Who is @shapeshift? - an open letter to the early minerssteemCreated with Sketch.

in steemit •  8 years ago

One thing is certain, @shapeshift has nothing to do with Shapeshift, the real Shapeshift, and to be fair, when Shapeshift joined Steemit, as @shapeshiftio, @shapeshift quickly added a comment that the @shapeshift account was not linked to Shapeshift the company. It's a little confusing, and it confused me and I transfered some STEEM to @shapeshift.

The purpose of this post is to

  • try to get my STEEM back
  • also to encourage @shapeshift to return STEEM to the other confused users
  • to ask @shapeshift, as a gesture of goodwill, to hand over the keys to the account to The Real Shapeshift. It would be tidier.

But why an open letter to the early miners?

The @shapeshift account was opened in April 2016, and so I make a few assumptions

  • the account was opened by an early miner
  • there is a chance that the particular early miner is still actively involved with the platform
  • that other early miners know who it is (please have a word).

Is there more to add?

Not really, except that the same early miner seems to have opened many many accounts in April 2016. I assume this because the accounts have the same recovery account. There are many famous names.

I had thought I might title this post

@facebook is on Steemit!

and then write Looks like facebook hasn't started blogging yet!

I guess he's busy with his other site... that kind of thing.

Perhaps, though, it is more serious. Shapeshift appears to be a very friendly and human operation, but Facebook, the real one, has lawyers. And there is an @apple too!

There was the whole thing, back in the late summer, about keeping it all legal, not pinching photos, money is involved, citing sources, being professional. Come on guys, someone's made a small amount of STEEM using some seriously protected trade names.

I suggest the keys of @facebook, @apple and other such accounts be handed over to Steemit Inc, so that if anyone comes asking they can just say we were keeping them safe for you, the rightful owners of these trademarks.

Hi, there! We would be happy to help you get your funds back or see what is going on with your transaction. Have you submitted a ticket to our support team? Here is the link: https://shapeshift.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

As we do not own the other ShapeShift account, we can not take that from that user. We understand the frustrations with this but since we were not involved with Steem until we added the asset to our exchange and the shapeshift account has already been created, we created the shapeshiftio. Again, please reach out to our team and they would be happy to help you!

Thank you. Perhaps I should I have mentioned in the post that you have already helped me. I did not want to clutter my narrative. In the first instance, when my shift did not occur, I contacted your support, and they pointed out my mistake. There was, at that time also a confusion in the UI of your Android app. I pointed this out, and Shapeshift, the real one, re-imbursed my mistake, and fixed the bug.

Okay, thank you for that update. I'm glad we were able to get your funds back! We understand the confusion and we have been in conversation with the owner of "shapeshift" since the beginning and we agree, it would be really great if we had ownership. Thanks for more feedback on this.

You are very patient!
