About the Bigwaves Curation Team

Bigwaves is a project aimed at discovering and rewarding original content creators from Nigeria. The awesome steemit leaders behind this project are, @donkeypong and @hanshotfirst. Read more about the Bigwaves project here.

@ehiboss, @fisteganos, @gbenga, @destinysaid and @ogoowinner are the Nigerian curating team working for the growth of this community. So far, this team have been doing a marvelous work. ( I have been working in my own capacity despite being sick for a while. Fully recovered now).

Since the inception of this project, over 500 contents from Nigerian authors have been rewarded. With the fast growth of steemit users from this region, we now have a lot of issues to handle.

The Bigwaves project stands strong against every practice that is against the ethics of the steemit community. We fight against spam, scam, plagiarism, image theft, and other forms of cyber crimes.

If you like what we are doing, and would like to support in anyway, please contact @donkeypong on steemit.chat

An Apology The Steemit Community

Recently, I've been seeing posts from other steemit users complaining about some Nigerian spammers, those who plagiarize other people's contents and those involved in identity theft.

I don't want to pretend like we don't know that Nigeria already has a bad name from internet scam. However, I want to use this opportunity to apologize to the entire steemit community on behalf of the good Nigerians here. I'm fully aware of the fact that it's not only Nigerians that are involved in such awful practices here, but I'm doing this because I see a lot of people are already mentioning Nigeria, and I'll like to save the good ones among us from this bad image.

I plead with the Steemit community to realize that, we are Nigerians, we not are scammers, Nigerians are not spammers. A few bad eggs among us are rubbishing our entire image here. Please don't generalize their actions on the entire community. We'll fish out this bad eggs among us, and deal with them appropriately.

We have a lot of Nigerians who are working tirelessly to contribute to the growth of this network too. In my own capacity, I have ran a project that distributed Steem to minnows. @ehiboss and I have a project currently running for the growth of steemit. @maryfavour, @gbenga, @fisteganos, @eurogee, @ejemai, @destinysaid and a lot of others are Nigerians promoting this network. I'm working on a marketing project that will be unveiled this week. A few bad eggs should not give us a bad name or wrong image here.

Warning to all of you spoiling the Nigerian image here.

I'm a Nigerian. I'm not a spammer. I see my activities here as an investment that I have to protect. I'll not allow anybody destroy what I've achieved here through consistent hardwork.

I really want to commend @ehiboss for being the one who started correcting you from associating yourselves with inappropriate activities  here. After speaking with him today, I have made up my mind to plead with you people to stop involving yourselves with anything that will not make all of us proud.

I have placed a warning on some of your accounts. If you are involved in any of those negative activities, please stop it for your own good. I invite all Nigerians to join us in cleansing our dear community.

Please if you find any Nigerian involved in scam, plagiarism or spamming, don't hesitate to report that person to @ehiboss, @gbenga, @destinysaid, @fisteganos or @ogoowinner.

Together we shall make steemit great.

Thanks @ogoowinner for standing up for our good name. Good job you and your team are doing. Many of my friends have benefited and we really appreciate you guys.

Well written @ogoowinner. I wish they would listen this time and turn a good liFe with the better opportunity Steemit has created for us. God bless you ma!

i totally agree with you @ogowinner. I think that one of the misconceptions that brought about this, is that they think that this is a ponzi site thus believing that its a quick money doubler, but when they realize that its not so, they seek for an easy way. My dear Nigerians, this is not MMM, Twinkas, FastCash etc.. Lets not make this to affect us like Paypal did, because of some persons. Read the stories of those that have made it here, you will realize that they all started with 0.00SBD.

@arizonawise.

actually, Steemit cannot ban anyone, from what I have learned. There are many opportunities for thieves and scammers to come clean, tell their story and move into a direction of abundance. Steem is designed to help those who help and create value. The opportunities are endless, but scamming and stealing will not be tolerated.

@ogoowinner - This is the first time I heard of the bigwaves project. Fantastic work and a great team. I have interacted with some of the team members in the Africaunited team channel and found everyone to be great individuals. Kudos to all of you. Though I do not belong to Nigeria and have not visited Nigeria either, I applaud your efforts to bring up talented original content providers.

We, the people, are solidly behind every project that will make us fly the Nigerian flag with pride. Steemit has the largest number of awesome people all over the world. Big props to you guys. Keep the flag flying 🇳🇬

I'm overjoyed that great minds like you are also on this platform and representing us in good light. Thanks for your advice, admonitions, upvotes and encouragements. I really do appreciate it.

I'll not allow anybody destroy what I've achieved here through consistent hardwork.

This is exactly how i feel too. The more active we are, the better Steemit will be. Thanks for your hard work. We are noticing!

Thanks for your encouragement @stellabelle.

