An influential celebrity can do wonders for a content platform.
Twitter had its Ashton Kutcher and Kim Kardashian, MySpace had Justin Timberlake. Instagram/YouTube has more homegrown celebrities than you can shake your stick at.
One way of propelling Steemit to the next level, would be some involvement from a major celebrity with widespread, crossover appeal.
When a celebrity joins a platform, they bring fans yearning to interact with them. More users is usually a good thing for a platform, however, many of us consider Steemit to be our online home. One must be careful in the type of guests you invite over to dinner.
They also bring publicity. That can be a double-edged sword, as with any content platform, you are what your users post. If that is something less than "desirable", it is a tough thing to walk back.
Finally, my question...
What celebrity would bring the right publicity and group of fans to Steemit to propel it to the next level?
My initial thought? Argentine footballer Lionel Messi.

The reach of Barcelona is enormous and Messi is an absolute icon of two continents, Europe and South America, that already have a strong foothold on Steemit. Residents on the other five continents certainly are aware of his greatness as well. Messi is rarely a controversial figure and wouldn't bring any unwanted bad publicity.
Thoughts? Who - if anyone - would you select?
The first big celebrity to post videos on YouTube was Oprah Winfrey.
YouTube was still a new site with a close community where most people knew most of the big names on there. That changed when Oprah joined. Same thing will probably happen here.

To answer your question, someone most people admire, like maybe Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

Off the top of my head, I would look at a celebrity launching a 'cause'. Someone like Matt Damon with his push for accessible clean water or a well known author/advocate who triumphs self publishing.
@nepd, great question. (thanks for making me try to think on a Friday night)

I don't even know who some of the current celebrities are. As it stands the Steemit audience is too small to interest some of the big players. I'd love to see some of my favourite musicians with loyal fans here, e.g. Steven Wilson
