Suffice to say, there's a lot of truth to that. There are very few influential steemers - probably a few hundred. If it doesn't catch their eye, there's not much chance.
On the bright side, it's not as if posting on Reddit gets you anything. So you have nothing to lose, really. If you are unlucky, you would have contributed like you always did. If you are lucky, you will make good money from it.