I'm glad you are feeling better now. Spam and plagiarism is not good for us and i'm happy you are fighting against it.

i am really glad to know that you stood up on the half of others and took the responsibility but i don't think that you need to apologise

This is serious, i wonder why people will still come on steemit and spam. I have seen people promoting HYIP and Ponzis on steemit, and it just beats my comprehension. Thank you for the post.

More oil on your head @ogoowinner. integrity should be our watch word.

Hello @ogoowinner

You have my full support on this. Within my own influence, i am going to be guided by this document. Thanks for this piece

welcome back.this bad eggs should not bring it here.......

Hy friend, i am happy you cameback

Good one, Nigeria is full of interlects, if only we can rely on our instincts, and use our talents wisely, we will go places. We must learn to be discipline.

Absolutely right. We have to be disciplined. Trying shortcuts will take us no where.

Thanks for reading this @cutedicta.

the main thing is not to view this as a get rich quick scheme, I unfortunately see many nigerians doing this, its up to each and every one of us to teach one another the right approach to steemit,

abi I lie sister ogoowinner?

You no lie. But you know our people too like to get wetin them no labour for. We go stop them, before them go cause wahala for all of us.

Hello, Thank you for taking responsibility and cleaning up your own community. This is a well written article. I also feel a desire to not allow scammers to ruin the community for everyone else.

Thank you @whatsup. It's the duty of all genuine steemit users to protect this network from people who want to ruin it.

Thanks for reading.

Nice post. More power to the elbow of the curating team. We are grateful

Thank you.

You don't have to apologize for your compatriots. Everyone own's their own actions, but hopefully they recognize that they bring shame to themselves and disrepute to those they are associated with.

Thanks for stopping by @demotruk. When other steemit users complain, they usually don't call their names, but call Nigeria of which I'm a part of. I don't want them creating a bad image for the rest of us here.

Thanks for reading this.

lots of people cannot differentiate good from bad eggs because they don't take time to learn. I know who is doing good work in Nigeria, and you're one of them. You don't need to apologize for others in Nigeria, but I do understand why you would. You have a good heart, and your caring extends outwards.....this problem will need vigilance, and positive actions, and you're doing a fine job.

Thanks very much @stellabelle. Your likes keep fueling my inner strength.

You guys have been doing a great job. Thanks so much for that @destinysaid.

i am happy that you stood up for others. But you shouldn't have taken responsibility i believe

Thanks for this @ogowinner I think it should clear the air to a reasonable extent. I was sometimes ago embarrassed on discord by a white chap, because i introduced myself as a Nigerian..... Thanks once again for this and also for your upvote On my Introduction post......

good to know you - rock on

Interesting point you make. However bad eggs are everywhere... If you think Nigerians are bad, try the russians! So you need to dump that mentality that the world perceives Nigerians as the worst of bad sorts... No!
There may be terrible Nigerians out there, but there are even more terrible citizens of other nations. The only reason why Nigeria seems to always come up first on international radar is because we are naturally ostentatious, we love to show off. Thats why Nigerians always stand out wherever they are, whatever they are into... Its not that others dont do better or worse, its just that there is a showmanship in the way Nigerians do this, that always get them noticed while others pass on unobserved...

Its a good warning you are putting out here... But however, lets be civil and diplomatic in the way we handle these issues, let us also show the international community here that we are level headed and respect freedom of speech here, which is what steemit stands for, freedom of speech. Let us learn from the likes of @sherlockholmes and fellow steemians who are fighting spammers and scammers at the global steemit level, they never degenerate into threatening, and lashing out of heated words at the apprehended accounts, rather they relate with them in civilized manner and mete out action on them in very matured ways.
I understand your zeal and the zeal of other Nigerians to sanitize steemit, but call to mind that you are dealing with human beings too, so at all times, be respectful of that fact, and handle Nigerians dealing off handedly in a matured way, and not with outright threatenings, like as if you are schoolmasters with canes, and the defaulters are truant students who must be punished by flogging...

I am saying all this because i took steemit seriously, because i saw it as a marketing opportunity for my internet online earning activities, and i faced a very tough and hostile resistance here from certain Nigerians, i was only beginning to understand how steemit works, and was really upset with the schoolboy way i was treated, but i decided to overlook the immature reaction of those who were fighting for the steemit cause, and rather embrace the good in steemit which they were really trying to pass across to me, however not properly... And thats why i am still here in steemit, because i was quick in understanding and appreciating the value of steemit, in revolutionzing the way to earn money online... But i thought to myself, if other Nigerians are treated in this same manner when they come to steemit, they not knowing the power of steemit, but coming with what they know how to do already, facing such hostile reaction from our Nigerian protectors of the steemit image, many of them will just back out, and forget about steemit

So tell me, is that what we really want for steemit? To exclude people from it, whom with a little politeness, diplomacy and maturity, we could have included into the steemit community.
