feel free to share it in the comment section.
But I noticed something that makes me believe that there is something more important, something that has more impact than just having a bunch of Steempower.
I will share it with you in the next one.
Thanks for reading.
I can imagine that you will have different type of followers, if you just go and buy a lot of Steem or if you're writing your way up there.
If you go the first way, let's call it fast-food-way, you will get lots of followers that are just interested in getting your attention and getting you to give them an upvote. It's these guys that are spamming your comment section with stuff like "upvoted and followed, please follow back".
Then the other way would be to deliver steady good content and earn that way your Steemt - the slow-food-way. That way will get you followers that are authentically interested in your content and they interact with you in a meaningful way.
However, I think the second way can be really tedious and it takes a lot of time (and talent) to earn a decent amount of Steem. I personally think that finding a middle ground between the two ways is best. I buy from time to time a few steem and I do my best to deliver content that is useful to others.

Having over 5k Steempower myself i definitely think it does affect how successful you can be, since getting more steempower my posts always make decent amount of money now and my growth in followers definitely has jumped even when not many more views etc is coming to my posts

Yes, I saw your profile. Really decent amount you earn.
And you are convinced that it comes from your Steempower?

I think connection is one of the most important things. If you like someone and their material it might be even a bigger incentive to vote for them as opposed to someone who has a lot of SP and votes back.
But the saying is - money talks, and that definitely is true as well, so I think if you don't have a lot of SP you have to make sure to make up for it with a good personality and good content

A very interesting analysis @modernpaster.
I would think that up to a certain point, SP is crucial. For example, one just signing up who doesnt power up is going to have a tough time giving to others. That said, I agree sensational posts would attract attention although that can be tough.
In the end, I believe it comes down to what are you contributing. My posts do not get a lot of monetary returns which is okay at this point. My following isnt that active I guess or they simply dont like what I write. Either way, it is my role to keep contributing. That is what gets results.

This is a strong attitude. To keep up contributing even when the results are not like expected.
Keep on doing that I think you will see a difference by time.

You're right. I've seen so many guys rising huge starting from June and July, also your upvote doesn't depend only on the amount of SP, reputation counts.
For example, I have 2800 and my upvote is 0.27. Someone can have 1800 and 72 rate and $5 upvote. Steemit is not only about money. Thank you for the great content!

Are sure about that my friend?
From what I know the only factor that determinates the value of your worth is your amount of steempower.
The reputation does not affect your upvote value. At least from that what I know. But maybe you are right :)

I agree if you have a certain amount it is easy to do everything. Doesn't matter if you are dolphin, orca, whatever.
As a minnow you lack real power and it is frustrating.

Can be true but we can't forget that people who are investing a lot are taking a high risk. For me, this platform has not proven itself. We dont know where this site will be in one year. The probability to lose your money exists.

Nice article. Well done!
I do agree with you. However, if I had let's say 1,000,000 Steem Power, I know my Steemit journey would be alot different compared to what it is right now. - I would be able to spread some wealth and bring smiles to authors on a whole other level, just like you explained.
But not only that, I would definitely be able to build a larger following, due to the fact that people want to follow dolphins and whales. - And I would most likely end up with more rewards in terms of $-payouts on literally anything I wrote.
Steem Power is a vital ingredient for your Steemit success. There's no question about it. - That being said though, it's not necessary or mandatory to have tons of Steem Power to become successful... - And that's the best part of Steemit.
Anyone can be successful. With some luck and hard work.

I think a bit of tangible and intangible value:
A brand is intangible for example, the ability making friends with your look, blog design, attitude, your words, your behaviour that's intangible and often much more important than any money, because the money comes by itself through that intangible value. If someone can trigger emotions with that intangible value than it's more valuable than pure Steem Power.
Steem Power is a committment to Steemit as a shareholder for me, as a owner of the company. It offers also the opportunity to give more to the community via upvotes, delegation and that's what i like to do, i want influence, i wanna build the future of this great platform, i think Steem Power has that opportunity built-in. It creates curation rewards, some Steemian create more rewards via curation than via postings. That's the beauty again of Steemit, you have options!

I would have a lot of Steempower to support the work of others. Today, paid high-quality posts are less and less. I'm sorry to see this, but I can not change the situation
