Flew-Shot

Flew Shot is the title of my serial posts about whatever random things a g'won. From writing about blogging to promoting my podcasting career, curating music & art to writing about sociopolitical issues, I'll create one of these at least weekly, often more. I will also sometimes use specific tags and communities for these posts.

Hump day.

Just a midweek update and what not.

Lately I've been pushing myself to post once a day. It's a routine I got into quite a few years ago when I first discovered the decentralized web by way of #Steemit. It was a schedule that worked out well and I was able to integrate my blogging and podcasting schedule with my daily work and life. As long as I was doing things worthy of sharing with the world, iI had something to write about, or at least had content to share in the form of DJ mixes, podcasts and live events I was producing or performing at. It was a seamless way to monetize my content at the same time and work and play.

When I became enamored with the decentralized web another thing happened, which needed to happen badly; I strayed away from utilizing mainstream platforms, more specifically, Facebook. Not that I ceased using it altogether, nor did I deactivate any accounts, and I don't want to. I mean, more so, that I stopped using it as a means to dish out a daily dose of whatever dumb shit came to mind. Instead, I focused on creating content and used each respective platform simply for promoting to each respective audience. The bulk of my content lived on the decentralized web. I began to use sites like Youtube and MIxcloud to host the content itself, while using Patreon to generate some fiat currency. Then, all of my daily wordage appeared in neatly formatted blog posts which would generate payouts in the form of crypto currency, not only for me, if you understand how platforms like this one work, everyone who clicks the upvote button at the bottom of each post also receives a percentage of each payout. It's a good solid system which, just like mainstream social media, is free to use.

So, here I am with another go at this professional blogging and podcasting thing, which, to be honest, I have been doing since long before the terms existed. I started an internet radio show in 1998 and as a result began using some of the early social media predecessors to share links and recordings to the shows. I even had a website at the time where people could read bios and stream recordings. We did some live streaming at Pseudo Studios in NYC then as well. As a matter of fact, the crew I worked with at the time had a contract with a company that wound up doing a launch event for Windows Media Player. There was not even talk of anything like an iPod yet. We didn't exactly monetize content then. The companies we worked with did some advertising and garnered sponsorship so they were able to cover a great deal of production expenses. And I had a good paying job which helped fund my creative endeavors. Not to mention, I was a working DJ and often produced club nights and Raves.

And that brings me to the last few things I will bring up today. Now that things are moving in a good direction and the state of Florida is at least mostly respecting our constitutional rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, I and my family will be revisiting the plans we had laid out to start a business and create and monetize content. The so called pandemic certainly didn't help last year when we were all set to move forward with our plans. We had already made some micro-investments, that's what I call small amounts of money, resources, time and energy one spends building entrepreneurial endeavors., and we are continuing to do just that with the help of quite a solid network of friends, family and cohorts.

We've just about put the finishing touches on the #solartinysound 2.0 and have already taken out on a couple of test runs. We've got a website, blogs and social media all set and ready to roll and some of it already rolling. We've got a Discrod server set up to be a virtual music marketplace and hangout as well as a 24/7 radio station. I've got my weekly show up and running on @msp-waves and it only keeps getting better and better each week. And, to make things even more exciting, I just got word that someone was on Tim Ferris's very popular podcast today talking about #Hive and how awesome it is to take back control of the internet. It seems a ton of people are now onboarding and that can only mean good things for those of us who've been using the decentralized web and waiting years for the rest of the world to catch on. Yay!

In addition to all of the above, we've got several weekly and monthly events going on here in Palm Beach County, Florida. I've got Usman, who I've mentioned in previous posts, applying his incredible talent as a graphic designer for some marketing materials this week. By the weekend we should see a digital flyer for our Monday evening party at The Chill Room kava bar in Lake Worth and our Friday nights at NuGen International U-Pick Hemp Farm in Loxahatchee. And in the coming weeks we will be set up to live stream from each of our events. Can't wait!/div>
