How do you judge a quality content?

Hello, Steemians! 


Thank God it's Saturday.  

Today, I'll like to touch a topic that has been an issue on this platform. When a newbie ask me how to get noticed by the community, I usually tell  them, "create quality contents, read other people's posts, comment on it  and socialize". Then some of them will ask me questions like, does it  have to be a long post? most of the posts here that got the community's  attention are long. I simply tell them, you must not write a long post. 

However, I have come to notice that short posts don't gain much traction here. Is a post supposed to follow a certain pattern before it would pass as a quality content here? What does the word quality mean? Is it not a  relative term? What seems valueless or low quality to you, might worth  more than a gold to me.

What is the definition of Quality?

The standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something. Source.

Now, who measures the degree of excellence? What criteria does he use to measure it? 

You call a long post great, and I see it as boring. You call short posts  low-quality posts and they are the ones I prefer to read.

You see some grammatical errors and write it off, but I choose to overlook those errors as English is not the first language of most users here. Since I could understand the message passed across, I hold the post in high esteem. 

You see a topic and think it's not a good one, but that could be the most interesting topic I have read on steemit. 

You think a picture in the post is not connected to the article and I see the connecting lines. 

Just my thoughts  

For me, a quality post could be any topic. What doesn't interest me might be useful to another. 

A quality post should be free from plagiarism.

A quality post should have minimal typos and misspellings. 

The pictures in a post should be clear and concise.

If you are doing a video, use a high-quality camera and the audio should be sound.

A quality post should be free from racism, prejudice and anything that threatens human existence and peace. It may not matter to you, but it  does to me. I am a humanist and to me, such things should be the number criteria we use in measuring a good content. 

I use the Plag social media platform and just a single Card can lighten up my mood all through the day. I must not read 10 pages text before I grab a thing from it. I follow @blazing, she is not into the long posts type, yet I learn a lot from her blog.

It's time to broaden our horizons on what we assume to be a "quality content". Everyone who is creating an original content here should be given a space to feel the Steem Blessings.

So many people to a great extent still prefer facebook because you are just yourself on facebook. No fear of losing out. I see a lot of people forcing themselves to write on  scientific topics, cryptocurrency and others trending topics because they want to join the winning team. These whole thing is taking the fun out of this platform. 

How about if we allow people to just be themselves and still give them the support? I believe this will make here a lot more fun and accommodating to so many. We need more users and let them come with their styles. Let's bring fun and originality into steemit

like you rightly put,quality is a relative term and just like they say about one man's meat being another's poison, i don't think a post has to be long for it to have quality for one person or the other, the trick here is to find out what interest readers on steemit like the most and try to write quality content around it, be it long or short.

That is what I am against. I just want people to create contents in line with what they like and what they feel comfortable doing. It should not be about what brings the highest rewards. Some posts are curated only based on the topic and some frustrated minnows see it as a means to get recognized so they force themselves writing on what they know nothing about about.

This is an interesting one here. Well, quality denotes the worth of something. So,if you value steemit,you have to give it your quality time,quality write up ,and quality mind because it worth it. Great steemians

And how do you judge its worth? What you value could be worthless to me. I prefer to judge it more on originality.

@ogoowinner you've said it right what interest you might not interest me in a post. Although, I am new here on steemit but I feel the should a criteria for quality post by steemit itself. As for me @popson an Interesting or quality post depends on the mood and personalty of the reader.

A quality post should be easily understood. I do not think it has to be necessarily long. I've seen long posts with nothing. It should also have some contents and not just ramblings, unless of course the content is rambling.

I love a good rambling that was meant to be a rambling. Not a serious post that turns out to be ramblings. I dunno if it makes sense as I suspect this reply has some elements of rambling :)

I really enjoyed your post, I think because everyone is unique to themselves that each person looks for different things when seeking out quality content. Being an artist I spend a lot of time in the arts sections of Steemit and I seek originality. I notice that you accept tips here on steemit, I'm curious is that something that people respond to? I think a quality post is something that incorperates the intrests of the majority. That's the thing about this new realm of social media......it must take into account, social interests, meaning, the interest of the whole community....developers included.

Steem is a merger of cryptocurrency with social media. Both interest are important. Its cool to "just be yourself" but its also cool to be "mindful of others". Its cool to make interesting art but its also cool to make profits from business.

For the business crowd a quality post is a post that adds value to the steemblockchain. Text or "long posts" do that. This may change in the future as the steem formula improves upon itself but in its current stage, text, alongside interesting journalism is value for the business folks. Financial investors appreciate news.

For the artistic crowd quality content is a much more coloful consideration. It is true that artistic content will always drive value the furthest as it is often much more attractive then text an numbers on a page but art must consider business as business has considered art. Steem is a business that created a space for art.....therefore, those in the art world should be considerate of the interest of those in the business world.

All these thing being said i think a quality post on steem is one that incorperates the interest of both parties......interesting well written content (that has some body to it) as well as artwork an so forth that represent creative self expression.

Well, @ogoowinner, it's like that old saying about pornography: "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description, and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so -- but I know it when I see it."

To me, a quality post is one that is informative and clear. Entertaining is nice too. Of course formatting matters but hey, what do I know, I'm the guy trying to make the #nopictures tag happen. Length doesn't really matter (even though I am biased in favour of long posts) but too short posts are, I think, the province of the earliest whales of the platform who know that no matter what they're gonna get big-ass upvotes.

So yeah, that's all I've got.

Nicely described i couldn't have said it better and yeah i believe in steem :D i write less sorry for that but would like to improve on that part soon thanks for your feedback it means a lot

i concur with @ogoowinner , its not all about making long post, most post has no value in them, someone can easily draft up any thing and post here but when we take our time to read most of them we can find few that are really good..

Judging quality is very hard. I don't know really, to be honest, how it is judged. I try to write something that other will want to read - but that is a stab in the dark. I also try to be as original as possible. Like photography. I would rather post my own pictures than using stock images. But once again, this is my own opinion. I think for a creator, or an artist, it is really hard. There are two forces pulling at you like two dogs: trying to give quality art and what the public wants, and sacrificing quality for what you want to do.

Awesome post! I think a quality post has to offer some value and in an easy understandable way. It can offer value in terms of information or entertainment etc. And it should be easy to understand.

Put succinctly, you are a good definition of high quality!!!

Pages filled article does not necessarily translate to good content as you rightly said but on the other hand, few written lines could pass a vast message across. Thank you ma for pointing this out

As a newbie i felt out of place because the only contents I observed that got incredible attention were those about crypto and science. i wanted to blog about pictures or foods or comedy or lifestyle but i felt too unserious. This post for me is timely, I've been spending most on my time on steemit trying to connect and be myself.

You are right. Styles are different. And contributions to the platform can be unique if we are free to express ourselves. Imagine the long chats in whatsapp group, and no one feels another persons comment or discussions is not quality. That should be the spirit.
In as much as such posts are contributing in a reasonable way, it should be judged fairly.
