respect the whales

Overview

I was struck today while having a conversation with one of the respected whales of this community when he told me that he invested in this platform when most people where running away as steem price was just about 8 cents!!!

I was speechless for a while because I didn't have this type of understanding before. Obviously whatever you are seeing today in this community, there are people who suffered and laboured for it. Most of those people fall under what you now call whales.

Steemit Has Not Always Been This Attractive

Imagine when this platform just started and price was nosediving and a lot of people were not informed about cryptocurrency. Picture what this place would have been like then? If you consider that not minding the aforementioned challenges, some people were still maintaining servers to run the blockchain at a cost, then you will agree with me that such people deserves to be accorded some respect.

People were still witnesses, running servers over a platform that they didn't really know how it would end up. Being a blogger myself, I know the cost of some of these equipment and or services so I understand the sacrifices.

If you consider all these, you will appreciate the whales of this platform especially those who have been here for along time, investing in and promoting this platform to the point of mass adoption.

Implication

When next you accuse a whale of earning too much on a post, pause and think again! These ladies and gentlemen has indeed laboured to keep this place moving till we met it and deserve every damn thing you think they are enjoying today.

If they were frustrated like many of the minnows of today who are not earning as much as they want, they probably would have abandoned this platform long time ago and We probably would not have met this place the way it is now.

Expectation

Respect the whales not because you need favour from them or you fear flagging!!! Respect the whales because they truly deserve whatever is the fringe benefit you think they are enjoying today. They deserve the respect. They earned that respect. Give it to them.

Finally

Be patient and keep doing what you do well. Some day, someone else will appreciate you for the labour of love you are putting in today.

Thank you for reading.

The reason I find the idea of whales useful is because most of them are likely early adopters. This means when the steemit platform grows a ton we get a bunch of newcomers we will still have the same quality and community that exists today.

Nice post. Steemit is very like the society of today. There are people who work hard , take chances, invest money and research the hell out of their business choice. These people deserve every cent they make. Then there's the free money people who think everyone should provide them with a living but will not apply themselves to obtain wealth, moan how the system is unfair and how the rich should be taxed more. I think good on the whales. The moaning minis just need to put in the effort.

The effort is exactly what I'd like to see more of. Too many moaners are responsible for plagiarizing others work and copyright infringement. Just the other day I saw someone posting a moan blog and I went to check out their page. It was all articles stolen off the web. I explained to the moaner that if they had put more effort in posting unique articles perhaps they too would see the rewards others do.

Absolutely.....

One simple solution: if you want to earn more, fund your account. Invest in the platform so that it can invest in you. Aloha!

That makes sense but the main issue here is to understand that those who are seemingly earning more here now had worked for it.

They have paid their dues and deserve the community respect.

The old 80/20 rule - you have to put in 80% of the effort at the start so well done all the whales who have stuck at it!

That is the idea brother. It is easy to condemn but many of us are not will to pay the price.

Great post. People tend to forget that the price of steem was so much lower and that the people that were here from the beginning actually made it what it is now!

Well said and so positive. Refreshing post!

Hell Yes I Respect the Whales, I am only a SHARK, Resteemed

Thank you for resteeming.

How do you get a whale to notice your post?

Just keep doing your best consistently, one day you will be noticed. Thank you.

Thanks for that, makes sense. What do you do?

It is a long term deal and we will all pay our dues!

Upvoted and resteemed. Great post and I hope everyone understands....I havent been here long and my post has just started to get some.
The big tip is to Not give up, I was in not for the finsnce....didnt get it then....just loved meeting new people and read their posts and I upvoted a lot even if I hardly new what it meant
Just being here for the greatness of this community has giving me a little push and I have learned from people who explained to me what I didnt new...
Just be ur self. Be paitient...respect the people who reach out to us to help in every way.....
They ate the reason we ate here

The risk taken to start this community is something that not many would have been able to pull off. It is now growing but it was the whales that went through those tough times. Respect for their determination.

Great article.

My dolphin looks dead, but my account is active . I joined for 14 days.
Is there any whale / dolphin nearby can answer that.

you're pretty right this is a great investment thanks a lot for sharing and keep on posting ;)

Too many people here paint with broad brushes.

Some whales are decent people, some whales are average and some are pricks. Just like everyone else in the world.

I judge people based on their actions, not on some random metric like how much Steem they have.

Want my respect? Show me you deserve it, do something for the community as a whole.

Want my contempt? Be a self serving prick who loots the reward pool by upvoting drivel.

That's how a free market works.

That is not the issue. The issue now is about honoring those who worked on this platform and preserved it to this level.

Those who believed on this platform long before we heard about it.

There's a common saying in business, "What have you done for us today?"

Progress demands that one does not rest on one's laurels.

Totally agree. Just do your thing to the best of your ability. Who knows you can catch a whale's attention. All that matters is for you to gain friends all over the world to interact and exchange views to a certain topic or content.

Right on! I just figure I got in at the right time here. I'm in this thang for the long haul. There's no way this isn't gonna blow the hell up! The better content should always win out. I'll just keep on keepin on gettin better. Full Steem ahead kids!

How do you actually get whale votes? This is all new to me.

I respect the whales. Whales have a thousand or more MVests. That's a billion or more. They literally have a vested interested in seeing Steemit succeed. My only issue is some dolphins and whales only vote for each other. Still, even that is understandable, they "grew up" here together. They know each other. They don't me so why would they waste a big fat valuable upvote on me?

And some have formed clicks. If you like one you cant like the other. I tend to like everyone no matter what their class is...until I have a reason to dislike them.

It is the high school thing I don't care for. All in all it is just like life. Some are good and do great things for the community. And that includes minnows, dolphins, orcas and whales.
Compared to last year, it is a pretty good time to be a minnow, imho

Yeah lets all suck up to the Whales and hope they vote us up!
