There are buildings full of things I don't know- they're called libraries and when it comes to technology issues you could probably fill several. I may not be a weatherman, but I know when it's raining out. Similarly, I may not be Bill Gates, but I know there's something profoundly wrong with Steemit... and nobody seems to be doing much to fix it- unless you call blaming other issues fixing.
Over the past couple of weeks I've read countless theories about what's wrong with Steemit and why. I think we can all agree that something is definitely wrong. I read a post from @ned that says the issues with the DDos attacks seem to have been resolved, at least for now and kudos for that. I know it took a lot of time and effort to fix. I read up on what is involved in making the attacks and resolving them must be extremely difficult- so let's give credit where credit is due. Having said that, if these other issues aren't fixed soon, there may not be anything left to attack.
I posted a chapter of my story the other day (the most important) and made $7.65 ($9.10 with randowhale)... it isn't so much the money that troubles me as much as 30 upvotes- there are usually around 50. That tells me that people are staying away from Steemit. I'm afraid it's the issues that are affecting curation and probably will continue to do so. people get frustrated trying to use a platform that just drags ass and doesn't function properly. I noticed that these issues popped up around the same time as the new "improvements" happened- could these things be related? Speaking of improvements... why "improve" a platform? It reminds me of...
Yup- putting lipstick on a pig! Today I noticed that they've improved things again... now I can't comment or upvote. Way to go guys!!! I don't know who's in charge of tech issues but they deserve a big raise... somewhere on the far side of Saturn should be far enough away to keep them from "fixing" things anymore.
Another troubling issue is the price of Steem which seems to have problems staying above a buck. This is happening in spite of the other "older" stable cryptos doing really well- BTC is almost $5900 at this writing. Why isn't Steem enjoying the same success? Cryptos operate on the same basic principles as the stock market. When the value of a stock goes down the money doesn't disappear- it simply goes somewhere else. Could it be that the problems affecting the usability of Steemit causing the price to fluctuate downward? Makes sense to me.
Like everyone else on here I have a vested interest in seeing Steemit succeed and I sincerely hope that whoever's in charge of fixing these issues will do so while there's something left to fix. But, like everything else- this too has a bright side, a hidden benefit. When the spammers and beggars see that there's nothing for them here- they'll go back to Fakebook. I've noticed that since these issues began, my comment feed is no longer full of "follow and upvote me please?" In fact, they seem to have disappeared.
I haven't commented in a while or posted in a long while so this is all news to me but gathering from what I've read could it be that the 'improvements' that are causing the problems experienced are having the intended effect of discouraging the "follow and upvote me please?" people who see the short term goal of profit as their main motive for participating. All part of the growth process of steemit? Just a thought.

That would at least be acceptable... I worry that Steemit is heading down the tubes- and that I don't want to see.

I'm in the same boat, life has completely overwhelmed my goofing-off and nose-picking time. I only encountered the DDoS aftereffects.
If STEEM doesn't insanely inflate, though, what is the real detriment, since we are constantly generating more by our participation, @richq11 ? It doesn't have the same volatility as BTC, but that means also an incentive for composing and creating content, rather than simply trying to play the market.

It's pitiful isn't it?
They fixed it until it was broke...
I guess I'll have to get used to the Busy.org editor....

This is sad... and as far as Busy goes, I'm with you- I don't like it!

yeah, it's been mad frustrating the last couple of weeks giving upvotes or resteeming things. i posted about this earlier this week due to my own frustration at not being able to dole out a little monetary love to other users. i imagine things will return to a more normal state at some point, but we're definitely in a weird state of flux for the moment.

Frustrating with having a hard time commenting and upvoting really takes a toll on earnings somewhat.
These issues really affects all and possibly the price of STEEM @richq11
